Dawn, you never cease to surprise me in the loveliest of ways. This was absolutely intriguing. You have an incredible mind, always willing to learn. Thank you for this wonderful interview with Dr Shojai.
Dawn, this was just what I needed to hear! It's so fitting for my life right now. Thank you! As always, great info! ❤🙏 For those who didn't appreciate this podcast...I'm a Christian and I love the Lord Jesus Christ. This podcast doesn't make me want to go change my religion... Yes, we need to read our Bible, but we also need to realize that we live in a world that God created with a variety of other people that God created. God created each one of us to be different from the other. We can learn something every day if we open our hearts to everyone, it dosen't mean we have to change who we are. When Jesus fed 5000 people did he consider their religion prior to making sure they had food? Dawn is sharing the love of Jesus and she loves everyone. I'm grateful for her. I know that God is happy with her because she has been a tremendous blessing to so many. I pray God blesses all of us and helps us to grow in love.
This was really good! Interestingly, I'm reading through a lot of the comments where people thought of this as anti Christian or domething, and i see so many similarities between Jesus' efforts to encourage people to share their wealth with the poor and the advice of this monk.
Thank you Dawn for this incredible perspective! We exchange our energy time and heartbeats for the things we purchase and the things we spend our money on. Including the self help and products pushed by companies. It truly gives a new perspective on returning to our selves and doing the work to live with intention and be aware of our purchases!
The idea of repenting our past bad purchasing or acquiring habits was powerful for me. In BSF we have been talking about how to repent is to not only turn away from it, but to walk the other direction and put some space between you and your past choices. The visual is helpful for me.
Hello, @didid.6667, please consider this regarding being narrow-minded: Beginning in Matthew 7:13, Jesus tells us that there are two gates, or two paths that we can follow as we live our lives. “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14, NASB). In this passage, which is part of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, Jesus is speaking to a large crowd about how the Jewish religious leaders were leading them astray. These leaders and many of the Jewish people were more interested in appearing outwardly to be religious by practicing rituals that others could see. They were using the wide gate, which signifies a dependence on ourselves and obtaining our own self-righteousness and salvation through trying to do things outwardly to impress others, rather than total dependence upon God, and recognizing that everything good is a gift from Him. These Jewish religious leaders and their followers totally missed that Jesus was the Messiah who was written about in the Old Testament. They didn’t recognize that they needed a savior, as they thought they were righteous enough by doing outward things. The wide gate represents our culture today, characterized by being self-dependent, self-absorbed (me, me, me) and wanting to appear outwardly better than everyone else. This is driven by social media. With the exception of true Christianity, it also is what comprises every one of the world’s religions, that teach that if you are just good enough, and do certain things, and practice certain rituals and sacraments, you just might earn your way and make it to be with God for eternity. The narrow gate that Jesus was referring to is a personal relationship with God, not doing a bunch of religious rituals and sacraments to try and earn your way to heaven. It is accepting the free gift of your salvation by realizing you are a hopeless sinner who can’t get right with God on your own, and can only get right with God by placing your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. It means not wasting any more time and energy trying to appear outwardly in a way to be accepted by the culture, but rather asking the Holy Spirit to live in you, to change your heart, and transform you into the person God made you to be. God sees the inward appearance of our heart, not our outward appearance to others. Which gate are you trying to pass through, the narrow gate of a deep personal relationship with Jesus as your Lord and Savior, or the wide gate of acceptance by today’s culture (which Jesus told us leads to destruction)? This is copied from a message by Larry O'Donnell. Thanks for reading, and may God bless you.
Loved this interview Dawn. To me it was about getting down to what is important. It is about spirituality and simplicity, not about a specific religion. So much wrong has been done in the name of this or that religion. But, I believe we are all spiritual beings. ☮️
WOW, what an unexpected and informative interview! Dawn, your commitment to finding ways to give us hope and inspiration is just amazing. At the start of this podcast, I thought there wasn't going to be much here for me, but I trust you and listened to the very end and I'm so glad I did. Thank you for everything you do for us! Great content!
I was the "jerk" single mom, trying to juggle homeschooling and my kids; extracurricular activities. Today as adults, they both hate me and blame me for all of their woes. So be it. If I had to do it all over again, I would not have nearly killed myself with the extra stuff.
So sorry this happened after all you did. Would love to know more if you want to say. I'm trying not to do so much for the grandkids I'm raising for that very reason, but their needs are *extensive*
