It's illegal to sell counterfeit products as well as allowing their sale on a site. You should consider filing with the Federal Trade Commission or Attorney General in your state.
I cannot express my appreciation for you enough for doing this series, Keep it coming. I buy a lot through eBay and while a majority of my experience has been positive I have been scammed buy the items you’ve shown this far. I wrote this on your previous post. I purchased ADG Absolu Instinct. The seller had over 1,000 positive reviews and not a single NEGATIVE ! I received it and realized it was counterfeit. Took pictures and luckily I had an original to compare. I was able to return it and then realized they suddenly got a bad review for the same exact thing. 2 days later, my review along with the other person’s was scrubbed. This scammer went right back to having zero negative reviews 🤬🤬🤬

Happened to me with seller scamming me a fake le labo another 13. I took it to nordstrom at the mall and the le labo rep said it smelled off. Also the batch numbers were different from box. I left negative review and returned it. The seller blamed me for switching. The sellers blames all the negative reviewers. I've bought before and got legit perfumes, so it seems like they sell both real and fake. I got my money back. I made the mistake of not checking the negative reviews. But here's the thing, there are scammer buyers which make it hard sometimes to determine who's lying. I've got solid connections with legitimate sellers on ebay and we have solid positive transactions. Ediscount perfumes, perfume empire, forever lux are my top 3.
Thanks, Ash! One other trick I employ when searching for authentic fragrances on eBay is to go to the search parameters and select 'USA only.' One still needs to do their homework from that point on; but, at least, the auctions originating from China, etc. are filtered out from the beginning and not shown in the search results. One can also select 'North America only' if they want to include search results from Canada in addition to the USA. (This advice is for people shopping from the USA, but can be adjusted for wherever in the world that the customer is located - Australia, etc.)
Since Ebay won't do anything, contact the Federal Trade Commission who handles that sort of thing as well as counterfeit stuff. Also contact the perfume company as they may want to to enforce their proprietary products
I've been selling on ebay for many years (not cologne) and the "no returns" doesn't mean anything, you can still return it for a full refund as long as you show that it's fake or not what you ordered. As a matter of fact Ebay is 99% of the time on the side of the buyer over the seller. I've had so many scammers buy something from me then open a claim with ebay saying they never received it. I'll show ebay the tracking number proving it was delivered to their address and ebay will still make me refund them. Then a week later I'll show ebay that they're now selling the product they stole from me on their ebay store and ebay doesn't care.
right? ebay always sides with the buyer. as a seller, ebay even sides with the seller when the buyer returns an item back broken that they bought brand new. so this guy is talking BS.
Great post. I am a pretty sophisticated buyer and I got faked out by an eBay seller too. But here’s the thing, the seller I bought from had over 1,000 positive fragrance reviews. They were a fragrance eBay reseller in New York. When I got the fake (and I knew instantly), I went back in to file an eBay complaint and the seller had changed to something like Hong Kong Trading Company. I got my money back, but somehow they swapped out sellers. The seller I bought from disappeared. I also was not allowed to leave a bad review for the “new” seller because they were not the original seller to me. There’s some kind of seller switch out scam going on which can get even the best of us.
I got taken for Replica Matcha Meditation. I checked the batch code when it arrived and thought it was legit. Then saw these videos and went back and checked and confirmed I got ripped off. Too late to do anything about the money but I am going to share and spread the word. Thank you for continuing to post these videos. Hopefully the word gets out and eBay is forced to do something about it.
Plus I can hear genuine concern in Ash's voice!! he understands the risks of fakes being put in rotation, he can see it hurting the fragrance community in a gnarly way in the future
Ya it's for sure a problem. It's tough for eBay to check all the frags. They have 3rd party inspections for watches, high end purses and jewelry but they need another layer of protection for fragrances too. I've gotten a few fakes recently of designers and clones, but luckily I can usually spot a fake now and get my money back from eBay right away. but I'm sure so many people get taken every day.
It's a lot easier to authenticate watches in jewelry precious metals then fragrances because they have to be up to date on all the nuances of the packaging and the cellophane wrapping across thousands of brands which is basically impossible then they would have to open up the package to examine the product which are not allowed to do because then it's a shipping hazard.
What makes this even better is I tried to sell my very real Gucciy Guilty and it was struck down as counterfeit. Meanwhile, my Burberry Hero EDP sold (also very real) only for the customer to leave negative feedack claiming "fake" without ever contacting me at all. I hate Ebay, I won't sell or buy fragrances on there from now. My account with perfect feedback since 2007 got wrecked and there is nothing I can do about it.

