I agree. I will take one of those over a tiny displacement four cylinder with twin turbos and a supercharger any day. Plus the sound makes a big difference. Now, let's talk about repairing one. Yes, I know, my Jeep takes 16 spark plugs, but the torque of the V-8 makes all the difference.
Right right, now go watch Whistlin Diesel's video on the Gwagon going up against dedicated 4wd rock & mud crawlers, and simply staying with them on those city tires. I don't think snow does much to stop it. The Gwagon is actually a very solid platform

I strongly believe it was the driver who made the Mercedes look so good. Sometimes people don't want to hear the truth about why someone can do something better. A lot of people used the excuse that you have x y and z on your truck and I don't. It really comes down to the driver. Back in the early 80s when I was drag racing after I did a lot of modifications and switched to strictly track tires I could not get my car to go any faster than it did before doing all that work. a good friend of mine asked me if I would let him take the car for the next round. He did and he took off a half a second. That's when I realized I have to learn to drive my car better. Since now we know there were no issues. I really enjoyed your video.

The old big V8 gasolin engine matched the G wagon like they was build for each other. The Torque from the V8 with the Gs four wheel drive and suspension, and the big offroad tires, worked extremely good in the wet deep mud. I believe all viewers became surprised and impressed with this performance. 👍

When I was young and beautiful I drove a same engine attached to АПП-66. The advantage was that you can ask your 30 passengers to carry it to a next puddle if you get stock

I would live to see that old engine get some modifications. Port and polish the heads, a more aggressive cam, a Holley Terminator or similar, some tuning. Maybe even some head work to raise compression.

With a carb you just get things in the ballpark and yeah they're easy to tune but fuel injection is easy to tune as well if you understand computers, understand fuel maps, and understand timing. Don't get me wrong I love carburetion and the fact you do t have to worry about software issues but with fuel injection you'll maintain precision in real time. Carburetion like I said you get it to a very close ballpark and they run indefinitely basically. Edit: I used the wrong form of the word weather like an idiot 😂😂😂

Watching this whilst using my recent acquisition of a Soviet C4313 multimeter from the 70's whilst circuit testing on a Raketa Amfibian quartz diver watch, most people over here in the UK think I am nutz loving all this old Soviet stuff lol The 4313 was a NOS never used, virgin with everything in waxed packets including the little tester glass bead resistors, all I had to do was solder in a 3xAA cell holder, give it a thorough clean as was immensely dusty and the plastic foam had turned to mush inside, working like a champ now :D :D :D

I don’t know what engine used to have this specific G Wagon but V8s are pretty reliable as well as OM606 Prado is a good of roader especially with the option of rear locker and of course good tires but you can’t compare it with the G Wagon, those things are beast for off road, triple locker, solid front and rear axle, and depend of the engine a lot more power This one in the video seems like some of the lockers are not working though min 14:55

Lower tire pressures needed to maximize change in tire shape as it rotates to help fling/evacuate mud from treads. Too-hard tires don't change in shape enough to fling mud or snow off.

It reminds me of my 75 V8 Rangerover, we would take it in some unbelievable places in complete luxury ✨️, the independent suspension had the front and rear differentials what looked like 90° to each other 😂, and the young sponsored professionals, in their rollcaged multicolor modern offroad vehicles, were laughing at us as to what they had been through from their end, but.... they had no idea about what we had already passed from our end of the track, x10 worse than they had, and we were drinking beer with the "Range Rover" made stereo blasting 😅

My 5.8 V8 only makes like 165HP but when you give it full throttle you get shoved back into your seat.

I'd say leave the compression low like that and gap the rings to supercharge it. That will for sure wake it up
