BRO!!! This looks so AMAZING!!! I'm not an Ohio State fan in the slightest, but that looks incredible and certainly appreciate the craftsmanship! I need one for Texas and one for my alma mater, Austin College. I need these in my kitchen!!
That turned out awesome John! You did a great job on the inlay to! I’ve made several cutting boards and they are time consuming! 😊 Also got the sofa table made from your plans and it turned out really good! Thank you for sharing and enjoy!
Those turned out great! I'm in Nebraska and wish i had the setup to make something like this with the husker N in the middle. Good luck to your buckeyes this year!
Изумительно аккуратная работа! 👏🏻 Мне очень нравятся ваши выдео. И даже если я не решусь повторить то, что вы делаете, наблюдать за процессом очень увлекательно. Успеха в вашей работе! Новых интересных проектов! 👋🏻
Nice work John. If the bandsaw/ planer is a bit squirrely, you could put the unit back on the cnc and run an area clearance toolpath to remove excess material above z=0
Good idea! I should’ve used it for the juice groove too instead of having to make a jig haha for some reason the Cnc is never the first option to come my mind
Incredible! Really enjoy this channel, one of my favorites. Great diversion from your usual builds and turned out great. Too bad the inlay wasn't a leprechaun, or say...an interlocking "ND," then it would have been truly fantastic. Go Irish!
Looks great! I did 3 cheeseboards for Xmas using a variety of hardwood to get an ombré effect and cut into end grain in “Alpine” pattern inspired by Michael Alm. It was so much stress and work but it got me through my fear of the table saw, it was a lot of straight and 45° cuts but worth it
Thank you, I love the ombré or gradient look plus I wanted to make it somewhat original since this is Michaels pattern, not mine. So I started with a purple piece of poplar only because I don’t have access to Purple Heart and it was the darkest shade I could find locally. That was only one layer and toward the bottom since poplar isn’t the best for cutting boards but I figured the end wouldn’t be a big deal, funny enough with oil the purple turned into this marbled dark green which was unexpected but it’s really neat looking. Then mahogany, alder, hickory (my favorite wood now) and lastly or at the top was maple. Hickory has a cool end grain appearance with its striations or grain patterns naturally. You could easily batch something like that out with your set up, the longest time is spent on glue ups for the alpine pattern but so worth it. Love your cutting board and the logo detail is really stunning
Stunning.. personally i'm over the mineral oil on my boards.. I much prefer 2 very light coats of tung.. it takes a crazy long time to cure, but better protection in my opinion
Great wood choices, one mistake, it doesnt say GO BLUE. On a serious note, for your first one, it came out good. Now I have to start thinking of my Wolverines board.
Beautiful job! Hard to believe it was your first cutting board! The inlay turned out great! Nice work! Any advice for inlay art for guys who dont have a cnc?
Great looking boards John. Also, a question on your tools. I'm looking to upsize to a larger jointer and planer and since you've had yours now for some time would you go with those again or consider a different brand.
Yeah, i'm guessing you'll get three requests for similar boards during your next bbq if you don't already have them in your email now. When the older relatives start dry begging, it's all over. You'll need that jig :). By the way, I've made dozens of cutting boards, but am going to be ordering the cnc next week and hadn't thought about using it in this way. Excellent video. Thx for all your hard work!
VERY NICE! Gotta ask tho, why didnt you use the CNC to do the juice groove on the other cutting board, and shave the inlays off instead of using the band saw? GO BUCKS!!!
I mean, I’m no fan Ohio State, but that is a damn fine cutting board. First time, you say? Sure doesn’t look like it. Any chance I could commission a University of Georgia board from you?
@@stevehignett5701 the edge of the board is faced up. End grain does make for a better cutting board technically, just more work, and not always ideal depending on the design. Like in this case on the big cutting board, as well as the osu board. The end grain of the bloodwood is basically black, so this was the best way to get the desired look and color I wanted.
Great job!! That is not a plain Jane cutting board you took it to another level
Thanks for watching!!
GO BIG OR GO HOME!! That’s what I call going ALL IN! They both turned out great! The inlay is really impressive!
Thanks man!
Go Big Orange! Go Vols!!
Rocky top
You'll always be
Home sweet Home to me
All I have to say about this is……..O-H!!!!! And very nice cutting board too!
Really nice, John. Turned out great. Go Bucks!
Thank you!!
Nice work, the OSU board in particular looks amazing! Go Bucks!

