Sue & Megan... you cannot compare a loaded 5 Star athletes UConn team that Stewie played on to win 4 National Championships to a University of Iowa team with the only 5 star athlete Caitlin Clark that brought that team twice to a National Championship that had NEVER been there in the history of the college... Iowa had never even been in the NCAA tournaments very many times much less been brought to the Championship games. Which is really more amazing? That Stewie played with a loaded team with Geno Auriemma coaching that had brought multiple teams that far or that an athlete from Iowa brought a group of Iowa girls to that level?
Exactly my toughts but they won't reply because you are right. They can't help themselves, they need to diminished Caitlin at every cost and Jemille hill hates her
Winning is far more impressive. CC is goods, but reality came for her. She isn’t a god, she choked in the playoffs and I promise you she’d rather be playing on a loaded team than be one of maybe two good players. CC fans really wanna lower the bar to meet her where she’s at instead of letting her develop and it’s sad.
@@1mustardstain UConn offered her, but wouldn't guarantee to start her, so she stayed home. She is not a bench player, but there are many players who accept less than what they are worth to play for Geno. Know the facts before you respond.
Nuance: a subtle difference in or shade of meaning, expression, or sound. So, nuance would be to mention that Breanna Stewart (from NY) played on teams consisting of WNBA all-star level talent in her days with UConn, and won four championships with them, a luxury that Sue Bird (from NY) and Diana Taurasi (from Cali) also enjoyed in their college careers, and maybe that is why this podcast defends this incomplete narrative that certainly lacks any articulated nuance. Nuance would point out that the choice to stay at home and take her local team to the finals two years in a row when the team had no expectations of even making the Final Four before she joined is a massive feather in the cap of Caitlin Clark (from Iowa). The nuance that is not included in this conversation is that Caitlin Clark earned her audience playing at Iowa and did not inherit or expect it from previous generations' excellence. These two women, Breanna Stewart and Caitlin Clark are not alike, because Stewart has never had to play without the support of a super team, has never had to win without being supported by other superstars. Let us begin the nuance there. Imagine how robust the college basketball scene would be if more players stayed home instead of being a lottery draft pick choosing to play a bench role on a super team because the narrative is that legacy can only be earned by winning championships. Juju Watkins (from Cali) is putting USC back on the map in the basketball scene by staying home. If UConn doesn't win a championship this year, then Paige Beukers (from Minnesota) could have won exactly as many championships by staying home and would have grown the sport in the process. Where are the beat writers who are writing about that? This podcast is far from nuanced journalism; this is the absolute placation of personalities that compound the interests of one another because they have a bias towards the alma maters where they won championships and the culture they curated by joining super teams, and they have preference for those paradigms. At the very least, we can be honest about what narratives are truly "bullshit." And for a bit more nuance, the 2005 Portland Pilots team that Megan Rapinoe (from Cali) won a championship with was pretty damn stacked as well. Steph Curry (from North Carolina) never won a championship with Davidson, but he has cemented himself as a legend.
Happy birthday, Legend! OK talk about a deep dive, Jemele is the truth! Such profound insight on what's going on and how it is distorted from plane to plane. A lot of what she said personally calls me to action. We'll see... Great show, as usual!

Social media is horrible for all the isms... athletes, politicians, actors, musicians, are ALL targeted. This is not just a WNBA problem. It definitely is a troll and bots issue. So unfair that the WNBA athletes are saying it is coming from the Caitlin Clark fan base. That is so opposite in what Caitlin Clark or her family have lived their lives. So opposite of "Iowa Nice" that most of Iowa has lived their lives. I have lived my entire life in Iowa and very proud of the fact of no racism problems that Minnesota and the southern states have been known for... after the 2023 Championship game Caitlin Clark went through death threats and horrible social media posts claiming she is really a man and they did photo shop on her photos with an adam's apple. Horrible posts writing about how ugly she was and made up posts that do not even want to write it here. Someone made AI photos of her naked. This was not coming from an Iowa fan base. Caitlin had to have security. But Iowa coach and Caitlin handled it correctly by having the Iowa team get off social media and NOT try to fight the trolls online. Angel Reese in college and DiJonai Carrington and Alyssa Thomas did the opposite and fed into it and wrote things back and now DiJonai Carrington and NaLyssa Smith even make skits to make fun of the eye gouge to Caitlin. All that did was have the trolls go after Angel Reese and others because they get a reaction out of them and get people to read these trolls and make them feel more important.

Happy Bday Sue...!! I have great respect for you guys. However, I would really like to hear your thoughts on a couple things you didn't address... Oh and BTW, I love Stewie, her attitude, the way she plays etc, But..... My question is,,,, Would Breanna have won 4 championships at Iowa? Is it likely Uconn would have won 4 championships with CC playing there? I think CC would have won those same 4 rings, if she had played with the same teams that Breanna played with.... I think the only reason Iowa made it to the Final 4, (TWICE), is CC... Would Breanna have even gotten Iowa to the Final 4? I don't think that Breanna, esp in college could have dished out near as many assists as CC did... Even now, it seems clear to me that CC is the superior passer. Love to hear all y'alls thoughts on this....

