- "Love" shouldn't necessarily be a romantic thing. This small story features the path of a ThunderClan warrior, Patchpelt, to finding the meaning of love for himself.

This video follows the life of Patchpelt, a canon background character that lived in Thunderclan before Rusty joined and until the Rising Storm. Even based on the canonical facts and events, this story is NOT fully canonically accurate, and doesn't really try to be so. Call this an AU if you wish!

Timeline/summary:
0:00 Patchkit and his sister Leopardkit are fooling around in the nursery.
0:09 Patchkit's apprentice ceremony, young warrior Fuzzypelt becomes his mentor.
0:13 Patchpaw sees Robinwing, Fuzzypelt's mate who's waiting for her kits, cheering from the nursery.
0:16 Timeskip. Robinwing's kits Brindlekit and Frostkit are running around and she puts them to sleep.
0:21 Timeskip. Some moons later, Brindlekit and Frostkit are sleeping next to Robinwing, they are soon ready to become apprentices. Fuzzypelt brings her a mouse, but Robinwing is not very happy about the relationship they have at the moment.
0:26 Patchpelt, who's already become a warrior at that point, watches the scene, realizing he has some kind of feelings for Robinwing.
0:30 Patchpelt comes up to Robinwing and expresses his feelings. He feels sorry about it knowing that Robinwing has a mate. Robinwing acts supportive, smiling at him, admitting she may have some kind of feelings for him, too.
0:44 Timeskip. Patchpelt and Robinwing had a kitten, Stripekit (Longkit), and Robinwing is tired and slightly upset, because Patchpelt doesn't give her or their kit any attention. Patchpelt meanwhile does not understand why he doesn't feel really happy and why can't his and Robinwing's relationship just be something better, something that some other cats have.
0:57 Patchpelt looks at Goldenflower and realizes that now he has feelings for her. Stripekit comes up to him, and Patchpelt turns away, guilty because he just can't care really much for this kitten or for Robinwing.
1:10 Patchpelt comes up to Goldenflower and expresses his feelings to her. With no hesitation she tells him they are mutual.
1:24 Timeskip. Goldenflower gave birth to Swiftkit and Lynxkit, and Patchpelt is very excited.
1:29 Timeskip. Patchpelt spends time playing with Swiftkit.
1:31 Timeskip. Swiftkit becomes Longtail's apprentice, Swiftpaw. Patchpelt is genuinely happy for both of his sons. He turns to see Goldenflower's reaction and realizes that she actually fell in love with Tigerclaw. He feels heartbroken.
1:44 Timeskip. Still salty about this whole situation, Patchpelt goes to his new sleeping spot, in the Elders den.
1:51 Dream sequence. Patchpelt wakes up, walks out of the Elders den and sees bodies of both of his sons in the middle of the camp: Swiftpaw torn apart by dogs and Longtail killed by a fallen tree. He realizes that he shouldn't take the cats in his life for granted because he can lose them anytime.
1:57 Timeskip. Patchpelt is having a good time joking around with the rest of elders and telling stories to Cloudkit.
2:11 Timeskip. The forest fire starts. Patchpelt tries to escape the camp, but hears Halftail calling for help. He runs back and helps his friend, but when they try to finally get out, Patchpelt collapses from inhaling too much smoke.
2:23 The clan says the last goodbye to Patchpelt.
Notes:
- Even though Patchpelt was Fuzzypelt's apprentice, the age gap between Patchpelt and Robinwing is not too big, because Robinwing and Fuzzypelt just became warriors when Patchkit's apprentice ceremony took place.
- Patchpelt had a crush on Robinwing after his warrior ceremony.
- Regardless of the many breakups between the cats in the video, I like to believe that there was a very trusting and understanding relationship between all of them, nobody cheated or talked behind the other's back. The news were announced very soon after the realisation scenes, and nobody was upset with it.
- Goldenflower didn't fully acknowledge she and Tigerclaw had something when Patchpelt realized that. Patchpelt wasn't mad at Goldenflower for it, he was just disappointed about not being able to make a perfectly working relationship. After the dream sequence, he stopped being salty and remained good friends with Goldenflower till his death.
Goldenflower: -you had kits with your mentor's mate , so I have kits with your nephew
I find it really interesting that robinwing had two litters with fuzzypelt, then had a litter with patchpelt, and then went back to fuzzypelt to have her final litter with those kits being dustpelt and ravenpaw. After being a fan of these books for a decade I don’t think I ever realized that dustpelt, ravenpaw, and longtail were all siblings!!

I would love to read a story about Patchpelt and his mates. If they are going to insist on adding this information to the Wiki, they can at least give us a short story about it to make it canon. Love dramas occurring within the clans are always interesting to me. I’m not talking about forbidden love, I’m talking about in the clans. Like Lightleap, Blazefire and Sunbeam, or Bristlefrost, Stemleaf, and Spotfur. And everybody’s favorite: Ashfur Squirrelflight, and Brambleclaw/star
AAAH THIS IS SO GOOD! I love PMVs that develop background characters like this! I've never cared much about Patchpelt, but this has made me really interested in his story! You portrayed all the emotions of the characters super well and the designs rock too

Some have kits out of duty (Willowpelt had three litters right out of apprenticeship), or some wait to have kits with their mates. They might mate with a tom they see as a suitable surrogate for the kits they want (in the case of Goldenflower, who had Lynxkit and Swiftpaw with Patchpelt most likely out of duty or bc she wanted kits). It’s not as common in the books anymore, but in the beginning, most semi-permanent queens had kits without actually having a real mate. In Yellowfang’s Secret, Lizardstripe and Mudclaw were like this, having a litter out of duty more than anything else even tho Lizard hated it (I mostly blame her for how Brokenstar turned out).

