It is a good one off guide for learning the simple secret to dominate options trading minus the normal expense. Ive heard some decent things about it and my cousin finally got amazing success with it.

Thanks for the video. Does a 1x (1x leverage, i.e 1 point = 1p in the Tesco example) spread bet then count as a an actual share trade and is therefore subject to CGT and Stamp Duty? I'm just wondering, because if the underlying you want to trade doesn't pay a decent dividend (i.e tech stocks), I'd just set up a 1x spread bet and save the taxes? Or am I missing something?

This was great, I've been looking for "spread bettors" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Keton Jenackenzie Equalizer - (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my friend got cool results with it.

you dont ever own the underlying asset. you're 'borrowing' the shares effectively. so when you sell, you're giving the shares back in a way.

Yes Ive just realised that on the indicies future, which is all I gamble on, there is a factor of 30 points adrift at the start of each new quarter compared to the actual cash market, so basicall you are disadvantage 30 points plus the spread of 4 points and that has to be recovered simply to be able to gamble with the position at an equal level to the cash. Its either that or just gamble on the daily DFB which is a waste of time because its even more impossible to ride a daily wave

Most investments fail because of the necessity to always come to TH-cam for a reference of how to make your trades work using a 'somewhat' defined procedure. It won't always work for all trades. When you want the best from investments you just have to let an expert handle it for a certain stage especially as newbies. Even with my experience I still Invest in Portfolios with high reward commodities.

One thing of late that concerns me Tim, is the way some SB platforms are aggressively touting IPOs such as "poundland", "petsathome" etc as SB opportunities. They are even included on the main page on some platforms, under the "popular markets" heading. I doubt many newbies are aware of the risk involved, and naively assume low exposure based on stake and stop size, is sufficient protection against adverse price movement. As a rule, I'm usually skeptical of the supposed "benefits" of state intervention, but this carry on seems to me, to be the intentional exploitation of novice ignorance.

Who pays the bet if you win? In other words, if you buy shares and they go up in value it is because the company is making money and the stockholders' equity has gone up, I don't understand how the underlyings' of spread betting work. The profit making principle in the video is quite simple however, and well explained.
The broker pays, since it's a leveraged position - when you open a position on a spread bet the broker bares the risk of paying you if you win (You're predictions are correct) and you bare the risk of paying the broker if you lose (You're predictions are incorrect).
Also keep in mind the Spread betting is more or less taking out a loan from the broker every time you open a position, for example you put down 10% and the broker lends you the remaining 90%.

bulliethepirate Just like a casino, they are designed in favour of the casino to win, and just like a casino, if you win too often you will draw their attention and possibly get kicked out.

The spread can vary quite a bit depending on which market you are participating in and annoyed me when I first started trading though I don't even notice it these days. I use the pipdaq setups these days and are so in a trading routine that stress from spreads and other market factors don't come into the equation. These things seem to matter more when you're losing rather than winning and luckily I fall into the latter category now!

@MoneyWeekVideos and others. First you have to make money to pay tax, ever wondered why the tax man don't tax it? If you understand spread betting you would know it's like taking a bet with a bookie they will give you poor odds on the favourite by widening the spread. Sometimes they will just stop taking bets on one side to balance the book by going to phone only, or even call bets void. With a CFD you can claim losses against tax and you have a firm legal contract that cannot be broken.
Can someone explain why you need a bid offer spread? Since you are just betting on the point change, why does it matter what you buy/sell at?
+jebobify because thats how your broker makes the money, he makes the money on that spread, otherwise your broker works for free:). When your order is places you always start at a loss, which is the spread and if the price is going the right was as you wanted then you'll get into profit. Feel free to confirm my explanation as it's only what I think is the case as I have read up on it briefly.

it is same as fx trading. We use it for tax reasons... spread is basically like the commission they'd take from you. Wether its worth it or not depends on the the size of the spreads obviously.

