    Hi Achim
    Excellent ! Excellent !
    Video on cold water diving !
    We use really flexable neoprene garden gloves
    up to a point
    Then we go with dry gloves with a liner
    Every body is different
    Hope the family is ok
    Have a great day!

    Coldwater diving is great. Love it, the challenge is very rewarding. Most fun for me is coldwater diving with oxygen rebreather. The warm breathing gas makes a significant difference in warmth.
    Great tips in this video! I use an extra fleece vest under the undergarment, that makes difference in warmth comfort.

    I like your T shirt. Totally agree on your comments about Argon.

    Hope the family recovers soon.
    Always nice to watch..
    Atm the water in the Netherlands is about 4c and since i cant afford a drysuit yet, a double 7mm is what it is for me... the hands and feet are gone quickly but not a problem.. but good video this is what i need these months :)

    Great video! Nutrition is indeed one of the most important preps in front!
    Some tips & tricks I've learned on the military winter training in Norway: Drink hot tea with alot of sugar in front, and go to the "big" toilet before a coldwater dive. You would be amazed how much energy/heat your body puts in keeping your 'dump' warm lol.
    The multiple layer system is "proven" to be the best way to keep yourself warm under harsh winter conditions. But be aware you take a syntetic piece of clothing close to your body. COTTON kills.....

    Really like the intro….. you don’t have to make explanation. COVID is no joke had it last year my lungs still shot but I take small low stress dives

    Thanks Achim. With good underwear I've gotten pretty comfortable but I'm still struggling with cold feet and hands. Currently using these chemical foot warmers, which help a bit. Thinking about heated gloves and a heated undervest.

    With battery tanks getting smaller, double drysuit connectors getting available and also thin heating products, maybe worth mentioning complete heating redundancy, a thing I will consider when deco times in this country getting longer.

    You could add a piece of surgical tubing thru your glove inner seal to keep the air circulating into your gloves 🧤 🇨🇦

    About argon as dry suit inflation gas: Last year University of Helsinki in Finland published a paper (written by Richard Lundell), where they had measured the impact. And yes, argon was clearly better.
    In addition, dry hoods were not covered at all in this video. In Finland company named Loitokari makes dry hoods, which seal around the face and no neck seal is used at all. Hoods are custom tailored, and they are much warmer than any wet hoods. Many divers say that dry hood is the only way they can avoid ear problems in cold water.

    I use a waterproof ice hood wich is a 2 mm hood that goes over my hood. This works okay for me but when I switched to a polar hood from waterproof I didn't use it anymore, an other benefit is that I don't get cold anymore.
    I also have to add something about the regulators. I managed to freeze a apeks ds4 because the air in my tank was a little bit moist. But I couldn't manage to freeze the cheapest cressi regulator for warm water diving in 2°c water after 2 minutes of purging it with my normal air from my dive club, where we are very strict on maintaining the demoisturizing equipment!

    Another great informative video. Would love to hear your opinion on technically the additional weight required when diving in the cold due to additional undersuit/base layers. Also that have a hugely compressed Drysuit and undersuit…massively reduces the efficiency of the air in the undersuit and keeping warm. Thanks

    About relying the heating, just never do a deco dive you've never done before without added heat. For example, lets say 30 minute dive with 30 minutes deco. You've done it without electric heat and know you can handle it. Added heat just makes it a more enjoyable dive.

    Hi Achim, what content are you referring to regarding piston vs diaphragm? I do not see any video or link posted in the description. I know this video is from a while ago, but I would appreciate the info, which may have been there when the video was originally published.
    Thank you for your videos and knowledge.

    Hey, thank you for all the amazing content.
    Check out the newer generation of heated drysuit undergarments which have the batter underneath the drysuit, maybe these have eliminated some of the failure points you were experiencing in the past?

    Hi Achim,
    did you try merino undergloves and socks in your wetsuit in comparison to quallofil?
    Best wishes from Wuppertal >Lutz

    Talking about safety - side mount is the solution for all mentioned problems. Twin set is not more safe than H-valve config.

    Hey...is for the KISS Sidewinder a heated scrubber necessary? or is a foam insulated one enough (diving all year round in Germany)? Because i want to switch from an eccr to a mccr…of course also depends on the dive…normally I do around 3 hours max…

    I also hope the family gets through it well, but as for you, just expose yourself, no one is going to outrun or hide from C19. It’s here to stay, just get it, get the antibodies and get it over with.

    How do you deal with lips, I always feel cold in this part of my body?

    • @Robert_H_Diver
      @Robert_H_Diver 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe there is a mouth piece or an accessory that covers your lips and helps keep them “warm.”

      Putting a lip shield on your reg can help a bit.

    Anyone know where I can get an ice hood like he talks about here? I had one many many years ago, and it was fantastic. But I cannot find them any more :(

      aquata-shop.de/Kaltwasserhaube-2-5mm-Glatt/ZH1-XXL (there should be dealers in the US as well - or you try amazon)

      The company Waterproof make them in 2mm just google it. Never tried one myself. I use the H1 5/10 sandwich from Waterproof...fantastic hood: waterproof.eu/products/accessories/hoods/

    • @optimustrond
      @optimustrond 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johnmiskin4905 The hood Waterproof makes is not the same. The one Waterproof makes is intended to be used as the outer layer. You don your hood and mas, and then you don the waterproof ice hood. The one achim talks about in this video is an inner hood that you don before your main hood and mask. I dont think the waterproof ice hood will seal very good if you try to use it as an inner hood.

    • @johnmiskin4905
      @johnmiskin4905 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@optimustrond OK thanks for that I presumed with the 2mm it was an inner helmet. As I mentioned I use the H1sandwich which is the best I have used here in the danish cold water seas.
