  • In today’s show I touch on what’s been going on with me then dive deep in the Zaldain/Lowen/Bassmaster Rookie situation. What’s going on behind the scenes in the industry right now is pretty crazy and hopefully I don’t piss off too many people with my take. I do believe we have to figure out how not to have as much divide as we currently do, and it’s going to take a JOINT effort to figure out a middle ground. Professional fishing is crumbling right before our eyes.

    Trey’s response to Swindle when he went to him man to “man”, tells me all I need to know about that kid. He had the opportunity to go to the tournament director himself and didn’t do it. And has a smart ass response to a veteran who’s helped build the platform this kid is fishing in. You think that kid would self-report a violation he made inadvertently, like so many guys have done in the past?? No chance. Have no respect for that. Don’t care how good he can ‘scope. Definitely didn’t help the rookie class.

    You NAILED IT! That Zaldain/Lowen video rubbed me the wrong way. I left them a comment saying that too. Bill basically accused some of the rookies of cheating. I'm a 53 year old- old schooler. I'm not anti FFS. I embrace the changes. There is a changing of the guard in the PRO ranks and the old timers are having a hard time with it.
    Those type podcasts do nothing but divide the Tournament fishing community even further.
    Who knows, maybe the called UNION meeting of all the anglers will straighten these ROOKIES out. 😉😁 (That's a little sarcasm for those that don't get it.)

    I just have to say that I truly enjoyed watching the tournament on the St. John's river. We got to see what happens when scoping isn't very useful. They scopers were nowhere to be seen. What most people are missing is most of those guys are single thus it allows them to spend copious amounts of time on the water. It's similar to Malcolm's Gladwells' ten thousand hour rule. Many of the elders of the sport always said nothing beats time on the water and most of the rookies are showing that's what it takes. Hours and hours, honing their craft.

    It’s not the rookie thing, the FBD thing or the FFS thing that’s turning me off. It’s the so called fans of the sport and the constant complaining about any and EVERYTHING these days plus the big names that keep stoking the fire with posts and podcasts for views, clicks and comments that are turning me off. The majority of us fish because we love it and compete not only for the competition but the fellowship that comes with it. Take the fellowship out of it and have me fish and surround myself with negativity and it’s no longer fun.

    Its all sour grapes! Every elite angler on the Elites had that same window to gather info prior to stating their season.
    These rookies ran tha gauntlet of 9 tourneys against 200+ boat fields,and made it through. You got the best out there ....and now they are Elite anglers. I would say that BASS achieved their intention.
    Heck all the rookies now only have to fish against half as big of field than the opens had. Thats a boost compaired to what they were used to. FFS is here to stay. 30 yrs ago. I asked myself why couldnt they mount a Vexilar transducer to face sidways.....🤔and here we are. My 2 cents

    • @Justin.Hawkins
      @Justin.Hawkins หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      No the elites did not have the same window to gather info as the rookies. I think that’s the main complaint. Because they weren’t qualified for the elites when the schedules came out. So some of the anglers doing well in the standings who may have had a good chance to make it could gather info since the schedule was out and they hadn’t qualified at that point.

    Old guys are jealous that these young guys have nothing to do but fish. Let's run and spend a month at lake before it's off limits. It's the reason most anglers performance peaks in their early 30s. Then come kids, and responsibilities that keep them from being on the water 300 days a year. Couple new tech with being on the water 300 plus days a year, no wonder it's tough to beat these young guys.

    This is a great take. Everyone is entitled to their opinion on Technology and where they want to see the sport go. When grown men’s egos cause them to personally attack these successful, young, articulate and hard working young anglers, it makes it difficult to support them. I’m honestly cool with forward facing, and I’m one that prefers to not use it, I’m good with it, just been an extra tool for me to target structure and fish I would have missed on spots that I would have fished without it. My issue is there has to be a limit, like I think where it’s at is as far as it should go bc I promise you in 10 years from now if nothing is done you will literally be able to see exactly what fish is what, and what size that fish is, hell AI will probably tell you , guaranteed, and that is 100% fact. That’s not fishing, there is a reason now you see on any tournament level young anglers are doing great. Also one livescope on front and limit on screens has to be done at bare minimum on professional level, that includes the minor leagues if you will ie opens and etc. I hope one league steps up and does this, would be an amazing step. You shouldn’t be called a pro bc you have or can afford an electronic device to catch fish.

