The GROW Model

The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) Supporting Others video series is designed to empower volunteer and paid staff to provide on the job developmental support to others. The videos can be used in both informal development contexts and formal mentoring, facilitation and educator training programs.
Sir John Whitmore’s GROW model provides a four-step structure to help you lead another person through a developmental process, whether that is in a formal coaching conversation or a quick chat. The GROW model process helps to clarify what the other person is trying to achieve (Goal), identify where they stand now in relation to that aim (Reality), generate some alternatives for achieving their goal (Options), and select an option and develop a plan for implementing it (Way Forward).
