Chocolate is made in a similar manner in Jamaica...it is beaten in a mortar . Some people add pimento (allspice), nutmeg and cinnamon to it while it is being beaten. It is placed on a piece of banana leaf and shaped. To prepare the drink it is then grated and boiled in hot water and coconut milk and sweetened to taste. Add pinch of salt and strain....delicious

I learned recently that jojoba is a desert native plant, native to Arizona and Nevada. It's used widely in skin and haircare products. Maybe you can make a primitive hair and skin oil.
I know a place in the desert where a lot of jojoba grows. The nuts ripen in the summer and taste quite good, although they are more prized for the oil. However, I have not practiced extracting the oil yet. That would be a good experiment.
I can tell your hands have been through a lot by the way they tolerate that heat! Great video. Just so happens making homemade chocolate has been on my mind these past few weeks.
My hands and feet have become quite resistant. That's the advantage of not wearing shoes and gloves. People criticize me for it but it makes your skin tougher.
@Chad Zuber It really does make your skin tougher. As a kid I lived in the country and mostly never wore shoes, gloves or any of that sort, my skin was tough. Now, not anymore since I live in the city, and wear shoes, etc.
Hi Chad, very cool, time consuming, but, cool. ;-) When you dropped the chocolate balls in the dish the sound was like pottery hitting pottery. Dense and heavy? A mold! So ingenious. Enjoyed, tc till next time.
Hey bro, firstly, I hope you've been keeping warm. It looks absolutely frdgid in the desert. Secondly, this is another cool video, I've never had the chance (yet) to eat raw cocoa beans, though I do have raw cocoa powder in my pantry, and it does taste as bitter as i'm assuming the beans are. Glad to see things are progressing at the hut.
Yeah, it's winter but I'm accustomed to winter here. Raw cocoa powder from a store will definitely be a little different than what I make on a rock but it's still just as bitter.

Chad you are the most underrated primitive survival TH-camr, it’s a shame that other people that fake their primitive survival skills overtake your channel.
That's the world we live in. Whether it be movies, television shows, the news, politics, advertising, everything is deception, lies, exaggerations of the truth due to the nature of human response. People respond to bizarre, crazy, sexy images so that's what is made and delivered. Real life is too boring and people fantasize about a reality that does not exist but is presented through social media and all other visual media. Unfortunately I have not been able to compete with that and am trying to find a way to continue making videos. Please forgive me for not uploading much lately, I just haven't had the time.
At 8:10 of the video you threw cocoa shells into the fire-I think unnecessarily. In my region in the post-WWII era (I live in Poland) Cocoa shell was used as a substitute for tea. The husk is brought to a boil, boiled for about 10min then strained, added some sugar and added milk: such shell can still be bought, so sometimes I do it myself, in my opinion it is even better in taste than cocoa. I do not know how in your circumstances with access to sugar and milk, the brew itself could be too bitter, but it is worth thinking about using the husk.
Firstly thank you for pumping out the videos we all enjoy. Secondly as a side comment ive recently got into gardening at the worst time(winter😂) and wonder if you were open to planting crops for yourself. Im in SoCal and assuming you have similar climate. By far had most success with potatoes, pumpkin, and dragonfruit. Either way keep up the great content, always look foward to a new video!
Good luck with your gardening. In SoCal there are a lot of crops that grow well in the winter, especially greens like lettuce, spinach, cilantro, onions, etc. The climate at my hut is not good for many crops. The nights are freezing in the winter so that eliminates most crops. The summers start out super hot and dry making it very difficult to even start a crop and then it becomes humid and rains a lot. If I can get a crop to survive the months of April, May, and June then I have a good chance at a successful crop. I tried last year and almost had success with the squash but everything else died quick.