This was such a good conversation. And I mostly agree with what he was saying. I’m struggling with how he handles technology with his kids though. Obviously every family is different and needs to find what works for them. But I’ve been working in middle and high schools counseling kids for quite a few years now. What I have found is that the kids who don’t have technology are often left out. Even if they aren’t being bullied and have friends, kids will have conversations in the evenings with inside jokes (or drama unfortunately) that they then have to piece together the next school day in order to even be a part of the conversation. Even worse is when kids decide to spontaneously hang out on the weekend but can’t invite them because they have no way of communicating with them. And the same happens in the summer, so they end up pretty isolated, which is horrible for anyone’s mental health. Im not saying kids should have complete freedom using tech, but a bit in moderation can be good for them. Not only does it keep them connected socially, but also teaches them how to navigate the social nuances of the online world which they will have to do as adults. Lastly…. It has been scientifically proven that playing “violent” video games has absolutely no correlation to a person’s aggression in real life. The complete opposite is more often the case. And Fortnite is another way kids socialize now. It kind of felt like he values them making money (which I understand the eventual importance of knowing how to navigate that) than socializing and actually being a kid. They will have plenty of time to make money later. So just let them be kids while they still can. Again, before people come at me for these opinions, I am not trying to convince anyone to see things my way or tell anyone they are raising their kids wrong. I just simply wanted to toss out a slightly different perspective to hopefully make people think about all sides before making any decision that could positively or negatively affect their kids for the rest of their lives. But I do acknowledge that everything needs to be done in moderation and that it depends on the family and individual situations.
My husband has played violent video games since I have known him and he's the most calm person on the planet lol😂 I do joke with him about if I disappear I hope my friends look at him first hahaha
The Bible mentions meditation a fair bit! I think we lost a grip of that as Christians. I have been practicing that basic breathing technique mentioned by your guest (to manage a health issue), but found it is actually super helpful before reading my Bible, as it helps me clear out the constant babble in my brain for a while! Thanks for your continued work Dawn!❤
Christian meditation still exists in Eastern Christianity (the Orthodox Church), it is called the Jesus prayer and is practiced by Christian monks (and laypeople although to a lesser degree) 🙏📿
Dawn, this was an awesome interview! I am a Christian, and I loved all of this discussion. I also am completing a course on to be a certified Forest Therapy Guide, and we have been learning how good nature is for our physical and mental well-being. Thanks again for sharing this.
I enjoyed the interview! I wish I had known what I know now when my son was growing up. Maybe I would have been able to resist all the electronic traps we fell into! I love all your thoughtful content, Dawn! You have truly changed my life with your minimalist approach. I’m very thankful for your help! All the best from your neighbor in Iowa! ❤
I’ve always said, if you want to know how my life is going, look at my car or look at my house. Who knew a monk would say the same? (Essentially)🤣 I really enjoyed this interview. I sent it to my husband as well :) thank you!
I’d love for you to do a conversation with Anxious Generation author about tech and children. And this conversation was SO good. Great principles for life!
I loved this video Dawn. Thank you so much. I liked that you taught me to say "can I live w/o this and I like that this guy says "is it a need or a want . Also, I like when he says to try and keep vitality up first.
Dawn I love you so much and your content. The only thing here that I have an issue with is the constant clicking like a computer mouse in the background. And once I hear it I can’t ignore it and it is distracting from the message 🤦🏻♀️
Drives me crazy that this is like an “important”thing, about priorities, and she’s clearly distracted, nodding along and clicking all the way through it. Are you deleting emails, Dawn? Edit: Sighing 100 clicks and 12 minutes in, because of the irony. Wondering if you click through the whole 45 minutes? Should I stop here? Dawn, I love you and I think you’re a very sweet person. I know that negative feedback hurts you to your very soul, but sometimes your (unacknowledged, undiagnosed) adhd makes you come across as insincere, and your roots in marketing trigger that tiny little question mark in me, “can I trust her?”
Love the minimalism and decluttering stuff on regular channel, but I’ve unsubscribed from this podcast as it doesn’t reflect my interests which are Christian. Praying for Dawn that minimalism doesn’t become a religion. Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life. There is no other way to God but by me. “ Dawn and others, please be careful of wolves in sheep’s clothing. And be careful not to cause anyone else to stumble. Dawn, you have a huge platform- please pray that you use it only for good, which means that it must bring glory to the one true God and not lead weaker souls to follow false religion.
I watched 1/3 through and wanted to learn because Dawn is precious to learn from … then I felt a caution from the Holy Spirit to not take advice from someone who doesn’t acknowledge God as Creator & Savior. Putting Him first and asking Him … can direct our path to a simpler God focused life. Matt. 6:33.
