- In today’s video we will discuss how the Bassmaster Classic went down, my overall impression on how the industry is shaping out, and discuss all the hate towards anglers in the Classic for using a LEGAL METHOD OF FISHING. The extreme hate is running rampant and it’s about time we stand up to it. It’s disgusting the amount of anglers trying to discredit people like Hamner and thinking it’s making themselves look cool. We break it all down today. Don’t miss it!

I personally think live technology is a step over the line, when it come to technology and fishing. I hate it. But i think its crazy for ppl to say he should have an asterisk next tobhis name. He followed the rules and everyone else is allowed to use it as well.... The classic seemed to still be mainly dominated by ffs, from what I witnessed. Maybe im wrong, but about maybe 10 to 15 percent of the anglers were not using ffs? Most of the guys seemed to be pretty much only scoping. There will be some tournaments where its like that, but for the most part, its going to be mainly ffs from now on. In my opinion.
Completely agree. I feel like they need to have limits on it, but regardless the same people complaining will still come up with more excuses.
What cracks me up is this has went in forever, the guys before flashers complained about flashers. The same with 2d, mapping and side imaging, the only thing different now is social media and they can all go there and cry about it. Sports are always evolving and either you keep up or get cut simple as that.

@@AndrewUpshawFishing I’d like to see them put as much effort into getting good with FFS as they do crying about it. With all there knowledge in all other areas of fishing they’d be hard to beat. Hell case I point is Wheeler, he jumped in and learned it early on
But I do think it needs to be limited to 1 maybe 2 on the trolling motor/ front of the boat
Its amazing how hard that kid fished and with confidence. Congrats to Hamner. Been amazed watching FFS haters complain, but Cherry won a classic...had it, Christie won a classic, used it in that classic. Gussy killed it last year using it. It's not new, just younger guys are hungry and know it's a tool and when to use it. These guys are all pros, do your job and catch your best 5. Fish how you want, but correct learn new approaches or get left behind

why do they not care about putting 5 fish in a livewell all day then 2hr drive to tulsa to weigh 2hr drive back to grand to release if they even make back to grand.get on that before worrying about ffs.

Andrew, watching bass competition angling with electronics is like watching 'ice fishing' without the ice (or the ice shanties). The clue should be ice fishing as a TV spectacle never took off. And there are probably good logical reasons why.
I viewed an historical film about the Blackberry phone technology recently, and when that arrived it was marketed and branded as a status symbol. Executives who held meetings in boardrooms started to 'ban' blackbery devices from meetings, crack-berries they called them (people couldn't focus in meetings). There was zero etiquette around early handheld tech, and FFS on boats is the same.
Then stop watching and quit crying in public.

A while back I think it was Rick Clunn who said after watching pro anglers crush them on live using ffs that he learned more in the last 30 mins about fish behavior and the course of their migration then he has in the last 30 years... Thats a pretty powerful statement coming from that man in my opinion. There was lots of guys who tried to make ffs work for them in the classic but failed so to say Justin Hamner needs an asterisk next to his name on this win is laughable... Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!

I don't understand all the complanig. I'm 61 years old and have Active target and really enjoy learning how to use it. I still beat the bank alot but I'm fascinated by the FFS

Grand was at 742. If it would have been at the old normal of 745, it probably would have been won on the bank. All the good shallow targets where high and dry. I just went Sunday and bought the 126 and Lvs 34.. have no clue on how to use it, but I'm damn sure going to try and figure it out. I mean if Todd can figure it out, I think I can. Lol.

Hammer followed the rules and came away with A Classic Win and deserves everything that goes with the win. At that level you choose what you put on your boat and how you fish. People whining about his win are pathetic losers that will never fish at that level. Any pro complaining about FFS 😢 me a river. I fish out of a kayak, all the whiners on here would make me think I couldn’t catch a bass without a $100,000 bass boat. Stay in your lane, live your own life and let others do the same. Congrats to him for the win, it’s not his fault that FFS is allowed in tournaments and it’s the way are young anglers are learning to fish now, sad but true. Hank Parker nailed it with his comments, you can disagree all you want but this FFS is a huge step backwards for this sport. I’ll say it once again, thank god I wasn’t born any later than I was and learned from hard work, time on the water and school of hard knocks and from anglers that had much more experience then myself. I’ll keep fishing the way I have been and will be just as happy with a fraction of the fish I might catch with FFS, and that’s all I got ta say bout that.

🤔agreed, Rick had some good points as well, but the correlation that Hank made in regards to other sports rejecting certain advancements in technology that would forever change previous records and accomplishments can not be ignored. We all will never see eye to eye on this, everyone is entitled to there own opinion, the future will tell us how this all ends up.