I own a perfume store , and at one point in the past people use to come to me asking to match eBay prices 😂. Like chanel blue for $45 big size😂😂😂. I told them buy it on ebay, but lately I noticed that people not shopping on eBay or amazon, wallmart, etc . They got smart!
The saddest part is most of the people who buy fakes think its real and not only do they give the sellers amazing reviews, they also go onto fragrance websites and hate on the fragrance saying its weak. Thank you for making these videos and exposing these scammers 👍
This is true for sure, not everybody selling there is scamming and if you know what to look for you can typically sus out a fake really quickly. The issue is that the majority of people buying fragrances on eBay aren't going to know what to look for and so they get duped thinking they're getting a great deal. It's a double whammy as well because then people selling legit products will have more paranoid people questioning what they've purchased because eBay allows fakes to run rampant.
Exactly I think this video is unfair as the majority of sellers are genuine most of these fake sellers are from abroad. Maybe it's the perfume manufacturers who need to up there game and come up with new ways to protect their products from dupes.

Another issue with eBay as from a sellers perspective too. I sold someone an authentic celerio eleysium 100ml and have the legitimate receipts from a verifiable vendor. The buyer messaged me and said he believed the bottle was literally just water, but after asking him more questions because tested its legitimacy myself and have the receipts, the buyer eventually told me he hadn’t even tried spraying it yet. Wouldn’t be a big deal if he hadn’t also left a negative review calling me a scammer. I don’t accept returns on my account but that’s irrelevant due to eBay’s guaranteed money back, which allows buyers to force a refund and return if they want-no reason or evidence is needed. I lost money off of shipping and the buyer left a falsely negative review. Kind of crazy to be honest. STAY AWAY FROM EBAY if you’re buying or selling, just an absolute shady mess for everyone genuine. If anyone wants a LEGITIMATE 100ml bottle of celerio Elysium let me know.

Agreed 100%. It's the same reason a lot of countries haven't banned tobacco -- politicians get their lobby money and the government gets their taxes. As long as eBay gets a cut and their reputation keeps its silver polish, they have no incentive to act on this behavior.

About two years ago, I was tempted to buy some Amouage fragrances from Wal-Mart, and I'm very glad I didn't. I could tell that the seller at that time was a scammer. Hopefully things will change for the better at these websites Ash (and others) are warning others about. One time, I bought a fragrance from Amazon, and the sprayer didn't work at all. I contacted Amazon, they contacted the seller, and the seller told me to ship it back in order to get the refund. I didn't trust that, though, so I told Amazon that I have a concern the seller will sell that same broken product to someone else. Amazon agreed with me, so I kept the broken product, and I got a store credit that was more than what I paid.
I've seen fakes at discounters and even department stores it's so easy to return a dupe to any of these websites and they just re-index it and resell it to the next simpleton
That’s why I just bite the bullet and purchase my fragrances from the actual department store Dillards at full price .. I work too hard for the potential BS 😊..!!!
Most people buying the fakes aren't watching this channel 😮💨. Ebay, Mercari cannot handle all the counterfeits. They don't want to spend the time searching for them.

