I love that Charles views his greatest power is that of a teacher, not a psychic and that being a psychic is just a tool as part of his identity as a teacher.
Knowing his full story upto present date in the comics, I’d say Charles’s greatest power is his conniving deceit, manipulation and gaslighting. :P
The line from Professor X about his children of the atom dying while dancing, drinking wine, and making love is directly from E is for Extinction by Grant Morrison in New X-Men #114 or #115 I believe.

Three corrections on the Summers.
1) Yes, Vulcan is the youngest brother.
Therefore, however, he's not the _third_ Summers brother.
But rather, he is the *fourth* one.
2) We are missing still *A LOT* of Summers characters, not just Rachel.
3) If they know what they're doing, they will not add Rachel Summers to this, since she's meant to be unique in all of the multiverse.
Bro....you are right! The other younger half-brother is Adam-X aka "X-Treme" aka Adam Neramani/Summers....genetically engineered from the DNA of Emperor D'ken of the Shi'ar Empire and Katherine Summers from Earth. Rachel Summers is daughter of Cyclops and Jean Grey from another alternative universe. I love you for pointing that out...Cuz even I didn't catch that about the brothers of Summers.

Fun fact - Professor X is voiced by Ross Marquand, who has done other voice work for Marvel, and was also in The Walking Dead. The guy is talented.

@Smokey1419 Yup. He's also done Ultron in Multiverse of Madness and in What If, and has done some voice work for Invincibles as well. I happened to come across him way early on in his career when he was doing impressions on his TH-cam channel, and also had his acting reel on there. I remember telling people I knew at the time to check him out, and that I knew he was going to go on to bigger things. Also met him a couple of times and chatted with him for a bit - once before he got his role on the Walking Dead and again a few years after. Really down-to-earth dude.

Gladiator's power level is linked to his confidence. The more confident the stronger he is. He was taught humans on Earth are very weak so when he showed up and seen bowl headed Juggernaut coming at him he was like please sit down.
Did you see Nimrod inside Master Mold in the intro? Seems to indicate that Bastion is coming because he was the merging of both. While Sinister is revealed as a mastermind here, I doubt that he is the one Cable was referring to when he said "he is coming."
I think it's Apocalypse pulling all the strings. There's no reason for him to be in the opening credits otherwise.

I wanted Lifedeath to be one ep. I hate having to wait another week for Remy's funeral, 'cause I'm still not over it. Also, I hope she speaks at his funeral, since she brought him into the X-Men.
LifeDeath is also split up in the comics.
Here in XM97, it served as breathing space between episodes 3 & 5, and now for 5& 7.

Deathbird and Gladiator were two of my favorites from the comics. Hope we see more of them. Happy to see Storm get her powers back, but I’m bummed they’re not doing the story where she challenges Scott for leadership of the X-Men and wins without her powers.
Storm and Forge's relationship is my biggest criticism in the entire show. When Storm said, "my love," I was like "???" Despite a lot of plots being resolved much quicker compared to the comics, I thought they were all very well done, while this felt like something they just had to cross off the list.

I think the whole sentinel situation was what sinister meant when he told Madelyn “ your house is on fire.”
I wonder if next week, Pietro and Wanda (and Lorna) will appear to attend the funerals for Magneto and Gambit, especially seeing that he’s their Father and they’re still mutants (as they should have remained) in XM97.
I had the exact same thought!!! Especially since we see Lorna in the opening with X-Force.
What of Wanda is voiced by Elizabeth Olsen and Pietro is either Aaron or Evan, that would be such a surprise!

It was interesting that they asked Charles to give up his memories, and how they touched on memories helping define us. Madelyne Pryor told Jean, "we are our memories!" it was cool to call back on that theme.