Hamner earned his win. There is no doubt about that. I think the only drawback to the FFS deal and having 30-to 50k in electronics in the boat, is the younger high school kids who want to fish, yet their parents don't have the means to spend that much will get discouraged and quit fishing. Remember back many moons ago it used to be the kids whose parents bought them the nice cars and trucks and then others had the beaters? Well now it's bass boats and trucks. Had 3 kids probably 17 or 18 pull into Bass Pro last week each pulling a 21 ft Bass Cat with 5 graphs, towed by a 80k truck. They walked in like they owned the place. Got a kick out of it. Unfortunately, they will not truly appreciate what they have. With that said I don't have an issue with parents trying to get their kids the best they can get but I would hope they teach them values and humility also.
I don’t hate it , I just don’t want it in Professional Angling . And there is allot of pro FFS people giving anti FFS allot of grief As well . I’m retired and love steaming the tournaments , but they could go away tomorrow and it wouldn’t stop my obsession of bass fishing! I fish allot of less than 1000 acre lakes , and I must say it is different watch anglers pick off crappie One by one in the middle of summer ! Your statement that fish and game has bigger issue to deal with might not be the case . Was fish and game so busy when several states banned or limited hooks on A-Rigs ??? I think BASS should go to catch and release like they did at Fork . Especially in the Summer . Bass is peeing on peoples head and telling them it’s raining say the summer fish are not dying for delayed mortality. Btw are all tournaments on Fork catch and immediate release that are not in the slot ?
The hate is horrible. The myth that these younger guys don't know how to flip a jig shallow or crank riprap is down right comical when they spend around 300 days a year on the water.
How do you put asterisk on something within the rules agreed upon? Guys comparing this to steroids in baseball is stupid and it need to stop. BIG difference when steroids were NEVER legal. Nobody is talking about doing that to Christies classic either because I guess him and Cherry are somehow grandfathered in even though they used it to win classics?
Love the fact that you guys don't care about your fans enjoyment watching live tournaments. Many of you short sighters, will be getting a real job.

As a fan of watching Bass Master I can’t watch fisherman standing back to the camera head down watching their scene. Sorry just my take on it. Maybe I am just too old now. That being said I do enjoy your videos.

The bigger picture here the people aren’t understanding is this is the start of AI, we’re gonna be battling this stuff in the future and all the technology changes just because something comes out doesn’t mean it’s better

Every tournament from here on out will be won by FFS. Sure, you can get a top 10 not using it, but you will not win. I like using FFS. I’m not a hater just talking reality.
I'm not a live scope guy but you can't hold anything against hamner.he followed the rules that are in place and outfitted everybody else with the same equipment. Congratulations to him. He seems like a great guy.
I don't minf FFS at all. However...and slightly off topic. I can't believe no one has stepped up to have a non FFS trail. Seems there is a need for it and seems like they could get some big names involved. I think NPFL should do it and see how many big names they could attract. Not to mention the attention it would get by making that step and not allowing it.
Lately I’ve been wondering why the guys complaining saying that this eliminates their decades of experience don’t try to utilize this and combine it as another tool that could move their tradition methods even more effective. If you know that fish *should* be setting up in a certain manner based on the current conditions…why wouldn’t you want to be able take a quick scan and eliminate the spots that are only holding short fish or fish that won’t help your limit? When under the gun wouldn’t you want to be able to fish as efficiently as possible with your available tools?
FFS catching fish is exactly the same as spotlighting deer at night. It should be illegal and banned from tourneys. Whether you believe it or not, ffs is ruining our bass fishing sport.
At least some have an open view of the FFS issue. Yeah, it can be said all tournaments moving forward will be won using it. Duh, all pros who are relevant have it in use, therefore it will always play into a win. That being said, not all are expressly using it and know nothing else about bass fishing.
Of course it doesn't, he was using a method available to every other angler in the tournament. The FFS controversy will disappear in a generation once all anglers have fished with it from day one. Great pillar to post victory by Hamner in what was a less than stellar tournament due to the weather keeping the fish off the feed.
But the rules demand that you, can't, not use it. I stopped watching. I can't take fifteen minutes of it anymore.

