Thanks Soko for this episode. Mnasema it's just a simple PoS but I think he's on to something with his niche customer persona, he even has 4 ready to on board. I think simplicity is what is unique about Bizna Fitty( although he doesn't believe) and referral. Think about how to increase sales for the restaurants, discount system or CRM for the regulars, making a simple PoS add more value. Plus change the name and he should learn how to pitch. I think he might be the one to make the Toast of Africa. I really enjoyed this one
In businesses, dont chase competition, he is right again. Obsesses over customers. Amazon build a business not because they were chasing competition. They were fulfilling customers needs. Period.
Sure I remember one day a client propose how we show the reports. That was our first client. Then my co-founder was like that thing is impossible to implement go back and convince him to use the system the way it is. Then i told him that the client can only use our system if it does what he wants it to period. We spend almost 3 days trying to figure out how to achieve what he had suggested and once we had nailed it ,i went back he was very happy.Actually we had installed an offline POS in his club previously and when i was doing that i told him there was an online system i was building. So i had requested him if i can come and test it in his club. That's how i got a chance to showcase it in the first place. Once he saw i had tailored it to what he wanted he ditched the old system and he even paid us.Immediately he called another guy to tell him how we have provided a good system to him and that's how we got the second and third client.I believe we can only win if we have a good product no amount of marketing will sell a bad product.I was watching a video about a certain founder and he said you don't wanna be in the selling business but in the re-order businesses and i know customers can only re-order or refer if they are satisfied.
This guy is a genius, He is working backwards from customers needs. Most panelist think they are better than the guy standing infront of them. This guy was damn good. He is just starting up.He is targeting a underserved. Some panelist asked wrong questions. The new lady is particularly very clueless. She seem to be very theoretical, she has not run a business in the trenches. She seem to me like she manages a business handed down made already from the father
I watch this channel alot, waiting 1 month for uploads. But the new panelist is not going to manage when Wanjiru take a break. She failed her internship
He could use a skilled UI developer to make that thing look international. When I build something, it just has to look like any other silicon valley product else it's not enough. Its a good start though as long as it works for customers.
Most comments here feel like teh sharks are being harsh, No! What the sharks are saying is true. Guy just needs more exposure and time to grow and if he came back to this tank, he'd be different
They have a point, positioning is very important because before people buy they compare your solution to Microsoft excel and others in the market. Sometimes users will tell you this and then you can add it to your pitch/value Localisation works, since people know you and they know you come from the same town, should not be dismissed Marketing should not be dismissed, it's another animal in itself. Getting one customer yes, getting 1000 customers another animal
I think he got it all wrong. Marketing should actually start way before the product is built. You identify a problem in the market then create a solution for it It is easier to create a product for an existing market than to create a product & looking for customers blindly
Hello i'm the guy. Maybe you didn't watch the whole episode there is somewhere where i said up to to where we are we have built what the customers i have come across want. In my story i also said i was a foreman where i was engaging business people even before i started building that took around 6 months. In another 6 months i was working under another guy who installs offline POS systems like unicenta and that's how i got info to improve what i was building because i could engage with business people and know how an online POS would help them. The clients on board don't even call me,and when i go through the system they are using it 24/7 because most restaurants run through out. And those are the ones giving out my contact info to their friends. Most of the additional features came directly from clients, the early adopters and since business management is almost similar new customers just find those features ready. I'm not answering in bad faith but one thing we need to realize is, the business people especially once they pay for something they somehow become arrogant hence they cant spend a minute with something which doesn't serve them even for a minute. If since June are product is running in their premises it means we are on the right path.
I've noticed most founders come here with a fixed mind, are very rigid in their outlook, and are somewhat resistant to insights or outside-looking-in perspectives from the panel. I think they would benefit more if they approached it as a discussion and not a grilling - Be less defensive, listen more, pause, and not be quick to argue. My thoughts.
Although some developers are fine copying other existing products to carve up part of the market for themselves, I personally think that the wrong way to design a product. Look for the problems they are solving and design+package your features in a better more simpler way. Don't copy their mistakes.
the problem with all software engineer is simple, most of them think their software is more important than the customers opinion, with the attitude i saw on this guy i do not think he talks to his customers at all or new customers for bigger market, yet he is taking about scale scale scale, dude, you spent most of the time taking about the product and its features than you talking about it benefits you customers or your ideal customers, this was like some free promo, but you ruined it
I really don't think we spend alot of time talking about the product than the customers we were moving back and forth. But i feel the product is very important and also i explained how i met my first customers. I have seen founders around who can't share their ideas because they think someone would steal them. That's not our case 6 months before we started building i was talking to business owners when i was in my first job after campus. So on that one you are wrong.Communicating with customers i do frequently. Our product is an in house software so if the customer is not calling either the product is good or he/she is not using it and internal data shows otherwise. The only way to acquire new customers is through convincing them that our software will help their businesses in management hence making them profitable again based on the conversion rate you might be wrong also. On the altitude thing maybe i was wrong i admit that but again i feel sometimes trying to defend your product in front of a panel isn't bad if you have data to back your claims.

In some cases even the panel does not see the vision. Of course you must be open to ideas but only you have the blueprint.
