What do the miners do to restore the destroyed ecosystems of the mining sights. Prevention of further erosion and making the ground available for rehabilitation of native plants must be done at some level.

It is regulated by the Government. Top soil is stripped and saved for future rehabilitation with seeds. It's a lot more stricter than you think. Permits are needed for any groundbreaking. If a company fails to rehabilitate a mine once finished, they are subject to closures and huge fines. All of this is calculated into the price of extraction before a single piece of dirt is removed. I hope this helps.