Wow! This PMV is awesome! Honestly, I didn’t have the best perspective on Patchpelt beforehand, but now after watching this, I’m really glad this is out there! I really wish more people would take the time to create more content for background characters!

During the time when I was still pretty fresh into Warriors, I was into SSSwarriorcats and BS prophecy episodes. And I LOVED PATCHKIT, DAPPLEPAW AND LEOPARDKIT. Their interactions and chosen voices were perfect, felt so genuine, realistic and familiar. Soo I kind of got attached to them lol. I felt a pang of sadness at Patchpelt dying in this video. But yeah, woohoo patchy!

The sister thing was mentioned by one of Hunters, but it was undid when they realized that Patch and Willow are siblings.

The video is amazing though I find it funny how you show Goldenflower leaving Patchpelt for his nephew Tigerstar(claw) though to be honest the 1 detail I find funny which I still find funny to this day Tigerstar(claw) dislikes kittypets and he chose a kitty pet as his second mate Sasha which Tigerstar's(claws) and Sasha's relationship doesn't last long and Tigerstar(claw) never knew about his second litter of kits Tadpole Hawkfrost and Mothwing sure he finds out about Hawkfrost later on in the second warrior cat series but he never knew about Mothwing and you might as well count that Tigerstar(claw) knew about Tadpole as well cause in a dream Sasha has about Tigerstar(claw) they talk about Tadpole which quote on quote they say this "is Tadpole with you?" "No Tadpole isn't with me but he's safe" and in the end of return to the clans Tigerstar(claw) promises Sasha to watch over Hawkfrost and Mothwing which I still laugh about cause Tigerstar(claw) is like don't worry Sasha I will keep my eye on Hawkfrost and Mothwing but he only keeps an eye on Hawkfrost he did the same with Bramblestar as well I even made a running joke that Tigerstar(claw) prefer his sons Bramblestar and Hawkfrost over his daughters Tawnypelt and Mothwing cause he only kept an eye on Bramblestar and Hawkfrost after his death basically the running joke was Tigerstar(claw) only sees his sons Bramblestar and Hawkfrost as strong warriors and he sees his daughters Tawnypelt and Mothwing as weak warriors and I bet if Tadpole was alive Tigerstar(claw) would of kept an eye on him I wonder if Tadpole survived the flood in the den what would his warrior name be and who would his mentor be I imagine Leopardstar would rename him Tadpolekit and when he becomes a apprentice he would be Tadpolepaw and his mentor would probably be Mistystar and his warrior name would end up being something based by the river like Tadpolewater or something if you have any better ideas of how Tadpole would be like as an apprentice of Riverclan or have a better character choice for a mentor to him and have a better warrior name for Tadpole let me know I would love to hear your ideas on who would make a good mentor to Tadpole and what his warrior name would be if Tadpole survived and lived in Riverclan

Very cute, but I will say you missed one. Everyone says it’s retconned, but retcons are lazy. Patchpelt’s kits in order are Longtail (Robinwing), Graystripe (Willowpelt, it was canon), and Swiftpaw and Lynxkit (Goldenflower). Those were all the kits he had. And I am not arguing the Patch/Willow point with anyone, so don’t even try.
It was canon only due to the authors' mistake (they always make a lot of mistakes), and while we can hold it against them for letting it happen in the first place, I dont think we should keep it in the story.
I'm perfectly aware of the whole Greystripe situation though, and I didn't miss it, I intentionally didn't include it

Patchpelt can actually die proud having a living kit (Longtail) and a mate that hasn't broken up with him (Robinwing.)

Honestly when it comes to the canon, I have no clue.
The wiki has no information on that, and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if at that point Erin Hunter even make Patchpelt Swiftpaw's father yet (since I think they were connecting more of the family tree already after they made some story).
Or maybe they did know but simply didn't give it any attention because Patchpelt is just a background character.
Hopefully someone who knows the subject better can explain how it really was. Maybe Erin mentioned some funfacts about this family or something...
The first time Swiftpaw was mentioned was in Fire and Ice (Patchpelt was an elder and Swiftpaw was a young apprentice). The only time he is mentioned as a kitten (Swiftkit) is in Goldenflower speaks - sadly she mentions an elder named Rosetail only - seems like Patchpelt was not really an active father too much but it's still unknown since the Erins didn't even had Swiftpaw's father planned ahead of time - they kept switching it between Tigerstar, Patchpelt and once (according to the wiki talks) Willowpelt and Patchpelt were known as his parents at one point and at some random date even Whitestorm and Willowpelt. I wouldn't go as far as believe the Willowpelt/Patchpelt and Whitestorm one since it comes from 2011/2008 chat.
In 2016 it was finally confirmed that his father was Patchpelt (Vicky Holmes confirmed it according to the wiki).
"When I was a queen nursing Swiftkit, an elder named Rosetail died defending us from a
ShadowClan attack. I would do the same for our nursery kits today" - Goldenflower mentions Swiftkit in Goldenflower speaks.
