Though I was delighted to consider the reasoned sentiments of C.S. Lewis, it is the content which deserves praise, as well as the author of the quote: "Due to the nature of the internet and social media, many of these quotes started out attributed to their proper author/speaker, but were soon falsely attributed to C.S. Lewis and quickly spread throughout the web". (And John Trainer is referenced by the C.S. Lewis Foundation...) I do heartily concur and appreciate your input, Lydia.

I remember growing up with a single mother begging her not to go to work. However that obviously wasn't an option. She started letting me stay home alone when i was 12 years old. I basically raised myself at that point with the internet. I'd say it worked out well for me, but I could also see how being raised by a single mother could cause some damage.

It is true though. When I was the main income in our household we seemed less stressed, We were together more often. We were making the bare minimum, but we were happier, More time together. Now, wife and I work, preschool $ is ridiculous. Healthcare for a middle class family is expensive. No time to see each other. No tax refund, end up owing. Penny pinch on everything. More stress. We were richer when we were poor. Now we're poor in quality of life even though on paper we make more $. It just doesn't make sense. We want our life back.

Now that I think about it, it seems the same for me too. After my parents divorced and now I’m living with my dad while I’m going to Uni it seems we have more money. The place we live now is nicer than anywhere when it was 2 incomes, and somehow I feel like we’re doing better off now that I’m not working, versus when I helped out when I worked in high school.

Rich doesnt always mean having money!
I grew up poor. My mom even more so. She was literally dirt floor poor. I remember her telling me how excited she was to move into their ( my mom and dad) first home that had actual glass windows.
Back to me being poor or thinking i was.
Mom made almost all my clothes, we had to grow our own veggies and can them for the winter.
Fish and shellfish that we caught was our main protein, Any red meat came from my hunting cow pastures with a bb gun (mostly rabbit).
Yes it was a 2 income family. Never once do i feel looking back that the 2 incomes helped us.
Mom worked nights as a lvn and my dad was gone at least half the year on construction jobs.
I FELT poor! Looking back the only poor part was that my mom and dad was seldom in my life, But i will say the times we were my parents made sure they were awesome.
Every year we took road trips, camped at free parks at lakes and sleeped in this old boat that severed as boat a fishing platform and a camper.
Looking back...I was RICH and didnt know it.
I had a mom that cared enough to to sew good clothes for me for school, She even took the time to find patterns of clothes that were popular at the time.
I ate like a king! Wild game and fresh seafood everyday! I wish i could eat so well today, fresh trout (sea trout), redfish, shrimp, clams and blue crab.
What a fool i was as a kid. All i wanted was to have real hamber meat like my friends.
Judge not your wealth by the dollars in your pocket!

They tell us we need to stop breeding, make it impossible to afford more than 3 kids with two parents working and then say we need more immigration and bring in third world families that have 12 kids per couple. People need to wake up, if Europe took away all its non-white population in the last 40yrs we’d be dying out by now, but that’s what the government wants.

Much of the population today have their heads down and faces in their phones, only pay attention when there's something to record and many have very limited social skills outside of the internet and those online are terrible. Basically, times have changed and much of it hasn't been for the better.

Slam dunk. I agree with what she wrote. I married 8 years ago at 31. Always set myself up to be financially able to have my wife stay home with the kids while I work. It was hard to find a woman that was ok with that. Now we are single income, raising 3 kids and they are all going to a private school. There are many things (material) in life that I want or could have but I choose not. I couldn't imagine living in that rat race of a dual income family chasing the next big item on sale. It isn't the dual income that causes people to go broke as Warren said. It's the lack of financial understanding and self discipline.

OGASI the modern economy is set up to force more people to work longer for less money so that the rich can get wealthier.
      It's wage slavery.
When Congress raises no imum wage, it has the Fed crank up the promoting presses until the currency is inflated to the point that the worker's new income buys less than before the wage hike because of the resulting inflation. Not only that, but it devalues the purchasing power in every savings account.

I agree somewhat with Ms Warren.
In South Africa everything is now forcefully split 50/50 between the genders. Seats in Parliament, Directors in Business, in Universities, in Professions and in Jobs. More women in the work place and more unemployed men in the streets. This is not a healthy scenario. At least not until they can split pregnancies 50/50.