Spread refers to commission available in any stock market through there is some differences between Forex and stock market. However Forex spread is the most crucial issue to consider. I have the lowest commission or spread with Trade12 broker. I have all ECN accounts with the lowest amount of commission.
sang3Eta. Actually there are several considerations before you would substitute a CFD for a spread bet - it's not a clear cut decision but rests on weighing up tax, costs, timing etc. I may do a video on this if there is enough interest in it as a topic. Cheers Tim.

You are off topic, this is about spread bets on shares, thats totally different to sports bets that you do. Sure the theory is a bit similar, but the similarity is of no consequence at all, nor is it relevant even
You will lose your shirt at financial spread betting. Go to a trading forum like "iii" and ask a few people. Taking a bet with a bookie is not the same as playing against the market. If you need to leverage long and short use CFDs.
Gambling isn't investing. First major difference. Second major difference is when it goes wrong. Its a lot more painful than just holding on to equities. Its the same old casino mentality: "hey kid, make a bet, you could win a fortune! put your wallet away son, we'll settle up when you cash out your winnings!" I'll stick to equities thanks! It is indeed very dangerous in the wrong hands - the hands its largely aimed at. Great video though.
making wealth is a consequence, not a reward. Traders make overall profits from spread betting because they put in the work, the time, the effort, have a strategy, etc. If you treat spread betting like "gambling" of course it'll reward you like a casino.."the wrong hands" are just lazy individuals. You should certainly stick to equities if it's all you have decided to work with..
+sid77777 the ''war on terror'' is over - so war inflation being over means commodities are coming down in value - meaning manufacturing companies like nike etc get there materials cheaper - so we are currently in biggest bull market for 30 years - now - this wont last forever - so spreadbetters and investors should....SHOULD both be making money at the moment in the stock market - but over the longer term - the market grinds higher - not flies as is the case now - and it shake's and whipsaw's short term traders out of there positions -
(R:E lazy traders - what about new/enthuisiastic traders who spend hours looking for set ups just to get whipsawed out as the market does nothing for half the year consolidating the gains of bull run? - doesn't mean they are lazy buddy)
you may have made money recently but like i said it doesn't take a genius in this market environment - so i wouldn't get too cocky lol - traders come and go but the real top guys make money in a bear market - so if you have a short term trading strategy that has worked since the early 2000's then i'd be very interested to hear it, if not as i am interested in making money over the longer term i'll stick with the equites - even with CGT taxes etc - 70-80% (or whatever it is) of something is better than 100% of nothing ... but this is just my opinion :-)

The prime medium of a broker of earning is spraed or commission. Every broker takes commission from their traders through spread. But as a low spread broker I have selected Trade12 broker. Their spread is flexible and varies from account to account but this remains low in all of their account.

It is certainly not the lowest, not even close. I operate with Forex4you broker who is regulated by FCS and to me that is the most important thing. After that, if I talk about spread that is the LOWEST starting from 0.1 pips for all major pairs, negative balance protection, swap free account with not having to worry about paying overnight charges and plus much more, it all works highly in my favor and keeps me entirely relaxed with working.

I love the wealth of information you are providing on all the videos however as soon as you said 'Broker" and "Commission" I just about cringed and threw up a little bit in my mouth. Who the hell in their right mind uses a Broker these days. Taking into account that this was posted in 2010, even then that I just horrible.
Brokers are in for 1 thing and 1 thing only. to bleed you dry with silly commissions. I can't recall when the last time I used a broker for trading, I know!!! back in 1999.

Duh, thats why its called spread betting. All retail trading, in fact all trading and investing, but (retail) trading in particular, is gambling.
Exactly, this is why I hate the derivatives market to a core. It has purposes but they are clearly abused when this spread betting is advertised. Futures are there to lock in prices for producers and consumers, not to bet on the underlying. Options are there to protect stocks, not to spread bet with.
As you said, "this is gambling", yes sir it is, there is no steady income, you are purely speculating on an underlying that you don't even own.
No not. in gambling odds are fixed. but in trading u can increase your odds in your favour by analysis.