The guys doing all the crying never targeted the bass that the ffs guys are, and they most likely will never be talented enough to do it anyway. Most dont even tournament fish or have boats.
I don’t want to say it but it seems to me a certain group of people are against ffs or at least the most vocal about it. Those are mainly the ones that vote for crazy outcomes! That is all I am saying!
It's not the people that you know that hate it, you should be concerned about, but how many thousands of your fans hate it.
Congrats to Hamner! He fished his butt off. The fact is this… you had both strategies in play. Some did really well with FFS and some did really well fishing shallow without FFS. Some didn’t do worth a crap with FFS and some didn’t do worth a crap fishing shallow on the bank. Some guys fished both styles. It was a great tournament with a lot of different styles of fishing. I actually enjoyed watching it. Great video.

Adapt or Die. Sad commentary. I'm in my early 60's, and have seen it all from flashers to FFS. No other technology has made me feel the way this technology has. Completely knocked the wind out of my tournament ambitions. I'm not a "hater", just an old guy missing the old day's.
I miss a lot of the old days. The “unknown” was a fun aspect of it. Now it just lets things be known a little more

I watched it and think he missed the point on the young anglers. These young anglers have learned more through social media. We older anglers didn't have that advantage
I think they need to get with the electronic companies and limit the beam to 25ft. A restrictor plate for competition. I think that would even it out. The one transducer or screen limit won’t change anything.

Do you own a boat?
Have you paid a boaters entry fee in the past 5 years?
Have you fished with livescope and caught a fish using it?
I think the percentage of guys answering yes to all 3 of those questions would be incredibly rare for those that complain the most.
Personally, I love FFS. For guys that work 50-60 hours per week (most weekend bass anglers) and don't have a ton of time to prefish, livescope is the weekend anglers best friend. Finally you can compete offshore with the guys that can somehow spend 20 hours per week idling the lakes in prefish 🤣
I haven't watched a lot of bass fishing in the last 5 or 6 years, just been out in a kayak with a small Lowrance unit or bank fishing for the most part. I just happened across the Classic this weekend and was blown away by FFS and then kinda heard about the backlash/controversy.
After checking into it, i think the biggest issue is the price if entry into the technology keeps the every day fisherman out of it. Then i watched a tour pro's video where he showed some guys have 4 units at the console and 4 units on the front deck and the every day fisherman thinks "thats what i gotta do to find bass? I can't afford all of that."
I don't think for one second that the tournament agencies are gonna ban FFS, but i do think at some points they are gonna put a limit to the number of units you can have on the boat. Just my 2 pennies.
The setups with 4-5 transducers and 6-7 graphs are pure overkill. Wheeler himself said he could do 90%+ of what he does with a pair of lowrance 9s with a single active target unit up front, and even as a guy with a bunch of screen on my boat is agree. Its diminishing returns.

Man it's always been this way,I can remember when sonar went from gray scale to color,it was harder to compete with guys who had color them there was side scan,there again harder to compete against it,either keep up with technology or get left behind,like it or not,its that simple,and congratulations to Hamner and funny thing is he put on a clinic wire to wire against the best that had every opportunity to use all their technology and still couldn't catch him,people need to stop bitchin!!!!that kid doesn't deserve that,great video Andrew and good luck to ya buddy
Hamner definitely deserved this win. This guy truly worked his butt off to get where he is. I remember him weighing fish back in 2018 in FLW events. That said i am neither with/or against FFS its for sure a cool option, Its truly adapt or die. I dont understand why there is so much hate in all honesty, If you are an angler who fish the upper escalon of bass derbies you argument should be should be wait a minute we can go look for fish in real live time but we cant throw an A rig??? mind you i never throw an A-rig nor do i own one, buss bass/mlf officals are partially as bad as the government when it comes to decisions. Seriously think about that, you cant throw a lure within legal hook limits but you can scope bass real-time. Thats mind Boggling. That said i do believe there are a handful of open,elite,toyota, or invitational anglers that would definitely struggle to compete without it.

I don't hate it, as Randy Blaukat does, but I do feel it is the "bridge too far" for the upper levels (Elite, BPT, and AAA) of professional fishing. I equate it to aluminum bats in baseball and souped up golf balls and clubs in golf. MLB and the PGA, R&A don't allow those advances to be used, and I feel PROFESSIONAL fishing should be the same way. Just my opinion. Full disclosure, I have an LVS 34 on my BassCat Cougar, but, I'm no pro and don't pretend to be.
I don’t think you’re wrong either! But I don’t think it is going to change in time to save the anglers who refuse to adapt. At best, it goes away in 3 years. But how many will quit/retire before then?

