We are not baffled. We know they are bad at their jobs across the board. They said they view their job as growing the game in the US. The USMNT coach’s job is to WIN a World Cup. That is their only job. Any other answer is wrong. Their process has NEVER selected a World Cup champ.
The US’ best finish ever was 90 years ago when we finished 3rd. In 2026 the Cup is on our soil. Our focus should be to better that achievement and we are hiring a guy who is openly happy to lose in the first game of the knock out stage. Berhalter Out.

I've seen the evolution of football (soccer) in America from their world cup in 1994 to now. The culture has improved, as has the standard. Some decent players at international level, a viable league and some decent coaches. I don't know why they don't fork out big money and try to lure a big name coach from Europe or South America.

    • @Vickzq

If you followed that since 1994... check what a country like Switzerland did in football, literally restarting from scratch with youth programs in 1994, after missing WC for 36 years.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think he’s Pep or anything, but we’re not that great… what coach is signing up for a pretty mediocre team with ridiculous expectations. Pick less talented MLS favorites over better players performing in Europe. #2. Continue with terrible roster selections and inane substitutions. #2. Employ his rigid tactics and formations that hamper offensive flow and creativity. #3. Show his inability to adapt to the opposing teams change in tactics and formations. #4. Won't utilize his BEST players talent by putting them in their best positions. #5. Doesn't get the most out of his players by hindering their ability to use their individual skills to their utmost through either his rigid system, poor tactics, bad formations, inability to access a player's talent level, continue to play his favorites or sheer incompetence.

"Why do we involve the players? That is nonsense." That is the best quote of this entire rant. This should be an HR policy staple. Why do the employees get a say in who is driving the bus? In my opinion, if Reyna's wife would have shut up and not said anything Berhalter would not be the coach right now. He would have been fired on the merits of his performance. But because of a likely defamation of character lawsuit by Berhalter against both US Soccer and the Reyna's, they gave him the job back. It's a CYA hire. He will be replaced before the next World Cup.