I'm all for having conversations with people who don't share our beliefs while standing firm in our own. But it felt like Dawn wasn't standing firm? And this guy was over indexing so hard on inclusivity of all faiths that it really watered down the message to the point that it wasn't satiating. I had to turn it off. I couldn't catch the minimalism message in the midst of it all.
Very, very disappointed in this video. Regardless of all the applause for being "diverse" and "Inclusive", I feel so sad that I have directed so many friends to listen to Dawn as someone who is a Christian, and here is a person whose anti-Christian religion is being held up as something to follow. Yes, I know there is some truth in every religion, there are some good people and good ideas in every religion, because we are all made in the image of God, but as Christians we need to understand, Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man comes to the Father but by Me." No, it is not true that all roads lead to God. Someone commented, asking "when Jesus fed the 5,000 did He first check to see what their religion was before giving them food?" Of course that answer is no, but of course that is a red herring and is not the thing that is being done here--- yes, 100%, we are to be kind to all and share with them the truth and the love of the one true God, not invite other people who worship false "gods" to come in as equals and teach as though their religious teachings are on an equal plane with Jesus' teachings. Someone else commented that they are a Christian and this podcast doesn't want them to go change their religion... that's good, but it does put the stamp of approval on the false religion this man espouses, and makes Dawn look like she thinks it's just fine and equal to the Christian faith she espouses. We can and must love everyone regardless of their beliefs or anything else that is different from us, but that doesn't mean we have to act like we agree with their beliefs and lead others into error. I know many will think me closed-minded, and I am, on the subject of whether there are many "gods" or one true God. The Bible is true. I love each person but it is so sad to see a compromise like this which denies the truth of the Bible. I pray that this man's eyes will be opened, that he will see that his works-based religion is not the equal of the grace that God longs to give him. I pray that he will learn the truth that can set him free from all his strivings. I pray he will learn that the only way to heaven is not based on anything he can do, but only by accepting the free gift that, all because of His great love for us, God so graciously gave through the perfect sacrifice of the spotless Lamb, Jesus, the only One who was worthy to lay down His life for us and pay the price for all our sins so we could be declared NOT GUILTY, and then He rose victoriously from the dead to show that nothing has power over Him, and to give us the power to become His children by believing in Him and receiving the gift of eternal life. This free gift is available to anyone who will accept it. Whoever is reading this, I love you and pray you will come to know the amazing love God has for you, too. ❤🙏 ❤🙏
This episode surprised me, Dawn. As a professed Christian, I am surprised that you would have a guest whose beliefs are so anti Jesus Christ! He tries to be “inclusive” but listen to what he’s saying! I got about 17 minutes in and just couldn’t finish. If you want peace and contentment, look to Jesus. Read your Bible!
It surprised me too, but in a good way!! All faiths are paths to God or good morals and knowing yourself better, that generally overlap in their core teachings. Eg be a good person and don't hurt others. I've studied a multitude of different faiths so this is my informed opinion, but obviously you're entitled to your opinion too 😊☮ Yes, I'm guessing most of Dawn's subscribers are Christian, but don't forget the tolerance and acceptance of others that Jesus taught. We all take our own journeys to be the best versions of ourselves that we can, whatever culture/religious background we come from. 💗
@janetgutierrez33 Recently in an episode Dawn said she is deconstructing her faith and this is where it leads...I love Dawn and I tuned in just for a minute but bumped out very quickly. 😢
@@HannahRainbow88 John 6:28-29 28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Acts 4:12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
@janetguterriz33, Dawn is leading by example, as a Christian. She is not thumbing her nose at others or being judgemental & intolerant. Dawn is being a listener to understand other points of view. She & yourself don’t have to agree with any of it, but Dawn is being patient & kind to others.
He who is without sin, cast the first stone. Real life happens and I appreciate Dawn for being so relatable 😊 I know areas of my home often look far worse than that 😅
@@dianasimplifies she has been a member of more than one church/ religion in her life so far….so it is only natural that she would have some sorting to do. Different Christian religions are quite different from one another in their teachings and professed beliefs
Not every conversation has to mention God but it should be centered on truth (truth comes from God). And this was, in fact, mumbo jumbo so I agree with you. Hard to listen to, very little truth, and I couldn't finish.
I’m so grateful to Dawn for being the amazing listener that she is. I always think of Jesus as the ultimate listener-from true listening comes wisdom.
Dawn, you never cease to surprise me in the loveliest of ways. This was absolutely intriguing. You have an incredible mind, always willing to learn. Thank you for this wonderful interview with Dr Shojai.
Dawn, this was just what I needed to hear! It's
so fitting for my life right now.