    • @Michdave700
      @Michdave700 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      So true on beware of the future technologies! We will definitely see increases in the cost, the capabilities and the potential individual customization for those that can spend for it. Imagine a boat designed with multiple flush transducer pockets around the hull, and the hull designed so that a lake can be mapped at higher speed than now for large fish, aided by AI to interpret the data, sort it and list the waypoints of the top 10 biggest bass. With transducers all around the system can alert you when another fish above a selected size shows up behind you. Forget those silly transducers on a stick! At some point they will add separate computers to sort the sonar data, and professionals will hire programmers to refine the data even better. This ride will continue, guaranteed, so get ready to pick when you decide jump off the train of rising cost and technology.

    This is the question I’d liked asked: specifically to the Elites that are upset at Rookies, who did not operate in the grey area, but well within the rules of getting information before officially making the Elite series. What is the difference from what the Elite series pros have done FOREVER when it comes to getting info from a buddy before the day 2 cut is complete. It happens every single tournament, and you hear them thank their buddy who didn’t make the 50 or 10 cut, on stage! In most instances the guy who knows he isn’t going to make the cut gives whatever juice he has to his buddy before “officially” being eliminated from the tournament.
    I’ll argue all day long, that info, good or bad, is irrelevant (he didn’t make the cut, he’s not on anything) is way more valuable than the 5-8 month old stuff gained by the rookie coming out of the opens.
    I’ll say this…. I believe the rule change for opens EQ anglers getting info on lakes once the Elite schedule is out is the right move. But, if that’s the case, then the Elites need to look in the mirror and hold themselves to the same level of integrity when it comes to operating in the “grey” area and receiving info from guys they know aren’t going to make the cut…. Almost impossible to police!

    I think some of the veterans should maybe talk to some of the rookies off to the side, you know don't try and call them out in public with an attitude toward them, because how they treat and act toward them now could really effect the way their attitudes are years to come. They will see the way they were treated and probably do the same to rookies when they become the veterans of the sport. I'd say if they did talk to them they would find out that alot of them are scared and uncertain about things and just need to know that some of the older anglers are there for them instead of feeling like everyone is against them. But what do I know.

What about the kayakers and small boats are loading up their kayaks and 34 graphs you think that’s gonna be great for the fishingagain, I want to see fisherman on lakes, not tech, geeks, and electronics and then toss over two lure and start ripping them

    You should have stopped back there at Hemphill BBQ instead of going to Brookeshires. LoL!! The only comment I have is about your comment of learning to fish next to other boats by watching them do it. I know it happens but you and I also know often the guys agree to share a spot. Obviously that is not always the case as shown with Randy Haynes and Jason Lambert in that FLW tournament. Or even the KVD and Ike “you’re not part of the community” incident. In the end, they are all there to make a living fishing and should not treat the rookies like freshmen coming into high school or college. They have fishing skills without a doubt but they need some guidance from the veterans instead of off the water negativity towards them. There are two sides to the Trey McKinney/Gerald Swindle incident but you yourself know how it sucks to have to report another angler for violating a rule. When Gerald told Trey about it and explained it was in the briefing even though it wasn’t a marked no-wake zone, Trey should have at least brought it up to the director instead of acting like Gerald was being a tattle tale or a sore loser. Sorry I didn’t plan to make such a long post and you may have more incite on the examples I have brought up.

    I can say from experiences that the pros elite or mlf get info or hire guides prior to a tournament. The selling of information on websites from guides is also hurting the integrity of the sport. But anytime money is involved morals and values go out the window for MOST. My opinion is this I don't need a cheat sheet to weld I've been doing it forever and at the top of my game. I don't think the guys at the top level of fishing should be using ffs to compete it needs to have some kind of regulation at the top levels. For instance let them use ffs to practice but when it comes to competition days no ffs allowed. Just like a test in school use whatever tool is necessary to learn what you need to know but when it comes time to take the test your on your own.

