    This is the best online instruction ever. I watched several of your bowing technique videos and my playing has improved dramatically in just 24 hours. My intonation still sucks, but my tone and fluidity between notes and strings -- OMG. Amazing.

    How difficult is to find a teacher who is clear and so easy to understand. That's Tobiah. For violinists who have short attention span and only can receive limited information in a moment like myself this is truly a gift. I cannot tell you how many teachers I have lost because I couldn't process extra added words that they would use in their sentences. I can say with certainty that I improved more watching Tobiah than any live lessons I had. (Those teachers were amazing teachers just not for me). I always wondered how difficult it is to be a teacher? I would pull my hair out. I'd become bald probably from all the stress teachers go through. Thanks Tobiah😌

      Every day I think about how immensely blessed I am to have this job. That being said, there are days when it is stressful, but it only lasts during the brief period of the occasional difficult lesson, and I look at things over a long timeline, like “what will this student accomplish over 5 years.” While what happens in the individual lesson is part of that larger picture, a bad lesson in and of itself is not going to derail that, so that mitigates much of the stress.
      Also, I’m much more concise in videos than lessons. Not that I over-talk in lessons, but in a video you do have the advantage of thinking about how to exactly word something and then do multiple takes.

    Just the perfect vid for me, I've been having some problems with the bow since I switched to playing without shoulder rest :(
    I'm not going back to play with shoulder rest because I've improved in a lot of other aspects and I love the sound I developed, but it's true that now I don't dare to play with so much bow as before (maybe because I'm afraid of the instability of the violin if I'm not careful), and I have other problems with the sound...
    Edit: My teacher showed me the problem! I have to adjust where I place the violin, in my case, more to the center, otherwise if it goes too out my bow can't reach the tip and that's why it's not parallel to the bridge and the sound is messy!

    Oh yeah, this is super simple. Easy, too. Except for those times wen I change my bow to another string and it suddenly whispers. Or when it creeps too close to the bridge and squeals. Or when it randomly touches the A string when I'm on the D string. Or when it bounces. Or when... Yeah, simple. Easy. No. If I can move from A to D string without any extra sounds, I call my mother.

    hi, im studing classical guitar and i started studying violin a few months ago, do you know if the nails of my right hand will affect the holding of the bow?

    • @MurphyMusicAcademy
      @MurphyMusicAcademy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Unfortunately, the thumb and pinky nails do need to be short for a proper bow hold, yes

    Hi Tobiah, have you ever played with a baroque style bow and are there any hints on how to do this effectively? For everyone else, this is an example of how the bow is different: th-cam.com/video/snKsXS_nT_w/w-d-xo.html
