You guys are fantastic. We had an amazing time at your campground. Thank you for the excellent hospitality and we will be back soon :). Stay safe out there!
Looks like Jim had a great birthday, happy birthday to him. Good looking fish. What was on the inside of the Cale, the outside looked nice . live confidently and peacefully
Hi John! The inside of the cake was chocolate. Nothing incredibly fancy. The chocolate shavings on the outside were really good. We were too full to eat it because we had smores before dinner. I hope you're having a great week!
I loved this video as well. Loved the food it looked good too. Especially the salmon. The breakfast looked good too. Oh ha Jim Happy Birthday! Belated. Glad you caught some salmon on that day. Glad you had family too with you. Hope you all enjoyed yourselves. Looked like fun. Looking forward to next video. Sherri Weber
Thank you Chris! I think you're really going to enjoy the next one. A little hint...we take a hike into the mountains and find a little lake. 😁. We appreciate having you here with us.
Hi Terri! We think she was meant to be a fish. She has no greater joy than having a place to swim and we can watch her for hours. She is so much fun. Hope you are staying safe!
I am a very lucky guy! She is my best friend after all and we love our time together. Thank you so much for the birthday wishes. I am sure you will get a great catch :)
Happy birthday Jim, good to see you finally caught some fish for your B'Day. It was nice the family was there to celebrate with you. Dinner looked great!!! Cake was nice to finish dinner off. Again Happy birthday and have a wonderful day. Xoxo Your friend James
James, Thank you so much for the birthday wishes. I had a wonderful day between fishing and the family showing up. Stayed up a little too late but all was worth it :). Hope you are staying safe!
Happy Birthday, Jim! Great catch! Loved the video. Unbelievably beautiful scenery as usual. Thank you for sharing your special moments with us. I thrive on your videos. ❤
You are so very welcome! I think you will certainly enjoy the drive we took and the place we find next (which you my dear have a sneak peek into). Thank you for saying Hi. ❤️
Happy Birthday Jim!!! Wish we were there to celebrate... maybe with another sour toe? 😂. You are getting lots of use from your new grill. That looked like the best meal yet... but salmon for a midnight snack? 😂👍 Glad your kiddos were able to come and surprise you. And Cynthia, can't believe you were able to hide the cake, but in the bathroom??? 😂 Hope the fishing gets better soon for you guys. 7 hours would test anyone's patience. Love from NC... the other midnight snack state ❤️
Sour toe was such a great memory! We love the grill to help break up the meals it was a great addition. Well in the midnight sun it really doesn't feel like midnight so does it still qualify as a midnight snack if it is dinner? The kids coming was a fantastic way to end an amazing day. Fishing is so horrible right now hoping it improves for the second half of the season. Miss you guys and love you too! Stay safe out there we absolutely loved your last video!
Thank you Brenda. He was so stuffed he didn't have cake until later. We actually started off with s'mores before dinner because cake was the last thing on his mind. We had to relight the candles 3 or 4 times too so cakes and camping don't work out too well together but it was super fun to do. He figured it would be like every other year (but I usually go up with him). I think he was thinking I was just being lazy 😂. He was happy to see the kiddo's.
Good Sunday morning from The Land of Enchantment .New Mexico. Enjoyed the video as always. Love to watch you fish and finally catch a salmon. You did not tell us how it tasted. Until next time. Regards Roger
We didn't mention the taste did we? We inhaled it and went straight for dessert. 😁. It was amazing. This salmon has less of the "fishy" taste of others. It's flaky and melts in your mouth with a little kick of spicy smokey grill flavor. I hope you have a wonderful week Roger! We just took the Revel down a road we weren't too sure about driving and can't wait to show how that goes! See you soon!
My friends and I and my new puppy stayed at the salmon grove across the river! Scary feeling as the eagles could snatch a little puppy! Matter of fact, in early June, I watched them refurbish those fish cleaning tables!
Good morning Frank! We have stayed at Salmon Grove multiple times :). If you look at last years video that is where we were. Probably our favorite river for early fishing!
