@@sakurakou2009I respect Mr Lee Kuan Yew a lot, and I think he did a great job with Singapore. But I share the same thoughts. I think building a nation as the first leader is slightly easier than what other nations have to deal with. There were no rules, no precedence and people had little to no choice.
In a more developer country, you have to contend with more formidable opponents that can create greater dissent. You would also be subjected to the pressure of constantly being benchmarked against previous rulers, and be more likely to cave in to certain societal trends.
However, this doesn’t detract from the fact that he was a visionary leader, who was both competent and incorruptible by nature. I think if placed in the shoes of other leaders, he might still have done just as well, but it might have taken him a lot longer and with a lot more uncertainties.

Teng shio Peng state visit to Singapore in 1978 was China's catalyst to market economy. Singapore's Goh Keng Swee immensely helped China in her rapid economic transformation. The least Xi should have done is acknowledge this fact with gratitude and honesty. China would not be what it's today because of Singapore and the American direct investments and reverse engineering like what the Japanese, Koreans and the Taiwanese did. China should now be non assertive towards her neighbours and respect their sovereignty and territorial integrity.

It is just unfortunate that the current leadership chooses to see success and turn a blind eye to past failures. Failure is indeed the mother of success, but that only works if one accepts failure and mistakes. Denial will only lead to fear and hatred (so called the dark side).