I was just being literal, seeing that giant, bright-red lasers come out of Scott’s eyes. Just as an alternative in case they do a switch-up. Much like how “Fire incarnate” is a direct reference to Phoenix, yet episode 3 was about Maddie and the Inferno arc.
Cable would be the vastly preferred choice for next week.
While it was bittersweet that in her final moments of life, Maddie got to re-unite with her son, it must be so harrowing for Cable who’s probably tried multiple times to stop the Genosha attack and has had to witness the death of his mother many times…

Listen, I know Kurt and Rogue don’t have any kind of sibling relationship established in this show beyond Mystique telling them, but I still want to see them like siblings in upcoming episodes. Does it make sense? No, but I still like it.
I totally agree.
In X-Men Evolution, Rogue and Kurt were always squabbling like siblings, and Rogue eventually made the comment “He like an annoying little brother” referring to Kurt. And it’s later revealed that Mystique raised Rogue and gave birth to Kurt. And the two actually do develop a sibling relationship.
They even both stand upto her together for being a bad mother to them both.
I really hope we get this sort of relationship or at least acknowledgement in 97.
If memory serves me right, XTAS did indeed confirm that Mystique is Kurt’s biological mother and Rogue’s adopted mother (separately). But they (Rogue & Kurt) didn’t have much screen time together, so their relationship, if any, wasn’t explored.

@@foulrot That Claremont’s original idea and the latest retcon, yes - but in XTAS and XME, she’s his mother.
In XME they even tried to make her a more sympathetic mother, by having Kurt stolen from her and her losing him, rather than casually yeeting him into a river like in the comics.
XTAS and XME came out in the 90s and 2000s. Having Mystique being his Father would be too problematic and controversial to present to children. And as a gay man, even today, I’d agree it’d be too much to put in a kid’s show.
Edit: In short - in the original cartoon and X-Men Evolution, Mystique is/was confirmed to be Kurt’s _mother._

@@arc7375 I think Mystique told them in the 5th season of XTAS and it was pretty much the end of the episode. But when Kurt BAMF’d into Rogue’s arms in the previous episode, I was hoping for something! 😆

Ok real talk. How many seasons of X-men 97 we should get. Be honest even if its just a wish. Also should we get spin-offs like X-Factor, X-Force, X-Caliber and New Mutants.
My theory is we're getting Onslaught. Charles returns, Magneto assumed dead, and he flips the fuck out.
I think it was Nimrod/Bastion who shot Trask in the back. Somehow, the Sentinels, through Numrod/Bastion, and Mr. Ssinister's plans are aligned. I've been out of the comics games since 2000 (Wolverine #100 was my last purchase).. I know the comics have some stuff I'm only catching up on now. (Krakoa/Hellfire/Sins, etc) and the show like the 90's one isn't a parallel re-telling. So the arrangement of events can be out of order or key players changed (or whole arcs ignored).
Given what the previous show has done, I can't help but look for my favorite to show up: Apocalypse. His alliance with Sinister, Deathbird, and ruling the future in the 90's show only helps point toward him.
Also, I'm glad I found this channel (thanks to episode 5). I enjoy the deeper lore recalls made. I can get pretty nerdy with X-men up to Fetal Attractions. Sort of fell off after that.

You mentioned second mutations maybe being hinted at. I felt with Storm regaining her powers and being able to manipulate her costume and going into space, her powers are even stronger than they were before. Later on in the comics we find out she can control the atmosphere on any planet! Hell, she could even kill someone by condensing the air pressure in their bodies.; the black of the costume hints at her forging (no pun intended) her darkness to her whole self. Such good stuff. And the line, "You are an echo of who I am. So let them thunder for I am lightning!" We all know there would be no thunder without the lightning... just like there is no power when we believe lies. So powerful. I love my Storm!

The Adversary may be gone for now, but I'm still holding to the hope that there's a non-zero chance that we get some version of the Outback-era X-Men.

It didn't. The machine he created to heal her worked; after that, the only thing stopping her from using her powers was her own self-doubt.

In the Bible, the “Devil” is never actually referred to such, nor is its name “Satan” - it’s simply referred to as “the adversary.” Also “the beast” - but I thought that this was a nifty fact to bring up.

I’m hoping next season we get Emperor Vulcan and Kingbreaker. The only one who could defeat him would be Gladiator but he’d have the Imperial Guard with him if he’s emperor. We also need a reunion between him, Scott, and Alex.