Congrats to Hamner and the remainder of the anglers. The weights of the best FFS guys were 25% more than the best Shallow water guys. Old school fishing is over and this tournament proved it. The industry will welcome many brand new anglers over the next 5 years. It will also lose all of the old school guys that have spent years perfecting their trade. Computers replaced certain trades, and AI will replace even more.
I don’t think old school fishing is over per se, but I do think people have adapted and gotten better. I do think there will be a big group of new guys coming that will be even better than the ones we have now

I think Bassmaster could save a lot of money on their next video game. Instead of the realistic underwater view of your bait and the fish and the cover. They just need a 2d livescope screen with blobs moving around.

The biggest issue I have with FFS is during the spawn you can now target the deep spawners and haul them off to the weigh in, instead of letting them do their thing. I don't fish competitively so I do not have a real reason to have one.

@@AndrewUpshawFishing The deep highland reservoirs where I am from, it does. FFS is to the bass spawn is what side imaging is to the bluegill spawn. If you know how to use it and look at it, you can locate every deep spawning fish.
Go watch hank parker talk about ffs and tell me if you think its still good for our sport.. all you guys need to wake up snd realize its horrible for our sport, horrible for our fisheries, and just as bad for the people who simply want to watch some real pro bass fishing. Go and find the bass off of instinct, flip a jig, throw a topwater, do something cool. Throw the techno unit in the trash.
I think a guy can see a spot and tell if fish would be there. The new sonar let's you see them. Telling the difference in species is next, I bet.
I’ve heard a few things. But honestly knowing the species is irrelevant. The good ones know what they are without it. The crazy tool would be if it could tell you the estimated weight

100% Andrew tbis is Mike and we stayed at the BEST Western in Flowood MS Ross Barnett Open. Anyway, I agree with you 100%. I just purchased Active Target 2 so get on the bus or get left behind! I have 47 years of fishing and from flashers to sidescan now FFS. We have come along way! Times still require that other experience but now findin better quality fish is here!

I see it both ways. FFS is both a curse and blessing. I think it’s great it can help catch more fish and differently. I honestly don’t enjoy to fish that way and thought watching this classic was one of the worst I can remember (boring). I will say that watching the guys on Fork and in the Classic and having one , if your a tourney angler you absolutely need it. If you don’t learn and use it , you’re going to be an often $ donor. Andrew, I agree that the only way it gets banned is if it is seen influencing fish populations and that could be any species. Everyone has an opinion on it. Some will put an asterisk there and some won’t boo hoo for both sides. I am just going to go fishing and not worry about it.
I thought it was a fun one. But I didn’t watch much Live due to working the event. But the thrill of hooking up with a big one in the Classic is a feeling that is immeasurable
@@AndrewUpshawFishing I watch every year and this one was kind of a sleeper. I would have preferred being at the expo vs watching it. A number of people in the industry kept saying to change the game and FFS has, like it or hate it.
That bridge loss is quite tragic. Justin stomped the Classic.

Every one of the top finishers and maybe everyone period were using ffs. They just were not off shore. They would not have made the number of casts to a particular piece of structure without it. Offshore ffs is last years method. Technology has advanced to allow for it to be used shallow. So yes, they were using ffs.

@AndrewUpshawFishing Go back and watch. They were using ffs to see the attitudes of the fish. As I said, ffs sonar has gotten better, and the fishermen have adapted. They are no longer just using it to catch fish off shore.

It’s funny, for 40 years (or more) electronics have been the key to a ton of wins. Just because the graph is different, doesn’t change the fact that we have been in an evolving cycle since then.

Was about as boring as it gets for me and when I have the option of switching over to opening weekend of the NCAA tournament it’s really a no-brainer……unlike fishing that sport hasn’t changed much over the years due to technology. Officiating has, athletes have, strategies have, but as a whole not so much
@@tadmyers5872 - Basketball has changed more than any other Major Sport - 3 Point Line, Shot Clock, Not allowed to defend, etc.... Baseball & Football have ALL changed to allow more scoring, cause that's what the Fans want. At least that's what the Leagues tell us :) Have a good day!
@@lawrencemaruna7458 outside of instant replay and say the shot-clock none of those changes were technology driven. And none of those changes are anywhere near as drastic or impactful as FFS. I’m sorry, being able to see your lure and the fish react to said lure in real time is about as far from “sportsmanlike” as you can get

FFS needs to be left to the weekend and for fun anglers ., we keep it . All tournaments need to ban it . A pro should not need it to be successful. Our rights as fun fishermen comes before tournament fishermen.
Bummed I missed you at the Classic. I was only there on Sunday. I feel like there should be a compromise. Use it at practice only or some derbies with some without. I don't trust anyone who is certain on this issue, and I can't stand people who just shit on people who win with it. It's a terrible way to make an argument. It sucks that we've seen so many jackasses dismising an awesome victory. Hamner is a hammer anyway you slice it.