YES!! THIS RIGHT HERE! 1000% AGREED!
This is such a refreshing comment in the crazy world we live in today. 10000% agree! 😊
Yes yes yes. Thank you.

This was beautiful Dawn, very inspiring 💜
And don’t mind the negativity in some of the comments, some people are just narrow minded.

Thank you for sharing! This is good information to have when making these important decisions regarding tech and our kids.
"I'm a big fan of reality." I love that! I basically said this to my kids just an hour ago when explaining why we were not watching a show today.

Best interview Ever!!! Dawn you are a star ✨⭐✨. I love how all faiths ....have wisdom to teach & inspire us ❤❤❤. Wonderful 🎉
Heartbeats. Wow. Gonna think about that.
Dawn, you are awesome. Wonderful interview! mahalo nui Urban Monk
What a pleasant surprise to see Pedram on your channel! I’ve followed him since The Urban Monk was published.
The comments here are making me sick. No hate like Christian love. I enjoyed the interview very much.
This was wonderful - really liked it!
LOVED THIS CONVERSATION! Thank you for sharing! Keep up the superb work making great content!! 💞from MN
Thank you for how hard you work at getting us content from so many sources.
Wonderful Dawn🎉🎉🎉🎉
Loved this podcast! I appreciate you taking the time to share other perspectives on how to cultivate a purposeful life.
My favorite of all your media.
Really appreciated this episode 💜
This is great! I love the heartbeat reference.
I loved this video Dawn. Thank you so much. I liked that you taught me to say "can I live w/o this and I like that this guy says "is it a need or a want . Also, I like when he says to try and keep vitality up first.
Good for you Dawn. There is more than one way to be spiritual. Love the episode. Thank you ❤️
Dawn, it sounds like someone is clicking a mouse repeatedly in the background (I do have an earpiece in). I just wanted to let you know :)
Great information 😀

I agree. I watched part way and all I could think was "Why?" And decided to ask Dawn. And you've got my thoughts already shared.
Agreed, love Dawn’s content but this didn’t feel right
Agreed! I had the same feelings & had to stop watching. I think that’s the first video of Dawn’s that I couldn’t finish watching.
Interesting thought. I felt everything here was 100% in line with my understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I think he was trying to be inclusive of all beliefs and you absolutely can meditate and be introspective in the name of Jesus Christ your savior.
What is the continuous mouse clicking? I had to turn it off :(

NOPE, praying for you Dawn

Great comment 💯 agree. I'm with you and also "closed minded" I suppose.
I've studied a multitude of different faiths so this is my informed opinion, but obviously you're entitled to your opinion too 😊☮
Yes, I'm guessing most of Dawn's subscribers are Christian, but don't forget the tolerance and acceptance of others that Jesus taught.

@@HannahRainbow88 John 6:28-29
28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
Quite a mess behind Dawn....😅
He who is without sin, cast the first stone. Real life happens and I appreciate Dawn for being so relatable 😊 I know areas of my home often look far worse than that 😅
I think she's at her mom's house where she has been working for weeks.
This podcast and the one with Emily Freeman are very disconcerting.
I loved learning about Emily Freeman
In that podcast she said she's deconstructing her faith and this is where that leads sadly. I was very sad when I heard her say it.
@@dianasimplifies she has been a member of more than one church/ religion in her life so far….so it is only natural that she would have some sorting to do. Different Christian religions are quite different from one another in their teachings and professed beliefs
@@susanconley4842 yes they are but what he's professing isn't Christianity.
Too woo woo for me. Mumbo jumbo that does not mention God.
Not every conversation has to mention God but it should be centered on truth (truth comes from God). And this was, in fact, mumbo jumbo so I agree with you. Hard to listen to, very little truth, and I couldn't finish.