I didn’t like that Lifedeath feels like second fiddle to Motendo by giving it a shorter screen time and then Part II turned out almost the same with the Shi’ar story.
I don’t like that Storm’s love affairs are often sudden and rushed with little to no progression and they don’t often lasts. Her relationship with Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Black Panther and Forge in the comics seems short lived. That’s what it feels like with Storm and Forge in ‘97.
Had Lifedeath been a whole 32 minute episode by itself maybe we could have seen how Storm and Forge’s love story progressed. I wished that for the first two episodes she still had her long hair and after losing her powers she left the mansion, went motel hopping in Texas, went into depression, cut her hair a lá Ultimate X-Men grieving for the loss of her boyfriend Beast but this time grieving for the loss of her powers, met Forge at a bar wearing a hoodie to cover her messed up hair, then Forge takes her in, Forge helps Storm fix her hair and gave her a mohawk, help her in her misery, help her get out of bed, feed her, bathe her etc. and in her struggle Forge then becomes more drawn to her and her to him. Like I wanted to see her struggle, be depressed, be combative, hopeless so we can feel her pain and her agony and see how Forge dealt with her, fall in love with her in the process and then enters the Adversary feeding on her agony which is the part we saw on Lifedeath Part I. Like there’s so much stuff I wanted to see, like some director’s cut type of sh*t with Lifedeath. I mean I love her storyline and the lesson I got from it but at the same time I’m kinda bummed that her struggle seems so short and then she got her powers back right away.

The irony is that Magneto isn’t actually a villain. _Xavier_ is actually perhaps the biggest antagonist in the series.
Under that facade of niceness is a heavily conceited, conniving, manipulative megalomaniac.

I think Gabriel is actually older than Scott and Alex (could be wrong)? In any case he's apparently early in his story (like seeing Emma Frost w/ inner circle members) and has yet to realize who he is related to. I'm thinking we get more Summers'ing later with that and Hope (and her 🧸) and Rachel! Maybe we get it in the Bright Eyes aka Cable episode to learn about the Summers lineage?

Another exciting episode! The dialogs was WILD! Seeing Forge doing MCU "Kamar-Taj" magic was awesome!!! lots of throwbacks and easter eggs! OG STORM is back baby! every time her theme music plays, I get goosebumps and chills. Professor X is back baby! YEAH! bring on the endgame!

The fact that he saw Gambit but not Magneto truly intrigues me. This is honestly the one show in years that as soon as the credits roll, I am hyped for the next episode and cannot wait for the following week. I think maturing the series has done wonders, keeping the idea that, "The fans of the original are adults now." The writers and showrunners clearly are fans, and having so much of the original cast and crew come back shows that. The classic Storm costume made me legitimately squeal in excitement. I just cannot express how much I am loving this show, and getting to see your reactions has been so fun.
Xavier wouldve definitely felt Magnetos death first. They've gone out of their way to mention the connection they share. Leech shut his powers off and the wild sentinel moved on when the threat was no longer there
My first thought was when Magneto told Leech not to have any fear, is that Magneto contained all the mutants around him in his magnetic field, and burrowed deep underground.
I immediately thought was that Magneto would appear to die for narrative purposes, but knowing him and the setup with Leech, he’d have survived with all of them.
I agree that Xavier would have been psychically alerted of Magneto truly died. And he should have appeared with Gambit in the vision. And it seemed very telegraphed to me that Xavier said of all of his memories, he wishes specifically to remember Erik/Magnus, and then only Gambit appeared in his vision, communicating to me that Magneto survived.
Magneto had Erg with him too who could absorb the blast from that Wild Sentinel.

It doesn't make any sense that Storm's outfit manifested on her like that, as that isn't any part of her mutant powers. 15:35 Took me out of the moment and seemed poorly considered

Clothes beam is a known property of omega level mutants unstable molecules shenanigans, however im not that sure about the stylish mohawk becoming a comically large hair do, regardless we do not question the goddess we cannot but witness her
@@ginsover It's possible, Storm uses electrolysis to breath underwater and out in space, just like she uses it for her hair here and she did use it before in comics for her clothes, as well. She can conjure them from thin air on a nude body as well since she controls atoms on molecular, sub-atomic level. She uses atoms to literally mold, bend, and clash them to create storms. It is part of her reportiore and people tend to forget that quite often for her powers to work, she needs to be able to manipulate them on molecular level to create sudden storms, flash freezes or heat waves among other things which helps her to control cosmic weather as well.
I think that the "Gambit" vision is foreshadowing that Gambit's going to become Apocalypses Horseman "Death" he was Death at one point. Could be the cliff hanger, season 2 is how do you save him and get him back?
