AKMU has done a lot different genres because the brother works on a lot of their music and likes to experiment. I think more than just ballads or emotional songs, they're known for really well-written lyrics that often have an underlying message, e.g. their song Melted is a commentary on loss of childhood innocence & how adults can be cruel/cold.
AKMU's my favourite group. Their songs are not as "dope" or "hype" as other k-pop sound, but I keep going back to their songs and I think it's because the older brother writes his own music (both composing and writing lyrics) and he has his own instrumentation style with lots of acoustic sound. If you know Korean, the lyrics are very poetic as well.
They seem like a special group with meaningful lyrics to go along with their incredible voices. It’s such a nice switch up to listen to and react to them! 💪🏾💅

They can dance though especially Chanhyuk, he’s got good dance skills. But in terms of their music..they’re versatile and they have mid-tempo/upbeat bright songs as well.

They do have a dance song but not like dance dance...check out How people move, Re-bye, Dinosaur, 200%, Melted, Time and fallen leaves....