I left EBay in 2008. I bought a bunch of Ralph Lauren polo shirts that all turned out to be fakes! I reported the seller, got a refund and didn’t go back. Scammers.
It's absolutely sickening eBay gets away with it and you're right it's happening on other sites like Amazon as well. They are only interested in profit and customer service has gone right out the window since COVID. So 😢

Not just eBay. I bought a bottle of YSL Myself on Amazon, and it wasn’t even close. Smelled nothing like Myself & the bottle had all kinds of differences to the original
I bought a fake perfume recently on eBay. They made the package and bottle look just like the original, but the scent was awful. It's crazy how they are allowed to do that.
Happened to me many times on ebay. There is a big fake Chanel operation out of the Detroit Michigan area. Thankfully eBay has always given me my money back.
Also, hear me out... what if the designer brands actually love this? If fakes flood the market to the point where you can't know if you're getting a real bottle, what do you do? Why, you buy directly from the company that makes it. I know that's what I do now, it's not worth wondering if I just got a weird bottle or a fake when the smell isn't 1-1 with samples or is weak.
I recently bought a bottle of Percival from a reputable seller on eBay, but there was something that seemed off about the packaging. I emailed Parfums de Marly about it, sent them a bunch of pics and they couldn't (or wouldn't) confirm whether or not I appeared to have a genuine bottle. They told me the only way to be certain is to buy directly from them or one of their official resellers. I sent it back for a refund and bought one from an online discounter for a few dollars more than the seller on eBay.
It adds downward pressure on prices and dilutes brand so I really doubt they like it. Even if it worked they'd lose a lot of money prior to inflection point

The difference now is fakes have flooded the market in such a way that you can't tell if you're getting real inventory from anywhere other than the company itself. It's common knowledge to buy Chanel fragrances from Chanel because they are so faked. All designer fragrances are headed that direction, even ones that sell for $50-60 on the secondary market.
I bought a fake bottle of Polo Red Extreme from eBay. I sent a picture and they gave me a refund immediately. But then the seller responds with "We're very sorry to hear there was an issue with the supply chain, but not to worry, if you want to keep it, we will give you a 50% refund." Yeah, on the bottle of rubbing alcohol they sent me.
I'm to the point where I will only buy clones off Ebay, and purchase designer and niche from trusted online discount retailers. I have bout fake designers off Ebay, and i have always got my money back. Thanks for the video Ash!!

Ebay refund process is trash. That is why after processing with ebay. I raised this refund process in paypal. They resolve the issue as long as you have complete documentation.
In my experience, i always ask the seller if the item is authentic. Most of the time the seller will tell you if the fragrance is fake or not. Also i like checking reviews. I would say the problem is still somewhat small as long as you look for red flags, it’s about the same risk to get scammed as trading colognes on marketplace or reddit.
What’s funny is i tried selling an authentic fragrance and somebody flagged me as counterfeit and i got taken down , when I literally bough from Sephora crazy
Perfume Empire and Forever Lux are the 2 sellers I go through on Ebay. Except the last time I bought a cologne. I bought JPG Le Male and it smells nothing like what I remember from the sample I got.
Plenty of Initio Side Effect on eBay, new in the package, $80-$100 buy it now. I've reported these for years and eBay always comes back with they don't see an issue with the item.

Yeah, that happened to me with a bottle of Versace Eros EDP. And I’m still questioning the tester bottle of D&G Light Blue Sun that I bought on there as well.
I purchased a bottle of YsL 3 or 4 years ago and it was an obvious fake. The scent literally lasted less than 5min. The seller fought me saying I was uninformed and it just became a skin scent. Ebay gave my money back but it took months to go through their process.
I received a fake Althair last week. Fortunately, Ebay refunded my money even before the bottle arrived. I was trying to be careful. But it looks like I need to redouble my efforts. Thanks for the heads up.
It is 100% not the fault of the buyer if they get scammed by someone presenting counterfeits as if they are real. That’s why there are consumer protection laws in place. I would suggest writing an email to your attorney general. The more people who get involved the quicker they’ll do so,etching to put an end to it.
Ash, one more advise to anyone out there buying from eBay, make sure to go to feedback and read the negative reviews on any listing you are interested on. eSellers will give refunds/partial refunds if you give a positive feedback. People that write negative feedback will decline the money to leave a mark on the seller. Unfortunately not everyone do it.

