Coming back from IMDB and it turns out Robert Townsend have another Black Superhero movie called Up, Up, and Away! (2000). Our boy gave us two black superhero movies and when Black Panther came out, everybody said it's the first black superhero movie in history 😭
I'm surprised this movie isn't more popular considering the STACKED cast that's in it. I would love to see RedEye review some other silly black superhero movies like Blankman (1994) and Steel (1997)

Bro, it wasnt a stacked cast until like 8 years later. Friday, hotel rowanda, and a few other flicks needed to come out. The target audience didnt know 90% of the old heads past Cosby and Jones

I just typed the same thing. Watching this I kept thinking Eddie was going to show up.
Trust my, during our childhood there were only the two Darkness (Eddie and his brother Charlie Murphy)in Hollywood and way later Wesley Snipes got the title. I can't get over it, that it was not Eddie Murphy and this may be my first movie with Don Cheadle in it.

When this movie came out there was such a big deal made about the fact that it was about African-Americans with an African-American superhero. This was Pete Townsend really trying to be a star, not only in mainstream media with superheroes with also with black people. Too bad the movie turned out to be so silly it was hard to be taken seriously. But I remember the discussions that people had before this movie came out

The only reason I know, is because I looked up at my phone as the credits were rolling in this video. And according to a comment posted earlier, another music group played another different gang in MM. It wouldn’t surprise me if there was a whole bunch of other musicians throughout the movie.
