I think Girugamesh is the best Japanese band that was ever out there. The Gazette was good, but Girugamesh was natural awesomeness! The popular stuff isn't actually always the best.

Well composed and nice melodies, including some of their characteristic "breaks" and "heavy passages". However, as a Gaikokujin (foreigner) living in Japan for quite a long time already, I've seen them many times live, and they never cease to amaze me. Actually, they usually play their old stuff.
I know a lot of people have issues with Girugamesh's progression but I think they're going to be one of the few Japanese bands that makes it. Music evolves, and artists have to keep evolving or run the risk of stagnation and eventually falling out of popularity. There are very few genres that give an artist the luxury of stagnation; and while I do love their older stuff their new albums are good in a different way. Support them. Nothing kills an artist faster than "I liked them better when"
Hey Girugamesh.Its nice to see your jumping on the mainstream metal scene while letting your guitarist take the so called "DJENT" into your sound. I loved you when you popped out of your basement with your first album, while sounding like Korn and LP, when the trend had died, without immitating anything. Sadly, I dont think you can hide the imminent intentions of keeping this as a carrer while bringing dubstep and djent. Still, hope you still find it enjoyable. Just dont end up like RWJ
I actually don't mind that they changed their style. Everyone does it. I like both sides of them. This one is a little more pop rockish, but it still has emotion in it. While their old stuff was haunting and emotion filled. I have to be in the mood for either, so it doesn't matter to me. I don't think they sound any worse. I must say though that this is the first time I've seen them devoid of makeup except eyeliner. They are very attractive men.
I have not listened to Girugamesh since 2008... randomly found a picture of them in my old high school binder and decided to look them up SO SO SO SO HAPPY THEY ARE STILL AROUND!!! I love them!! and I regret no buying their cds while I was in Japan SO MUCH!! honestly their new stuff is amazing!!! I feel like I grew up and their music did too I probably wouldn't like their old songs as much now... but I am loving these new ones!
I totally agree with your comment. Their progression is completely normal, and they are trying different styles, sounds and ideas. As a composer for my band and guitarist, I also feel the necessity of trying new sounds. In my opinion, they enrich your music knowledge and provide different ways to evolve as a musician and as a band.
I had the chance to see them live. That was their last concert tour and they came to EU and so they did a performance in my country, in Hungary it was great

All the bass drop is there for is to make the guitars and bass have a bit more punch - if you mean by rewriting the guitar rifs, then that would have an effect, yes. But just taking out the bassdrops would just make those heavy rifs sound weaker and less punchy.
it's just sad that this new djenty sound is finally in Girugamesh and then they disband :/ I would've loved to see how much he would've dove into that sound. Maybe even jump to a 7 string. He's already almost tuned like 7 on that sexy Mayones Regius
The other day I went to their debut ONE MAN in Shibya-AX, and they started with "Drain" from their first album. It was AMAZING. They continued the Live show with some old stuff (from "NOW!" and "Music"), as well as Zecchou Bang. But still, they knew how to make us move and dance in the pit. Personally, I am very glad that their are back with some of their usual heavy stuff, but this time, they are mixing this dubstep thing, which personally, I love. And the last song was Evolution :)
Honestly I think this is a lot more alike to their old sound than their past two LPs - so I don't know why people are bitching. The heavy metal guitars are back and from the sound of it - here to stay. Sure they added electronics but my only complaint I've ever had was when they stopped using heavy riffage (which is a huge plus for me personally) but they've brought me back - plus the electronics kind of give the band a crossfaith-ish sound which is also awesome because I love crossfaith. :')

...? I mean the bass drop you hear often in electronic music, like at 0:32--I'm pretty sure there aren't any other instruments even playing at those parts. I guess it does make the proceeding sounds come off a bit stronger, but for me it only works like that the first couple times. After that it gets repetitive and sounds like the producers were just trying to make their music more hip and edgy--in the same way a lot of mainstream uses things from electronic music (usually pretty sloppily)
True, but they cannot betray what their fans liked from them, and that's exactly what happened with girugamesh during Now and Go era. But seems that they have found a balance between their new and old stuff.
