Using a transformer to step down for the DSO,, would also change the actual waveshape at the output, as transformer primary and secondary coils are essentially inductors, thus the higher harmonics will be eliminated.
You could have used a resistor divider network instead to lower down the voltage reaching the oscilloscope.

Don't use a transformer to step down the voltage. It will change the shape of the output waveform.