And get this, I had SPF 30 on! It was more on my face but I put it on my chest too! Those darn rays off the water. Hope you're off to a great start to this week! See ya again on Sunday. 😁
Thank you Denis, We have certainly taken an new direction with narration. All of this has really given me the ability to slow down and be more creative in what we put out. It remains real, but slower, more precise shots. We appreciate you hanging out with us. Hope you're enjoying this voice over experiment in our new ones. xoxo
Belated Happy Birthday Jim! Loved watching the salmon caught, filleting, and grilling that we just ordered a box from Alaska. Not fresh, but hey, close to it! Thanks for another terrific episode. Ember was being a good girl watching the vicious waves. ❤️
Thanks for the B-day love. Did you order your salmon from 10th and M? I've heard good things about their seafood shipping. That's pretty darn fresh! Ember was being so sooo good. I think she's started to figure out if we stay in an area she can't swim in we will take her to one later. :).
Wings and Wheels Alaska certainly glad Ember is learning in her middle age! Takes us humans a lifetime! Ordered Salmon from Wild Alaska Salmon and seafood. Would be more than happy to try your suggested company. Hopefully I can find them online and not too too expensive. Be well y'all. ♥️🦮
Don’t get no fresher then that happy Birthday . I’m from Louisiana if you like Cajun season try CampDog season think you will like it. Thanks for the tour
Thank's for the tip. We will look it up. We used to be into trying different types of seasonings and kind of collecting them. I've noticed recently we've started to become so basic again. I'd like to try something new. Thanks for spending some time with us!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIM WISH WE WAS THERE good luck on the fishing and getting more :)Cynthia your hair is getting lighter:)glad Amber got her swim in lol beautiful places thanks for sharing :)
Hi Dear. Thank you. My hair is doing all kinds of weird things. I haven't been to a salon in 6 months so it's very grey at the roots, getting thinner, and lighter and desperately in need of a trim. I think the toner on my color is washed out. Oh well. I'm considering grabbing a box color and going back to black like I used to be. You both would have loved this campground and fishing spot. The place we are at now is one of the ones we wanted to show you. An "off the beaten path" non-tourist area with a beautiful hike. Have a wonderful week and we will see you soon!! xoxo
My mouth fell open when you through out those fish eggs!!! Don't you tie them in 3" x 3" net and use them for bait???? Just put the hook through the net so you don't break the eggs. Best bait ever!!! Looks like you had a great birthday Jim!!! Salmon looks yummy too!! Happy Birthday Jim!!!
Thank for the birthday wishes, I appreciate it. We do keep eggs sometimes when it is closer to silver season but normally we catch so many fish during a season we don’t keep them all :). Hope you are staying safe!
Considering the weather and natural beauty, we can say Alaska is a fine combination of hell and the heaven This peace of vdo is from heaven, I believe.
We have the best of both worlds. Maybe it's Purgatory for some? There's days it's hell but for the most part, pure heaven. Thank you for stopping in. I hope you're enjoying our winter series as well. See you again soon. xo
Here in Texas, we can't wait this time of the year for Copper River Salmon. Very expensive but great tasting! That was about a $100 catch Jim made! Must be nice to boondock in Alaska this year! Less tourists I'm sure?
We haven't seen any tourists, just A LOT of Alaskan's who have a strong desire to get outside. The campgrounds we have seen have been filing up nicely so that's good for small business. And yes Copper River Salmon is EXPENSIVE. I don't think we mentioned that did we? It's a fresh out of the river, or "save for a special evening" type of dinner. It sounds crazy but we are usually good with catching around 6 fish when it's reds. We usually eat it fairly quickly but actually had some left over from last summer. It's also nice that our kids know how much work goes into that one yummy meal. We also have Halibut and rockfish but that's another story for another time. 😁. See you again soon.
