Isolation on a new frontier. Exploring The Pumlumon.

- With the weather once again forecast for wall to wall blue sky, I headed for Wales. This was different to the usual outings as it was not confined within one of the national parks. Nant y Moch reservoir in Northern Ceredigion was my destination. From there I'd be taking on The Plumlumon. My route first took me along the reservoir and beside The Afon Hengwn before turning my attention to the peaks. A tough ascent through Heather and bog brouth me to my first point on the ridge, Carn Fawr. From here the going improved considerably as I made my way over grassy summits to the main summit of Pen Plumlumon Fawr. A gorgeous view over the reservoir and out to the coast at Aberystwyth greeted me. There was just time to visit Llyn Llygad Rheidol before returning to the car. All in all, a great day out on a new frontier. Will definitely be returning.
Cracking day to be out and about on the hill
A very enjoyable time out in the Pumlumon massif my friend. It is vast up there - no wonder you expressed joy throughout. The space is simply a tonic and on such a good day. The views from Pumlumon Arwystli were fantastic. At 21:21 you were looking at the source of the Wye - that three pronged gully. The nearest was the actual source of one of Britain's fave rivers and mine. The area is special - Pumlumon means 5 peaks in Welsh and Plynlimon is the anglicized version. Great on top - I've had the pleasure in great weather and stormy. Well, good to end at llyn Llygad - it's a natural lake with fish in it. A great feature I agree. I trust you got back down buzzing. Thanks Mark. Realy enjoyed the area and can't wait to explore more. Virtual deserted on a Sunday afternoon too. I hope I'm starting to get to grips with the Welsh language although a long way to go I think 😂. All the best mate. 👍
