Watching Jay interact with those young people at the Eco-marathon makes me like him all the more. What a great guy, so natural, unpretentious and encouraging
Superb show! I've always liked Leno's way of presenting interesting stuff, he's laid back, good humoured and he obviously really does know his stuff, not a faker, also gives credit where its due. Leno's Garage is my favourite TH-cam channel by far.
For me, the Best This about this cable show, "Jay Leno's Garage", is not just all the cool car stuff. it's Jay Leno. Whatever he ever does, I'll watch. He is like fresh air in a world of failed funny. Adding his love for cars makes him my favorite cool dude on the planet. Thank You, Jay Leno.
I can see GM's lawyers pulling their hair out trying to figure out how to get that great EV1 back so they can crush it. What a nice man Francis is, and a wonderful collection of cars.
+louiewashere3 I would think that the car had the powertrain removed. There were some survivors, my college had one on display, however GM had removed the powertrain and internals first.
Not now with the reintroduction (hopefully temporary) of electric cars. It probably used NiCad batteries. If the drivetrain was removed, you know how Jay is putting a Nissan Leaf motor in an Edwardian era Baker Electric, the EV1 could be "retromodded" the same way.
Around 25 years ago I was living in Ypsilanti Michigan and was so lucky to see one on the road. I just about wrapped my little Toyota wagon round a large tree. There's a Tucker Museum there Ypsilanti Michigan.
chris ce I suppose I am lucky but as a citizen I had to serve during the Vietnam era. Your bucket list sounds great. You may wish to add the American West to your agenda as well. I'll enjoy some of the activities you list.
The black dashboard switches of the NSU are identical to the ones the Opel Rekord Caravan (station wagon) use to have.. Back in the day we had a 1968. Brought back wonderful memories...
When that experimental car hit the wall I recognized the sound. The same sound as in the 80s when the garbage man tossed back the old metal trash can onto the driveway after emptying it.
Great info!!! WOW, the guy had "2 Tuckers" and only 51 built. Not many can claim "I drove one". Just can't imagine how cool and where 3D car printing can go to, 👍
Man oh man those Tucker's are epic cars, I really wish people would make more of them. Just gorgeous cars, nothing else quite as graceful and beautiful, except maybe Ducemburgs.
The super-stiffness of the Local Motors' car is actually a downside. If a car doesn't deform on impact, the whole force is taken by the passengers, leading to serious injuries.
Highly unusual to see Coppola do something like this - Leno is really good at presenting these, very relaxed and knowledgeable, puts his guests at ease.
Apparently Jay Rogers doesn't understand the term "man hour," lol. If you have 6 guys working on it, they need to assemble it in 10 minutes for 1 man hour. 6 guys assembling the car for an hour is 6 man hours.
An acquaintance of mine, Mr. Cofer, had a Tucker that was used in the Movie -- a mint green -- and he was Very Upset because the car got a paint-chip in the drivers door! It was a 'survivor' in Perfect Condition! Kept in a climate-controlled storage, and extremely well cared for... which is WHY the paint-chip 'mattered' so much. Mr. Cofer has passed away, but I am pretty sure his sons still have the car. BTW -- they Live in TUCKER Georgia!! A suburb on the east side of Atlanta...

Because they're trying to reproduce the original. Which, no matter how hard they try, can't be done. The ingredients just don't meld together like they did with the original series.
If I'd 3d print my own car it would look like a Jaguar e-type or a Ferrari 250 GTO probably wouldn't get a 3d printed v12 to work but I'll figure something out.
When I was a kid growing up in Detroit in 1963, and on the corner of Outer Drive & Asbury Park, and stop at the light, there was a Chrysler turbine and the exact same color as the one Jay was driving. Two men in suits & tie! ( who knows it could of been the same car)
Ayyy Lmaoo , I agree , there’s thousands of supposed “classic “ cars on the road. They require a lot of maintenance and could benefit from a nice electric power train .
Well only 51 Tucker cars built. There are two of them sitting end to end along route 50 in south western Pennsylvania near Noblestown road. That's like 4 percent of the entire production. They have an aircooled airplane engine behind the back seat. I think they are six cylinder and small displacement cylinders. One of them is sort of bronze colored and the other one a faded green and both are absolutely filthy. Franklin engines are still available new and occasionally used in homebuilt airplanes. george and aurora
Fun fact. When Francis Greets Jay with the word "Mengjezim" it means Good morning in Albanian. That specific dialect is used by the Arberesh communities that live mainly in southern Italy and even in Bernalda where Coppola's family is from.
Its nice to see the history of great cars you post to your channel. The other day I asked my young son in law what is a Cord and he told me you plug It in and comes in up to 100 FT links . Its sad that lots of young people of today have no knowledge of the great classics. Yes LOL, I am afraid to ask him what a KAISER is because he would probably say its a Dinner Roll !

Jay Leno and Francis Ford Coppola together, such a perfect combination. Loved every bit of it.
Superb show! I've always liked Leno's way of presenting interesting stuff, he's laid back, good humoured and he obviously really does know his stuff, not a faker, also gives credit where its due. Leno's Garage is my favourite TH-cam channel by far.