Awesome boards! Made many myself but inlays like you did. Turned out great! Also didn't realize you lived in Indiana acutally live close to you.
Beautiful cutting board!
Thank you!
Loved the video!
Thank you!!
Great job for a first time on both cutting boards and inlays. - Chris
Thanks Chris!
Those turned out great! I'm in Nebraska and wish i had the setup to make something like this with the husker N in the middle. Good luck to your buckeyes this year!

Awesome 👊🏻
Good job. If you ever do it again I use my CNC to flatten mine
Great idea!
🙌🏼🙌🏼
Nice one

@@JohnBuildsIt Lots of us appreciate that. lol
GO BLUE!!!
cool! nice build~🎉
Thanks!!
Go Blue!!!
Great job, that looks incredible! Especially for your first cutting board. I only noticed one mistake….you spelled IOWA wrong😊. Go Hawks!!
Haha thank you!!

Haha thanks for watching!!
I would have given John a thumbs down if he did that. lol
Looks fantastic! I'm an Illinois fan, so you'll not catch me talking too much smack lol
Haha smart man!

Awesome Board! OSU is the best! QB situation is a bit nerve wracking so far this year.
Just gotta pick one and roll with it
Stunning.. personally i'm over the mineral oil on my boards.. I much prefer 2 very light coats of tung.. it takes a crazy long time to cure, but better protection in my opinion
I’ll have to try that out
Go Bucks!
That Ohio State board looks great! I'll take one with a juice groove
Thank you! 🙌🏼
Go Texas Awesome idea
Thanks for watching!

There are all sorts of templates you can get to use with regular hand held routers
@@JohnBuildsIt on thank you I'll look for those
Awesome. Go Buckeyes #1
Great looking boards John. Also, a question on your tools. I'm looking to upsize to a larger jointer and planer and since you've had yours now for some time would you go with those again or consider a different brand.
They’ve been awesome, no complaints at all. Bigger would be the only thing I’d change haha but that’s always the case
Wow, that was great (for someone with no real college education)! 😂 Go Boilermakers!
Hahaha dang that’s a good one 😂
And technically my degree is from IPFW (Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne) so I’m kinda with you there lol
Sportsball!
😂😂

Boo OSU from a PSU fan.
Fantastic cutting board. Would love an PSU board!!!!
Lol I’m nervous about that game this year..
@@JohnBuildsIt we can’t have one every few years??? Hahaha
You had me at Ohio St!😂
OH!
IO!
how does that single stage suction system work for you in the garage? I am shopping around for something now....
I’m planning on a bigger unit when I run hard piping. But this delta has been great
Bigger is always better and they know it
Do one for Texas A&M, but put the logo on the bottom.
Thats the smart way to do it for sure, show piece and then just cut on the back
Go Bucks! (Class of ‘90)
🙌🏼🙌🏼
Can you do a Michigan one now?
Know of any blue wood?? Haha
VERY NICE! Gotta ask tho, why didnt you use the CNC to do the juice groove on the other cutting board, and shave the inlays off instead of using the band saw? GO BUCKS!!!
Personally faster for me to just do it this way

Thank you!

nice looking board... but why not your john builds it logo.
That’d be cool!
@@JohnBuildsIt Yup... you could do it on the back side of your ohio board. ;)
Go blue
Did you say that you were going to make them end grain?
Edge
@@JohnBuildsIt oh right. I've not heard of that before. In what way is it edge and how is it better for a cutting board than end grain?

Ya
Hey John, your boards came out great, but I noticed you cut a few too many letters, all you really needed was USC ! Ha!! Just kidding! Nice work!
😂😂😂
I was expecting a fake piece of bacon made out of wood :D
O-H
I’m no fan of Ohio, but that cutting board looks way to nice to cut anything on it.
I grimaced a little using it the first time haha, what it’s for though!
Man I really do feel bad for you… it sucks putting all that work only to ruin it. Lol go blue! … or sparty…. Or really anyone playing Ohio lol
O H
O-H
Looks good but unless you have paid for the licensing agreement, you shouldn't sell one.
Not planning on it..
ugly! Should have gone with Maize and Blue. lol
Sounds like some moldy wood! 😂
For "time wasted" on layouts? I just take a shortcut and call the wife first. She's going to change it anyhow. ;-)
Truth
End grain make better cutting boards. Edge and face grain are for Charcuterie boards. Just saying. Great video.
I agree end grain is better, but edge does the job just fine for me
Go Bucks!