    In todays age of technology and information, kids are way better than when i was a kid. I know quite a few teenage anglers that are my friends' kids, and they are killing it at our local little lakes, and when they get on big bodies of water, they're good at targeting fish. My point is today's generation is a different breed with or without way points or FFS. Also, if you're not scoping, you're hoping in tournaments nowadays. Thats why i stopped, i can't afford FFS, and you can't compete in them without it and be consistent.

Being able to watch them react in real time 20ft deep and then knowing they are reacting to a certain bait so knowing for sure to keep casting that bait in the same place, it’s crazy man, it’s just an extra advantage that takes it too far overboard. The sport to me is man vs wild, man vs fish, if it has no chance to see your movements then you shouldn’t be able to see its movements. That’s my opinion, it’s not the same sport. It’s something! First thing that's got to happen if they're for FFS or against it the word BAN has to stop being used. It's a negative word that's more times than not associated with a negative situation that results in a negative outcome. There has to be limits in all activities that people participate in. Otherwise with the advancement in technology which by the way is to improve to make easier to make more comfortable more efficient and effective with whatever it may be that it's used for then whichever sport it's in will either change or go away. Every other sport or activity that has a competion aspect to it has had to and does limit certain things rules or devices so that the sport is either at level playing field and or each participant has equal chance at success. It's not as hard as it's being drawn out to be. Think about what if one Nascar team had more money and there were no limits on what they could do to the car or put in it. And you can use that example in all other sports. the FFS makers do not advertise their product claiming to make things harder , no they advertise it makes it easier so in turn it makes finding and catching fish easier plain and simple. Now someone will say it doesn't make it easier to catch the fish. But in reality it does when you consider all that FFs does for an angler. This could be the longest worded comment in youtube history if I tried explaing it all. Make yourself neutral and think about this . Lets say a guy is 20 yrs old now lets just say he only started fishing in a boat at 15 yrs of age. That's 5 years . I'm in no way saying these young guys aren't good anglers because they are or at very least good at a certain way of angling. There is no way ecspecialy in the sport of Bass fishing or any fishing for that matter a person is going to be able to have gain enough knowledge as a 45 yr old that's had 20 or more years of seat time on the water. Could go on and on for example one part of competive fishing is to locate the fish not troll around on high spotlighting them . Yes one could say well that's locating and that type person would be what the problem is . We have to be realistic about it. Be like a kids Eater egg hunt at night and only a few kids had flashlights. Yes I know all anglers have same FFS so it should be fair but with that logic then the sport as we know it would have to change in many ways. It's not about old versus young it's about the sport of Bass fishing period and it's fututre. Why can't MBL players use aluminum bats. Oh but they do in College at College level . Ok then you can have levels as we already do High School College andv the Opens but when you get to the Senior level as it's called in Golf then FFs isn't allowed. Are anglers allowed to take an AguaView to the St Lawerence and it's crystal clear waters and drop it down where does it end. I'll tell you who's dropping the ball on this one and it's whoever on competition committee but those folks and the higher ups are seeing dollars signs flying away in the form of the FFS manufactures. If it's not dealt with the right way and with a logical thinking mind soon it will either change the sport as we now know it forever or eliminate it period. This generation is soft and in denial when it comes to certain things just call it how it is see it for what it is black nis black white is white theres no in between . dam transgender my ass . God made Man and Woman period and now when I go to fill out paperwork i have to choose as my gender either male female or other. Well the other is who isn't nipping this issue in the bud period. Naw what I just said has nothing to do with fishing!!! Well ya break it down it kinda does my friend. Clear your mind close your eyes and think for second. The youth of this country will one day be running this country and making the decisions all while growing up thinking whats wrong is right . I'm so thankful I was able to live in the last real unsoft ass times

      Hunting banned spot lights, hunting banned drones. Nothing wrong with banning, as Hank Parker said. He's used it. Fishing a dock, and all of a sudden the bass leaves. He spins the trolling motor, and sees the bass hanging out in 20 ft, suspended. That bass wasn't catchable before FFS. Now, they can swim, but they can't hide. Just like drone hunting. They can run, but they can't hide. Ban it for the sake of the bass.