I love how Jay Leno is so laid-back, nonchalant and just a regular guy with cars. He's not one of these uppity in-your-face car collectors
He's so cool and just a normal regular person, totally unaffected by his fame and his hundreds of millions. I love listening to him talk.
Thanks to Mr Coppola for keeping these gems and thanks to Jay and his passion for cars of all kinds!
I can see GM's lawyers pulling their hair out trying to figure out how to get that great EV1 back so they can crush it. What a nice man Francis is, and a wonderful collection of cars.

Francis' net worth is a quarter billion; the lawyers would have a helluva fight!

I doubt they care.
Francis ford is a national treasurel his films speak for themselves. But always a kind and friendly person.
Around 25 years ago I was living in Ypsilanti Michigan and was so lucky to see one on the road. I just about wrapped my little Toyota wagon round a large tree. There's a Tucker Museum there Ypsilanti Michigan.
Mr. Leno, your garage show is the best television I watch! Mostly the only tv I enjoy these days. This is one of my favorite episodes
Thank Jay, We do appreciate you more than you will ever know!!!
With every second of his show, the more and more i understand why Jean Leno is such a legend.
Carson & Leno were truly great comedians , whats left is just the left , no Talent at all just mouth pieces
I've always thought the Chrysler turbine was a gorgeous machine and the sound is brilliant.
ourtime-downhere, they got horrible fuel mileage. very difficult to maintain, and the power wasn't great.
Really enjoyed the time with Mr. Coppola an amazing house nice vineyard and 2 Tuckers. Liked the "And were did we go right" saying.
Wow. In a $2,000,000 car and someone else is driving it, and he says "drive faster". That's truly respecting a car for what it was built for.
Jay is still a human being, so yes, he is "someone else".
chris ce You might be surprised whom I know. You're obviously star struck. Believe me Jay and other famous folks are little different than you are.
chris ce I never bragged about who I know. I never mentioned any names. i don't judge anyone or assume anything. Have a happy 4th.
chris ce I suppose I am lucky but as a citizen I had to serve during the Vietnam era. Your bucket list sounds great. You may wish to add the American West to your agenda as well. I'll enjoy some of the activities you list.
There's also the very real possibility that two million dollars is nothing to him, like a $200 car to me and you.
Leno and FFC- what a great interview ! Love these two so much !!!!!
This made my day, good watch during the lockdown. Thanks Jay!
The 1956 XKSS is my favorite car so far. This my favorite Jay Leno car video, especially the Coppola part. Thanks.
I heard that in the middle East, the Turbin car was very popular.
You just have to sikh them out
@TheManwithnogod Turbin cars definitely a head turner.
they came with a free Iraq of Ribs
This thread is raising the art and lowering the tone of the entire comments thread.
Iran to the dealership, met the salesman, but egypt me so I left.
I don't really like car shows, but I love Jay Leno and will watch whatever he's in.
I like how they give Jay a hammer to wail on the 3D car - a RUBBER HAMMER.
The black dashboard switches of the NSU are identical to the ones the Opel Rekord Caravan (station wagon) use to have.. Back in the day we had a 1968. Brought back wonderful memories...
I simply love Jay Leno and his car obsession is infectious!
And his corny humor too!
Dude ... My favorite car in the World ... The A/C ... Awesome !!! I was on your Show after i saved Kevin Eubanks near Catalina Island ...
Just can't imagine how cool and where 3D car printing can go to, 👍
Donald Osborn is always my favorite part of the show!
Man oh man those Tucker's are epic cars, I really wish people would make more of them. Just gorgeous cars, nothing else quite as graceful and beautiful, except maybe Ducemburgs.
Oh god the Turbine car is such a work of art! Absolutely love it.
Financial failure and horrible fuel mileage.
Love the sound of the door closing on the Tucker...solid!!
The super-stiffness of the Local Motors' car is actually a downside.
If a car doesn't deform on impact, the whole force is taken by the passengers, leading to serious injuries.
True Max S but the bigger issue is the forces exerted on the car & occupants when hit by a 5,500 lb SUV.
I saw a big Tatra in East Berlin in 1969. Still very aerodynamic from what I could tell.
I remember watching a movie about the Tucker in school and it's a pretty interesting story and it is definitely a very beautiful car.
coppola was the one who directed it, he's also the old guy who owns this one.
@@herbertgarrison6548 I actually didn't know that wow!. Coppola has directed quite a few of my favorite movies. Thanks for sharing this with me .🙏
Jay.. your the best. Old school Talent, Class.. and Entertainment. Johnny did it right and you knocked it out of the park
When Coppola stepped out of the Tucker, I thought he'd say : " Leave the gun, take the cannoli. "
On the day of his daughter's wedding?
Highly unusual to see Coppola do something like this - Leno is really good at presenting these, very relaxed and knowledgeable, puts his guests at ease.
Turbine car impressive great show, Granny's Tesla leaves Jay Leno &His Cobra in the dust, the first printed car awesome
Granny's Tesla ends 1 round of Nurburgring with 160HP output and deplented battery.
Because the Tesla has full torque from start to full speed, just like a steam engine. HP is a combination of torque and speed
..they're really the fan's Cars...
Jay is just in permanent charge of them ...
Thanks for keeping all of them picture-ready Jay...!
This is one badass car show :D . I love Leno's enthusiasm and making a car related interview with Mr. Coppola is just EPIC .
Jay, drives up to Francis Ford Coppola's house, and hangs out for a bit? Very nice Jay. You are the best.
Apparently Jay Rogers doesn't understand the term "man hour," lol. If you have 6 guys working on it, they need to assemble it in 10 minutes for 1 man hour. 6 guys assembling the car for an hour is 6 man hours.
In addition those shocks, motors etc. realistically should be counted somewhere
I was more put off by their strength test with a rubber mallet. I could hit a piece of cardboard with that and not damage it. Give him a real hammer.
China laughs at his man hour...
" ROR...Jay we have 60 guys work on car for 20c an hour...get done in 2 minutes.."
He said that was his GOAL, do you English?
An acquaintance of mine, Mr. Cofer, had a Tucker that was used in the Movie -- a mint green -- and he was Very Upset because the car got a paint-chip in the drivers door! Coppola seemed like such a cool guy.
As usual, when I watch your shows, I learned a lot. If I was a school teacher, I would integrate your videos into my history classes.
One of the best show's on the web! Thanks Jay!
This is my new favorite show. I didn't even know where CNBC was on the cable menu.
In the future Jay Leno will be wearing carbon fiber that looks like denim.
Brilliant show. I particularly enjoyed the piece with Francis Ford Coppola.
Note to self. If you ever get a time machine. Go back to 48 and buy a Tucker lol.
Or to pick Powerball number lol
This is prolly the best jay leno garage ever..... I gotta meet this granny..... :)
why isn't the new top gear like this ? ? ? ? ?
Because the new Top Gear sucks.
+Hugh KIrk definitely.
James May has a new show "Cars of the People" which is a lot like this show. The last episode I watched, he even drove Jay's turbine car.
Because they're trying to reproduce the original. Which, no matter how hard they try, can't be done. The ingredients just don't meld together like they did with the original series.
They need to find someone like Clarkson. A man who you have every reason to hate, but don't, quite.
Chrysler actually started shoving the turbine in Plymouths starting in '54; drove a '56 turbine cross country.
Donald and Jay actually kept their clothes swapped throughout that whole segment. Hilarious.
That Tucker is drop-dead gorgeous ! Some hate it, but I love the lines.
If I'd 3d print my own car it would look like a Jaguar e-type or a Ferrari 250 GTO probably wouldn't get a 3d printed v12 to work but I'll figure something out.
Oh, yeah. That would be the ticket.
+Thedeoradude just make it something really square, like a Testarossa or a DeLorean.
Thedeoradude
Make it electric. Problem solved.
Thedeoradude"The body would be the hard part, you can't 3d print that shape"