Thank you so much for the birthday wishes. It was so late at night and well I am not much of a sweets eater lol. I know I know.. Eat it anyway :). The kids enjoyed it! Stay safe :)
LOVED your video :) Happy Birthday Jim :) I'm soooo envious...FRESH CAUGHT SALMON!!! I love salmon so much and only purchase the best although it's not fresh caught. They call me the salmon girl at whole foods because I ask a million questions...when was it flown in? Where was it caught? etc. I'm super picky. I can't even imagine how awesome fresh caught would taste. Love how red it is, that is "how salmon should look"! Thank you for the tin foil tip!!
You must know some great salmon recipes then! I love it with lemon and dill. If it's a king or pinks we like brown sugar spice rubs. Cajun works really well on it but blackened has become my favorite. In July we will go fishing for salmon we can smoke. From one salmon snob to another....we appreciate you hanging out with us!
@@WingsandWheelsAlaska One of my favorite ways to cook salmon is baking it. I do cut all the skin off and use olive oil and the seasoning Spike "original" I love Spike. I mix up raw pumpkin seeds with olive oil in a little bowl with more spike and when I flip the fish over I then put the pumpkin seeds in to get a little browned. Then when serving it I put a bunch of the seeds on the top and do a swirl of Teriyaki sauce. YUM! The seeds give it a nice crunch and so healthy. I love this with asparagus and whatever other side dish.
Thank you so much for the birthday wishes. We actually drove it to Alaska from Oregon when we purchased it. We took our time on the drive and spent several weeks so not sure how much we actually spent on the trip since we were just having fun :)
Loved the video! The opening shots of the various flowers were really cool. The one thing I always wonder is, do they smell good? Some flowers look pretty, but don't smell like anything at all. It's something I always wonder about because it seems to be hit and miss with wildflowers. I'm so happy that Jim was able to catch some salmon on his birthday! One thing he didn't tell us is what species of salmon they were. Are they just called "Reds"? Regardless, I think they were awesome! I also think it's an interesting choice going cajun on the seasoning, but I bet it tasted amazing. I can see that you two tend to lean toward the spicier side of things, and that makes sense considering that 70% of your time in Alaska involves the cold LOL. It was great getting to see you trying to squirrel away a cake in such a small space. There for a minute I was thinking that you were just going to create a baking setup and bake a cake yourself. I figure if the pioneers came up with such things, you could too. Of course, if you were going to bake in the Revel, you would have made chocolate chip cookies already! I certainly know I would have! It's great to see you documenting the changes to the various locations you've been staying at over the years. That slough of the ground near the bank makes sense considering what the ground consists of. It's all glacial till. I imagine that as the river below continues to eat away at the banks due to the way it bends right there, that whole section will be gone in a year or so. Have you contemplated any new adventures to places you've never been yet? It's always a lot of fun seeing you experiencing a location for the first time. Anyway, I loved the video, I'm glad Jim had a great birthday, and you're out living the dream! Keep up the great work you two!
Hi Brian. The wild roses smell good but the lupins don't. These salmon are "Copper River Red" that's their species and they are regionally specific. They taste amazing because of the minerals in the water. The spice gives it a little smokey kick, and it's all we had on hand. With just lemon and dill it's perfect too but I didn't have lemons. With King or Pink Salmon I like to use a brown sugar recipe. We love love spicy food. Funny you mentioned baking because we watched another van channel the other day who made Chocolate Chip Cookies from the premade store dough. VanCity Vanlife I think is his name. He's in Canada and fun to watch. I've also seen those I think they're called Omni pots. They bake over a flame. But....after raising 5 kinds and making so many creative and fun cakes over the years, the fun of cakes has fallen off a little. I'm not even sure our family really enjoys cake anymore! So it was a nice "What the heck is going on?" For him. It's always been kind of a given the Jims B-day would be spent on the river. We are going back and forth between places we've been and want to go because it feels comfortable at the time, and with many new places in mind as well. I start flying again in August so we are gong to squeeze as much into July as we possibly can. The plan? More hikes. Lots and lots of hikes. :). Have a great week!