Hey Sue while you and your fan club are puffing up Breanna's championships can just cover her teammates all those four years and compare them to Iowa who had one 5 star in Caitlin, Kate Martin 3 star, Monika Czinano 3 star? I mean if you really want to make a fair comparison. How many championships do you think Breanna would have won had she played for Iowa? It's a fair request and a fair question.
So you are saying bc CC didnt win a NCAA champ she's not as good as a low level player who barely plays but won a championship bc she was on a stacked team ia better bc she won a championship. I use to like you until you play into this shit. You play into discrediting CC then promote her and hug her after games and back to. discredit her. So pathetic, you can't just stand up against the others and cow tow to the rest of the old guard. Lost credibility with me. She's too good and nice for this league. She does nothibg but uplift you all and you all shit on her. Hope one day she gets tired of dealing with all this and leaves and the WNBA goes doqn in flames.
The reason you got the charter flights was because of all the money CC brought. They saw a way to pay for it. It seems like the players don’t understand economics. The players also need to know how to manage their social media accounts. They could have an outward facing account that is professional and managed by the league and then a personal account that does not open to trolls. Also the players themselves should avoid responding to trolls and trolling. Respectfully Sue, the idea that college championships are the bar for wnba is hard to see. Breanna, as a vet, was third in voting for the all WNBA first team and Caitlin, as a rookie, was fourth and CC brought in a million new fans (variety of races and genders, NBA fans and college basketball fans). Cc might not have college championship rings but she sure has something.
@@memoir02 Don’t kid yourself. Caitlin had a grassroots fan base that built up during her years at Iowa. The Iowa women’s basketball team went from a nearly empty arena to packed arenas at home, then packed stadiums on the road, and then astronomical growth in TV viewership. The media was always behind on the story. The media paid attention because of the fans, not by versa.
That is a false dilemma fallacy. It is BOTH because of CC's popularity AND the fruit of decade-long fight for equal investment by the players--you need BOTH ingredients for this to happen. You all seeing this as black and white is not helpful to anyone, including CC herself, whom I have mad respect for and has done nothing wrong. I guess this is how fans sabotage their own public figure unintentionally. Not good.
happy birthday sue! love you all so much, but the framing of Stewie vs. Clark's college runs is a bit unserious.... UConn always gets top recruits and Iowa doesn't, so one of their jobs was a bit easier. Clark far exceeded expectations for her college career (her goal was to get to the final four, unlike Stewie's which was to get 4 titles), and she's the NCAA leading scorer, so I definitely think she should be in college GOAT talks
A simple way to illustrate your point would be to ask casual women’s college basketball fans to name Stewie’s college teammates and Caitlin’s, given Stewie’s college years were a decade ago and Clark’s last year.
Happy birthday 🎉 Thanks for all of your insights about the WNBA and women’s sports. From what I can tell, my sense of things, y’all are the best source of that level of information. Very interesting. I hope the expansion of the WNBA doesn’t result in the “professionalization” of girls AAU and women’s college basketball, like what has happened in men’s basketball.
Can you expand a little bit on what you mean? I agree with you but I’ve never been able to put a word to it. I’m quit a few years removed from AAU so I’m interested if you have some more up to date knowledge about something I’ve started noticing too.
I am interested if the ladies think the players should lock out if a deal isn't reached for revenue sharing a substantial salary increase noone should make under 250k based on the tv deal which ahould have been more, I'm with Cheryl Miller should been between 8 -10 billion. I personally thought they should have lock out in the last cba for revenue sharing, salary and charter flight.
Sue wasn't explaining what she meant by player development. Megan kept trying to get her to be more specific but she wouldn't elaborate. She seemed to take for granted that we all have the insider knowledge that she does. Like Megan thought it might mean access to facilities and trainers year-round but then Sue said we already have that.
Interesting conversation ... Does the W need to provide guidance to players on how to handle multimedia space? The players the handle it best do not engage in the banter or engage the bots but those players that do may need guidance in how to respond, recognize or handle the bots ... Just a thought ...
Just move to Mastodon! I don't understand why people are still supporting Elon Musk by staying on Twitter. Official accounts should at least have cross-posted on both platforms by now.
Enjoyed the interview today Jenelle ? Can you interview Stevie snd Phe together about playing in the finals against each other and on USA together. Also unrivaled
this is the first league to publicize every hate message they get, ever heard of the Streisand effect....if breanna stewart went to iowa would she had been in the finals even once? context matter
I have been flagging a lot of you tube with “not interested” when the story is a grievance that is not actually in the story. For example, an accidental poke in the eye with a 30 min narrative saying something else.
Two things that I've persistently been irritated by: 1) The non fans poking at the league on X and TH-cam. Sorta just gassing a fire for subscribership, clicks. Kinda like what Jemele was saying about the msm. To me, everyone has been horrendous. 2) The absolute, 100% capping from vets, and knee-jerk white-knighting being done. Every individual, bad-faith actor, shit stirer, clout chaser, etc., who happens to blk in an 80% blk league, has been wholly shielded by these two and others. It's service to something, to bob knows what... but it's a service. And it'll continue to be pushed back on. But ya'll will have more bs to talk about.
Of course there's going to be a dilution of talent. If there were only two teams then most of the current WNBA players (and this would apply to every pro league) would not be in the league. A dilution of talent is difficult for a fan to notice. Apparently - and this might be wrong - but there was a year in the six team NHL where there were NO rookies. None. And how often has the WNBA cut a first round draft choice in training camp? When that happens it seems to me that there's plenty of room for dilution. The NBA, NFL and NHL are both happily diluted and happily thriving.
Jemele: do not scrutinize blindsided hip-checks at full sprint. Now, I've never seen that sht in a bball game since Pistons v Celtics in the 80s. And I'm League Passed all the way up.
@TF-vb9us we're going to be here for a minute, Meg, Sue alt account... whoever I'm talking with. These queens have agency and culpability like anyone else.
What the heck Megan? You're just gonna sit there and agree with Jamele. So some lady footballer wins a couple titles with UNC or some powerhouse that's comparable to you winning multiple world cups? How many titles could you have won with Iowa, Sue. Why does Jamele's opinion matter anyway. She's just a bitter hater who keeps moving the bar. ESPN had some budgetary constraints so her and fake spectacles guy had to go. Bitter woman, CC made the WNBA relevant and gave new life to your career. Some day you might mature enough to recognize.
Happy birthday 🎉 This UConn sandbox narrative is so non productive for this league and I believe truly a turnoff for fans..but you do what you gotta do, I guess.
stacked systems and schools don't equal greatness. It's a great accomplishment, but not greatness. That's why college championships are just background noise until you get to the pros Sue is way off…