It amazes me how much time and effort goes into making even the simplest foods to store up supplies for the next few weeks. Even the tools used take time and effort. It is doubly difficult for yourself as you have no partner or group to help with the work. There are many suggestions in the comments but I wonder if they understand the amount of time and work that needs to be invested to do even the simplest tasks. I live off grid totally we generate our own power and have to source water as we have no well and waste to deal with. Even the simplest thing like turning on a tap involves thinking about the water you have and the amount of electric for the pump and heating the water. I learned a lot from 14 years off grid and it was hard at first made many mistakes but got better at it. Thanks for your time and work on the video. Take care and see you next time.
@@TimmyVision Forgive me if I ramble a bit. The main one was electric power . I had some panels from a distributor that looked good on paper but they used a different material type I forget what but they did not work very well at all. Several reasons the best one for use was silicon crystal type they are blue in colour. But we had a different one they were black looking these work well in cloudy type weather. The other thing is the heat they didn't seem to do well in the summer in Spain. So a lot of money mostly wasted. We have the correct type now. The batteries were flooded cell type but we had 6volt in one battery as they three cells per battery. This meant we had a fault on battery which means we could not charge the others. As the voltage was to low. We now have single cell batteries which we are able to charge in one cell dies and it's way cheaper to replace on cell batteries than the three cell type. We are moving to LiPho batteries in the future. We had a large generator that did very well as a backup system but due battery problems caused far more on time than it could handle! We now have a much smaller one which works well on the intermittent use. We did have wind turbine but the wind doesn't always blow anywhere near what's needed to produce electricity and when we get wind here it can reach hurricane force which caused problem with the turbine could handle the wind. Water was another resource we had to change how thought about it . We put a bucket under the shower to collect the cold water before it warms up. The same with all water used bowls under taps if you need hot water . We use the saved water for dogs or plants or washing solar panels down they get dusty. We also don't flush the toilet for pee and the washing machine only goes on on sunny days. Even the smallest leak on water causes the pump to come on multiple times and that uses about eight hundred watts of electric. There are many other things I can't recall but it's a little bit here and there. It's been a journey! And it's only when resources are not there you realize how much we take for granted. I think it would be good if kids could be taught on this kind of thing then maybe we wouldn't be so waste full.
No, very few people have any idea how much time and effort goes into basic primitive tasks. Even I underestimate the time I think it will take to do something. Usually it takes me two to three times longer than I anticipate.
I'm super happy about this episode food is not only there to keep us alive and healthy but in almost every culture we make celebratory food for sharing and bringing a community together. So should you get any company you'll have reason to celebrate and drink to celebrate
Food is life but as a culture develops technologically food becomes easier to acquire and control thus allowing more time and energy for art and culture.
@@ChadZuberAdventures I'm going to share my grans secret with you lol (and anyone else that reads this 😅 sorry Granny) my gran used to put dehydrated horehound in fruit leather. She made it with a bit of honey. It was to keep us from being sick and keep our souls warm.
thank you for everything man, we learned so many things from you and not only that but you also gave us a rough example of how life used to be ... I cant go and do the same thing you do, even tho it's my dream to spend a month in a woods or in any place where I can be with the world alone. I still have a lot to learn before I do the "same" but I hope i will learn more from you.
I LOVE your vids. I always find myself making mental notes of things you do so I can practice when primitive camping with others who enjoy bushcraft. I noticed you like using the long oval rock on the flat surface, might I entice you to the idea of a mortar and pestle? I promise you it makes turning things into powders very satisfying and keeps all of the material in a safe bowl too! Stay warm and I wish you the best!! 💪❤👍
Yes, a mortar and pestle is great for making flour and powder but as you can see in this video cocoa powder is not the goal. I have a mortar and pestle here too but I use this method as shown in the video because I'm making cocoa paste. It can be done in a mortar and pestle but it's more difficult.
@@ChadZuberAdventures Interesting. I never knew that. I figured the cold grind you introduced might help create fine little chunklets you could then turn into the cocoa paste. I now see why you're the expert and why I've still got much to learn! Thank you for your insight and the videos you post! 😁
I wanna live this life, like for real! No human interaction, only living in the wild and minding my own business! Even if I die in the process I can be one with Nature in this way!
Have you considered building an adobe woodshed? One with gaps between the long bricks, glued together with mud only where they cross over by a few inches so that air can pass through from all side, forming a sort of gingham checkerboard look, and then roofed in bark of course. Even though there will be wind openings, the bricks as well as roof will help keep the rain off the wood even if the prevailing winds blow the drops at an angle (presuming the access opening is on the leeward side).
Top notch work throughout, from the foundational levels to the refinements they have made possible for our host and his viewers who stand in awe and wonder in amazement.

I know Chad dislike sweet, but less sugar chocolate is very healthy than sweety chocolate. Dark chocolate is rich in disease fighting antioxidants. Studies show it can help reduce blood pressure and lower the risk of heart disease. Studies show that dark chocolate when it is not loaded with sugar and saturated fat is indeed a heart-healthy chocolate treat and more. ❤