Thanks for sharing, i'm headed up for my second trip. That boondocking spot at the 22 minute mark, i'm pretty sure i remember it. How was the road getting there? Could we get a 25 foot camper down it? Last time we went down that road i recall it being pretty bumpy
This is not a hard spot to get too. You can definitely get in there with a 25 foot camper but be careful of the erosion. This is a lookout off of the richardson highway just outside of Glenallen on the way to Valdez.
Hello Jim and Cynthia, Happy 20ish Birthday Jim? Sorry I haven’t talked or seen your videos. My u tube time has dropped to almost 0 since we left. It’s been really crazy trying to learn as much as we can with the rv. That and the u tube channel is taking a lot longer than planned. I think miss thing is trying to hard! Thank you both for the information/tips. I’ll get back on track soon. I hope you two are doing well. Take care.
Thank you for the birthday wish Andrew. We look forward to seeing your videos! We know it takes a long time lol. We are glad you are enjoying your experience and cant wait to follow along on your journey. Hope you aren't too hot down there lol. Love the pictures and snips of video you have sent us and hope we can reconnect before too long. Stay safe! The cases up here is getting us more nervous everyday.
Happy birthday Jim. Looks like Ember really had a lot of fun when she found some still water. Did she know not to jump in to the fast-moving river, or did you all have to restrain her?
We kept her on a leash at first because her instincts kept kicking in and she would run towards the water as if she was going to go in. Jim has his "Stern Daddy" voice with her which he rarely has to use with her but when it's bad she knows and stops. She would be sitting there watching people fish and be perfectly fine but then her brain would slip and she'd think the person fishing was throwing something in the water for her to retrieve and she'd start off running. It was kind of amusing watching her brain work like that. One the third day she realized she could stay off her leash if she would just sit and chill. Thank you for the birthday wishes. Happy Monday. 😁
haha. He's had that as his screensaver for a few years now. I ask him to update it but he's very proud of that picture so....💁🏻♀️. Thank you for sending him B-day wishes. I'll be sure to tell him you approve of his wallpaper. 😊
Hahahah Miles. They sat there for a good 10 minutes reading the instructions. That's our motorcycle tent and I've put it up hundreds of times. I gave it to them and said "Here, figure it out." I think they were trying to make a Tee Pee at first. 💁🏻♀️. Then I went and gave them a hint (It's not a tee pee) and then their little sister put down her pole and came to the rescue. Great afternoon entertainment. 😂. Thank you for the Birthday wishes.
We stayed at the Klutina campground. They were so nice and we had such a good experience here. Normally we just boondock while fishing but we wanted to support the local businesses due to lack of tourism this year.
If we were closer to the silver salmon season we would preserve it but we didn't want to haul it around in the van. Sometimes we keep sometimes we don't. Stay safe!
We have never tried frying them? We have used it as bait before but it depends on the time of year and we have several weeks before silver salmon start running so did not want to keep them in the van... How do you fry them?
That's a great idea. I think his intentions is to keep the skin stuck to the foil and the meat peels right off. With butter the skin might not stick? I dunno, either way is amazing. 😁❤️
Guys I just hit 1k wanted to let you know 20 percent of all my TH-cam revenue is going to the national suicide prevention lifeline. Would love to interview you guys some time I do them virtually
CONGRATULATIONS ON 1K SUBS! 🎉 🎊. I LOVE that you're using your TH-cam earnings towards a cause such as suicide prevention. Especially during these times. The interview sounds like a fun idea. We've never done anything like that before. Keep it up! You've overcome the hardest TH-cam hurdle, it's only up from here! xoxo
You're right, it's not. But it's also easier to carry around and easy clean up. I do plan on getting one as we use the grill more, but for now, foil is what we have and I think I bought that roll the day we picked up the van. 😂 Thank you for spending some time with us again.
Thanks for camping with us at Klutina Salmon Charters! Great video :)
You guys are fantastic. We had an amazing time at your campground. Thank you for the excellent hospitality and we will be back soon :). Stay safe out there!
That dog cracks me up! She really loves that water! 🤣

Thank Alma! If she can't swim where we're at we do our best to find her a spot. She lives for it. See you again soon!