Your words not mine pal/
Koenigsegg 3D-prints their turbo's so I don't think an engine is too far off.

What a great show and a fantastic man.

No actually I clicked for the EV1 but the Tucker is cool too.

Jay Leno's garage is such a great show.
Nice one, Jay; Canadian 'tool box, eh.'
Jay Leno cracks me up! One day he is Italian, and the next episode he is Scotish!!
He'll make ya an offer that no laddie can rrrrrefuse
would love to see classic cars with electric motor swaps in the future..not really a big fan of car designs from the 2000's and up
Ayyy Lmaoo , I agree , there’s thousands of supposed “classic “ cars on the road. They require a lot of maintenance and could benefit from a nice electric power train .
Half the experience of driving a classic car is the sound, smell, and feel. Electric drivetrain takes away all of that
Apollo , but it seems like it would be cheaper to just blow through your pursed lips and make engine noise.
@@shepherdsknoll8 well considering to replace a battery module in most telsas costs between 4-6 thousand dollars, not sure it's cheaper just yet!

wow Leno took the words rite out of my mouth! a phrase i too had been telling people, Its all about torque in drag racing not neccesarily Hp. Hp is to long distance runners as Torque is to sprinters. HP is how fast you can apply the torque. I can make as much torque as a car, but I have less than 1 HP so I can't make that torque nearly as quickly
Well the P90D has 548HP about 200 more HP than a Camaro and a Camaro is faster. by about 10MPH
Cubic inches FTW. Olds 455 isn't king of drag racing for nothing.

Hey thanks J, I grew up in Branford CT I saw the Aurora, in the back of a gas station lot, on a regular basis. Always wondered what the story was.
If Jay hadn't roasted the tires on takeoff he would've obliterated that Tesla.
Not obliterated it, but certainly the race wouldn't have looked as it did.
Not really. But, yes, it would have been closer.
The idea was that you should understand that a Tesla isn't your normal slow eco car with just a focus on non pollution. I guess it was wasted.
Its focus is on everything but being fast
Actually he didn't even have a chance. The Tesla will outrun even the most powerful fuel eaters.
Man how cool is that 3d printed cars!
Someone tell Jay that spinnin' ain't winnin' against that Tesla? LOL
