I find myself in a very similar situation. I started developing a video game and I enjoy every second that I spend on it. It got some traction and I take no days off. In my case I have a full time job and I study at university, but I need more time if I want to finish the game. And that's why I am leaving university for a year. I resonate a lot with what you say, it feels like the right time to do it, and if I don´t then I will regret not taking this chance. My best wishes mate! You are not alone.

The soundtrack, especially the variation of "My Heart's in the Highlands" and Siobhan Miller's incredible voice, captivated me instantly. From what I’ve gathered, I believe this is your first indie game, which makes it all the more impressive. While there were minor issues with the controls and a few small bugs, they did not diminish the incredible experience you’ve created. Your dedication and vision truly shine through. I made the same decision with you. I was a student and working on a full time game dev job. I did have a game to finish in my head (with my classmates) so i decided to quit and commit it full time. Exactly like you, i said "This game won't have any success %99 but i'll regret if i wouldn't take this change %100." At the end of the story our game wasn't sucessfull at all but it was the most rewarding times in terms of learning. And i'm sure if the things are not gone well, you would still find a job so it's not the end of the life. And i got to say you have waay better game than us so i'm sure it's gonna be great. All i want to say is you wouldn't regret and it would be great!

If there is an area that takes place at night, you could add an achievement where you have to howl/ bark at the moon! Also you are very brave for focusing on your passion project!

@@kylebanks Just played the demo. It is really good! I haven't played that many games recently but I enjoyed the demo very much! I will be sure to get the full version when that comes out! Only thing is you can a wall that your not supposed to climb and then because the gate is still closed the human can't follow and all the cut scenes don't work but I'm sure you already know about that bug.

This game is something I really I like as it goes in a different direction than every other game who has to be either confrontational or RPG (but including lots of confrontations) or about sports. I am honestly not sure I would buy the game (not much time to play) but I would definitely watch other play it on twitch.
IDEA: As the main character is a dog you can add a game mechanic regarding some sort of treat and if you get it your dog learns a new trick like emotes in video games.

Recently one month ago I also made the decision to quit my job and focus on creating a prototype of my game for a few months and try to get funding so I can make it my fulltime job. It's really tough and scary, I feel you on that one, but as long as you stay consistent and productive for the game things will definitely go well! I've been following farewell north for a year now and I've tried the demo earlier this year, it's an absolutely beautiful game already and the demo left me teary. I can't wait to see what the final product will look like! I think your channel is very underrated, you definitely deserve have a whole lot more views and subscribers than this.

Holy cow! This passion project looks beautiful. I started on my passion project in UE5 not too long ago, also using a non-human player character. It's been so fun figuring out how to get certain mechanics or design elements to work with a non-human/quadruped. I'll probably end up playing through your video backlog for a little inspiration while I'm working, if you don't mind. 😅

Then I played Stray when it released and it fully inspired me to go ahead and start becoming a dev to make something I'm passionate about as well. I was only really able to do that due to a motorcycle accident that medically discharged me from the military, so now I get VA disability. Blessing and a curse I guess... life long chronic issues, but I get to freely pursue my dreams. 🤷♂️

As long as you're going to be okay and you've got some money aside so you can finish the game without impending doom like losing a house, then I say go for it. As long as you're going to be okay and you've got some money aside so you can finish the game without impending doom like losing a house, then I say go for it. Like you said if you have to get another job after, then that's what you gotta do. In my case my games are not going to make me any money, maybe they could have, in the 90s, but not today, and that's fine - so I gotta keep my day job. Ha ha, you guys listening?