Merci d'être ici avec nous. Je suis heureux que vous ayez apprécié! ❤️
Happy Birthday, Jim. That fish was soo red, looked yummy.
Thank you for the birthday wishes! The fish was absolutely amazing! The season has been off to a pretty slow start so far we are hoping it picks up!
That’s great life...
WE absolutely love it. Thanks for stopping by!
Happy Birthday Jim! Nice fish.
Thanks Mark! 👍
Happy birthday Jim, good to see you finally caught some fish for your B'Day. It was nice the family was there to celebrate with you.

I'm not a rain fan but I enjoyed this video anyway.
Funny, Im not a fan of sunshine. I have a feeling we'd make great friends. 😁. 💁🏻♀️.
happy birthday Jim !! nice cake you did have, was the last as good as the looks??
Hi Rob, it was really good! Thank you for the Birthday wishes!
Hey who is that super model on Jim's phone 👀 Happy bday!
haha. He's had that as his screensaver for a few years now. I ask him to update it but he's very proud of that picture so....💁🏻♀️. Thank you for sending him B-day wishes. I'll be sure to tell him you approve of his wallpaper. 😊
Ciaoo,bellissima avventura 👋🏻👋🏻🍻
Ciao! xoxo. 😚
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIM..AND HOW LONG DID IT REALLY TAKE THEM TO PUT UP THAT TENT?🤣
Hahahah Miles. They sat there for a good 10 minutes reading the instructions. That's our motorcycle tent and I've put it up hundreds of times. I gave it to them and said "Here, figure it out." I think they were trying to make a Tee Pee at first. 💁🏻♀️. Then I went and gave them a hint (It's not a tee pee) and then their little sister put down her pole and came to the rescue. Great afternoon entertainment. 😂. Thank you for the Birthday wishes.
Awesome video! What campground did you guys stay at?
We stayed at the Klutina campground. They were so nice and we had such a good experience here. Normally we just boondock while fishing but we wanted to support the local businesses due to lack of tourism this year.
@@WingsandWheelsAlaska Awesome Thanks! I will have to check them out next time I'm in Glenallen
Need to be careful near those cut banks. The river will drop them right out from under you. Hope we have a good 2021.
Great tip. That is very true Margie!
@@WingsandWheelsAlaska Watched 2 people drop straight down one time, too close and about 5 of them all standing there, in that very campground.
That’s not dinner, that’s a midnight snack lol.
True...But it's hard to know when it's 6pm or 12pm. 💁🏻♀️😁
What! You threw salmon roe away!!!
If we were closer to the silver salmon season we would preserve it but we didn't want to haul it around in the van. Sometimes we keep sometimes we don't. Stay safe!
oh man you don't through the roe away, you fry it up
We have never tried frying them? We have used it as bait before but it depends on the time of year and we have several weeks before silver salmon start running so did not want to keep them in the van... How do you fry them?
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You spent a lot of time with us last night! THANK YOU!
Happy birthday Jim - Another day in the live. Love it. Check out my Fair Acres video (long version). I used the same song ; ) I think you'd like it.
Thank you for the birthday wishes! We try to catch the Revel ones when you post them :). You do a really good job with your videography!
@@WingsandWheelsAlaska Thanks - Been too busy with work video to make fun Revel ones. Soon
One tip,You should spread a bit of butter to that tin foil..
That's a great idea. I think his intentions is to keep the skin stuck to the foil and the meat peels right off. With butter the skin might not stick? I dunno, either way is amazing. 😁❤️
is the old lady your mom?
Hi Uzma, thanks for stopping in and watching.
Keep it up! You've overcome the hardest TH-cam hurdle, it's only up from here! xoxo
@@WingsandWheelsAlaska awesome let me know I have bj shea from kisw coming on
please get a stainless steel cooking sheet for your fish - aluminum is not healthy!
You're right, it's not. But it's also easier to carry around and easy clean up. I do plan on getting one as we use the grill more, but for now, foil is what we have and I think I bought that roll the day we picked up the van. 😂 Thank you for spending some time with us again.