@@ChadZuberAdventures 'It takes a village' is true.
You have my utmost respect Chad, I so much enjoy your video's. Just amazing, keep up the excellent work. Thank you!
Thanks, I appreciate that so much.
What's better than ASMR ? A primitive ASMR, keep it up Chad!
I’m glad you like it
I'm super happy about this episode food is not only there to keep us alive and healthy but in almost every culture we make celebratory food for sharing and bringing a community together.
@@jenreal360 Oh nice, the original cough drops of the previous century. I read about those.
These videos are fabulous and very interesting Sir keep them coming please ...best wishes from Falkirk Scotland.
thank you for everything man, we learned so many things from you and not only that but you also gave us a rough example of how life used to be ... I cant go and do the same thing you do, even tho it's my dream to spend a month in a woods or in any place where I can be with the world alone. I still have a lot to learn before I do the "same" but I hope i will learn more from you.
Thank you. I will continue to share what I’ve learned.
Good to see you back at the old homestead. Chocolate 😋 yummy
It's always so good to be here.
I wanna live this life, like for real! No human interaction, only living in the wild and minding my own business! Even if I die in the process I can be one with Nature in this way!
You can do it, learn the basics now then find some land
Have you considered building an adobe woodshed? One with gaps between the long bricks, glued together with mud only where they cross over by a few inches so that air can pass through from all side, forming a sort of gingham checkerboard look, and then roofed in bark of course. Even though there will be wind openings, the bricks as well as roof will help keep the rain off the wood even if the prevailing winds blow the drops at an angle (presuming the access opening is on the leeward side).
Yes, definitely. I just haven't had the time but I'm going to be making some changes in my work and dedicate more time to projects out here.
HE likes some stones as well wiht that chocolate!!
Certainly relaxing to watch your video. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Chad Zube 😀👍
Hi Chad, great video, very informative and interesting. Loved the chocolate bar and kiss.
Thank you!
Top notch work throughout, from the foundational levels to the refinements they have made possible for our host and his viewers who stand in awe and wonder in amazement.
Thanks a lot for the love.
Yumm! Those are some special treats😊
Love chocolate❤
Mayan chocolate? Never heard of this. Sounds delightful🍫
It's just an early form of chocolate.
My hut was also turned into a chocolate factory this evening. Thanks Taco Bell.
Hahahahahaha!
As a cacao farmer it was funny to watch you process the cacao in winter weather. Here is tropical all year. Cheers for the video and information.
Where do you farm cacao?
Yeah, I needed the best of the fire to make chocolate.

awesome. No comparison, but I made acorn meal and acorn flour. Very laborious as well. Thank you for posting
Yes, almost everything primitive is a lot of work.
This ain't Hershey!!!
It belongs to Chad!!!!😇😃
Your hands speak. Your perseverance is on another level. God bless and keep going .
Sometimes I think perseverance is just stupidity and stubbornness.
hi man, what you did is similar to a very common candy here in Brazil. Called "brigadeiro" And it is made of cocoa and condensed milk. You are nice!!!
Mmmm, that sounds really good. I will make that. Thanks for sharing.
Entendi
This was one of the most interesting videos I have ever seen on the internet. Thanks for sharing!
I’m glad you liked it. 👍
It’s crazy how younger than 50 you look, like before seeing your 50th birthday celebration video I would have said that you were something like 35-42 years old
Nature is good to the body
I’m newly subbed. There is such beauty and purity in your chosen life 😊💛
Welcome to the adventure! 💪
i would love to do this sort of thing, crazy inspiring! keep it up
You just need a couple of good stones and whole cocoa beans.
Beautiful. Great job!
Ooo looks fun.
I've been busy surfing back on the sunshine coast australia at point cartwright with the turtles and dolphins.

First time follow your TH-cam channel dude
Beutiful amazing place and view dude.🤠

Hola Chad! Use a pottery or anything else hollow for bees to collect honey for you and instead of sugar use honey and cocoa... You will find amazing this combination and since you will use both raw and clean materials this will act as the perfect chocolate and ingredience for your body...
No bees around at this time of year. They will return in the spring.
@@ChadZuberAdventures Yeap, forgot about it but keep it for the time when you see some or you can catch some from other place and put them at your area, havent search much about it but that should do!

Man.. This makes me want to taste a piece of your hand-made primitive chocolate. hahaha! I don't like too sweet of a chocolate, either! So I bet your amount of sweets is just right for me! XD
Great video, as always!!
Maybe I will sell some.
Thank you very much. So awesome to see this process. Wish I could be there doing similar life skills and learning along the way gaining tons of experience with a great teacher.
There is nothing like actually doing these things. I learn so much every time. Even when you've learned how to do something, you keep learning to do it better.
Yeah, I wish to go and live around the Sonoran desert sometime and learn some skills like my grandfather did.

Muchas gracias Juan.
This channel helps me to be a better person.
I've also heard cocoa and peppers are a yummy combination in meat dishes.
I haven't experimented with that yet. Thanks for sharing.
Enjoyed watching the process!
I really have an urge to sit in front of my wood stove and do something...maybe pound some sinew, or scrape my deer hide, maybe make TP from newspaper...but this whole working for the man thing really gets in the way of my primitive aspirations.
I totally understand you. I have recently had to start working for the man too so I can provide for my family. (They aren't into the primitive free life).
That was awesome primitive style chocolate making i seen
Very few people can do the work you do sir because today's model people are tied to luxurious life. No one wants to understand nature but you understand nature ❤️✨
Anyone can do this but most are afraid of discomfort and the unknown.

No sé. Hay que explorar posibilidades.
