On that first graph isn't the lowest y value 2? So the range would be (2,00) Why would it be minus when it's graphed as a plus?

I see how setting the absolute value to 0 finds yourself the vertex, but what's the logic behind it?

I still didn't take this yet but I think I got a theory , basically you are trying to find the vertical line ( the mirror line ) by setting the absolute value = 0 . Thus you get an equation where y=k ,some constant . As I said correct me if I'm wrong coz I'm trying to prepare for my upcoming year , still didn't take this