    • @STARDRIVE
      @STARDRIVE 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The high paid jobs are forced 50/50, but not hard labor. I´ve never seen a feminist advocate for 50/50 in welding or paving.. We have the same problem in the Netherlands, where men start their own business twice as often. Putting the actual ratio for management somewhat around 66% men and 33% women..
The biggest mistake when it comes to sexism & racism, is that when you decide to split people into groups (identity politics), it is inevitable other properties migrate as well.
And unless the left can pinpoint why, they simply assume it´s because of bigotry from the other group, thus trying to manipulate the situation. This results in people leading lives they aren´t taylored for.
If you ask me, the medicine (identity politics) is worse than the illness...

We were never able to afford a house in the Bay Area we kept saving but the down payment and the monthly payments just seemed to Skyrocket over a 25-years that we lived there. Once the kids are grown and out of the house we had to move to Northern California in order to buy a house. The average house price he's just a little more than what a 20% down payment was in the Bay Area.
Now only I work and we own a home for the first time in our lives. But we're not in much of a position to retire or have security we can no longer work. Social Security even with our mortgage as low as it is would only just cover it.

So, you voted for a socialist that would have doubled foreign aid to the nation responsible for USS Liberty?

Oh my gosh! If she was still sharing this message with honesty and passion I would vote for her! She is dead on in her assessment.

I read her book several years ago and can ditto Tucker's take on it. The problems Senator Warren highlights are even more acute in Coastal America. Take Cupertino for example. Compare the 1970 census and 2010 census of the city. You can see a whole sale change in demographics in both terms of race and class. A number of the recent ethnic Chinese mayors of Cupertino have railed against Apple's failure to pay a fair share of local taxes in order to support the community to the degree local government sees fit. And home prices are driven higher and higher as many native born and foreign born home buyers seek to buy into the local highly rated public schools. You will be hard pressed to find a school teacher, fireman, cop, waitress, cook, bus driver or any other kind of blue collar working raising a family there in a single family home. Yet, within living memory there were factory jobs to be had for the likes of HP and Apple that afforded lives within the communities those tech titans were founded in.

Ruling class dems in CA hate the middle class. They have been working to drive them out for decades. They only want the wealthy/donor/ruling class and The Help. But they want the help living in government controlled high rise tenements and riding the buses. Nothing upsets them more than being stuck in traffic behind the help, waiting in a doctors office with the help, or even seeing the help at the places they go shopping.
The middle class, to the ruling dems, is neither poor enough to be bought, nor rich enough to be a donor. They don;t like what they can't control .

Well I can tell you one inequality in this country.
We have families that have two incomes and they barely make it by but they make it.
Then, we have single parents who are awarded for not working at the cost of those two family incomes. Then there is the polar to that side. The single individuals with no families who bare the entire cost of a home and life and then in turn pay the cost for the single parent to not work. The cost of living decreases as the household size increases. One parent and one child does not cost as much as two single individuals. The first room in a house comes with a kitchen, living room, bathroom, etc. The second meal you make is free because you cooked instead of eating a prepared meal for one. Yet the single people in America pay the cost for parents who don't work. Trust me, welfare is necessary and relief is necessary but if there's no reward for being off welfare and no punishment for being on it.. then the reward goes to those on it and the punishment to those paying for it.
Multiple income households are the only households in this country that are doing just fine as a majority. I don't even know what she is talking about.
The law is the real problem. It is a problem that families have to have more than one income to make it. But that is economic in job pay, unemployment, etc. The real problem is that single individuals can't afford to live at all and they are paying for other people to live. Stop giving out welfare when we give out free housing. Why do you need to give 4/5 of a person's income in tax returns for not working and having children? They make 10,000 a year, 30,000 in welfare, and then get 8,000 in taxes back!!! They work for 10,000 and get nearly 50,000 a year which is as much as some two income families. I completely understand when children are under school age but at the point we pay for their education, their daycare, and their daily needs in school...and people don't work.. STOP giving them all of the other people's money. And if she really wanted to defend the people with two incomes that would be it. Why are your children in school while you sit at home doing only God knows what making 50,000 a year?!??

Living in an area with a large Jewish community, and I can see how strong their sense of family and community is. They will most likely inherit the earth.