Obv I’m gayer than I thought cause I replayed their little kiss at least 2 times. 😂. Happy birthday to the GOAT…feel the love🎉🎉🎉
🎉🎉🎉🎉 happy birthday sue
Enjoyed the interview today Jenelle ?
Can you interview Stevie snd Phe together about playing in the finals against each other and on USA together. Also unrivaled
Happy Birthday 🎉🎉Sue
Love me some Jemele Hill❤
53:57 omg yes!
We’re still waiting on a Cleveland Rockers come back into the league!!!
this is the first league to publicize every hate message they get, ever heard of the Streisand effect....if breanna stewart went to iowa would she had been in the finals even once? context matter
I have been flagging a lot of you tube with “not interested” when the story is a grievance that is not actually in the story. For example, an accidental poke in the eye with a 30 min narrative saying something else.
When will the WNBA stop letting the NBA pay they're tab!?!?!?!?
You guys are too cute
As much as I've watched the WNBA, I do not remember the Portland Fire....
Two things that I've persistently been irritated by:
1) The non fans poking at the league on X and TH-cam.
Hill is a joke, got fired officially for racist and sexist comments on air. What a great addition to podcasts..😅
😅
Racist and sexist such as what? Sincere question.
Its a team game
44… Lewis Hamilton and Aubrey Griffin’s number 😯 hbd !

Doesn't this song have reminiscent vibes of Sue's beautiful voice 😅
We say the same thing with male
Jemele: do not scrutinize blindsided hip-checks at full sprint.
Now, I've never seen that sht in a bball game since Pistons v Celtics in the 80s.
And I'm League Passed all the way up.
There’s literally hours and hours of footage on TH-cam of overly aggressive NBA play compilations 😂
@TF-vb9us dooood, not full sprint, full-body hip-checks.. from the blind side. Get real.
@@JethroGibbs85capping like your life depends on it, huh little bro ?
@TF-vb9us dnt be mad... hey, we aren't going anywhere. When one of your queens is foul, the world is going to smell it.
@TF-vb9us we're going to be here for a minute, Meg, Sue alt account... whoever I'm talking with. These queens have agency and culpability like anyone else.
imagine if the wnba had a commissioner of color… imagine how representation and support would grow, from the inside outward.
So hire Jemele! WNBA needs to hire her asap!!!!!!!
She had a black eye
Jemele Hill always with great context, happy birthday Sue
Again telling people how to spend money
Happy birthday 🎉
This UConn sandbox narrative is so non productive for this league and I believe truly a turnoff for fans..but you do what you gotta do, I guess.
Who's truth?
@megan What you want is a chief wokeness officer
Undeniable
Oh hello the sleepy cult. Don't worry Grandpa, we won't wake you up, go back to sleep.
@@est9949 another Troll ! Yay!
@@mofelata LOL that's it, just calling anyone who disagree with you a troll? Classic sleepy cult behavior.
Sheryl Swoopes.. you are a journalist and she is not
The irony of Jemele just said how some times you compromise adds for a pay check & LOREAL IS THEIR SPONSOR #boycottloreal 🇵🇸
stacked systems and schools don't equal greatness. It's a great accomplishment, but not greatness. That's why college championships are just background noise until you get to the pros Sue is way off…
Its low becuase thiings are one sided
Eye jab by DiJonai Carrington into Caitlin Clark's eye. Caitlin got a black eye.