In Poland We got the same problem. We have "allegro", the biggest online shop (like ebay), and We have 90% of fakes fragrance on this page. They have 5% on every fragrance, and not matter this will be a original or fake.. It's so sad

eBay returns are tricky. You have to know how to do it. If you say item not as described, they usually force the return

Seller 1-perfumes is excellent. Sells authentic, accepts returns within 30 days, fast shipping. Not all ebay sellers are scammers

I don’t accept returns on my account but that’s irrelevant due to eBay’s guaranteed money back, which allows buyers to force a refund and return if they want-no reason or evidence is needed. I lost money off of shipping and the buyer left a falsely negative review. Kind of crazy to be honest. STAY AWAY FROM EBAY if you’re buying or selling, just an absolute shady mess for everyone genuine. If anyone wants a LEGITIMATE 100ml bottle of celerio Elysium let me know.

Thank you for the time and money you spent to investigate this. I have been scammed on eBay. The seller returned my money, but eBay said I had to wait months to leave a review, so I basically couldn’t warn anyone. I thought that was strange.
If eBay stopped selling counterfeit items, that would wipe out half of their business turnover.
Agreed 100%. It's the same reason a lot of countries haven't banned tobacco -- politicians get their lobby money and the government gets their taxes. As long as eBay gets a cut and their reputation keeps its silver polish, they have no incentive to act on this behavior.

About two years ago, I was tempted to buy some Amouage fragrances from Wal-Mart, and I'm very glad I didn't. I could tell that the seller at that time was a scammer. Hopefully things will change for the better at these websites Ash (and others) are warning others about. One time, I bought a fragrance from Amazon, and the sprayer didn't work at all. I contacted Amazon, they contacted the seller, and the seller told me to ship it back in order to get the refund. I didn't trust that, though, so I told Amazon that I have a concern the seller will sell that same broken product to someone else. Amazon agreed with me, so I kept the broken product, and I got a store credit that was more than what I paid.

I’m never buying any fragrance from eBay. I’d rather go to a reliable discounter and pay a bit more and know I’m getting the real deal.
I've seen fakes at discounters and even department stores it's so easy to return a dupe to any of these websites and they just re-index it and resell it to the next simpleton

Yeah I reported a bunch of fake eBay listing and even asked the sellers and they told me they were fake. eBay did nothing
Most people buying the fakes aren't watching this channel 😮💨. Ebay, Mercari cannot handle all the counterfeits. They don't want to spend the time searching for them.

I left EBay in 2008. I bought a bunch of Ralph Lauren polo shirts that all turned out to be fakes! I reported the seller, got a refund and didn’t go back. Scammers.
As long as you go with the 100k plus sellers, you should be fine.
It's absolutely sickening eBay gets away with it and you're right it's happening on other sites like Amazon as well. They are only interested in profit and customer service has gone right out the window since COVID. So 😢

Not just eBay. I bought a bottle of YSL Myself on Amazon, and it wasn’t even close. Smelled nothing like Myself & the bottle had all kinds of differences to the original

I bought a fake perfume recently on eBay. They made the package and bottle look just like the original, but the scent was awful. It's crazy how they are allowed to do that.

Happened to me many times on ebay. There is a big fake Chanel operation out of the Detroit Michigan area. Thankfully eBay has always given me my money back.

Also, hear me out... what if the designer brands actually love this? If fakes flood the market to the point where you can't know if you're getting a real bottle, what do you do? Why, you buy directly from the company that makes it. I know that's what I do now, it's not worth wondering if I just got a weird bottle or a fake when the smell isn't 1-1 with samples or is weak.
I recently bought a bottle of Percival from a reputable seller on eBay, but there was something that seemed off about the packaging. I emailed Parfums de Marly about it, sent them a bunch of pics and they couldn't (or wouldn't) confirm whether or not I appeared to have a genuine bottle. They told me the only way to be certain is to buy directly from them or one of their official resellers.
I sent it back for a refund and bought one from an online discounter for a few dollars more than the seller on eBay.
It adds downward pressure on prices and dilutes brand so I really doubt they like it. Even if it worked they'd lose a lot of money prior to inflection point

The difference now is fakes have flooded the market in such a way that you can't tell if you're getting real inventory from anywhere other than the company itself. It's common knowledge to buy Chanel fragrances from Chanel because they are so faked. All designer fragrances are headed that direction, even ones that sell for $50-60 on the secondary market.
I bought a fake bottle of Polo Red Extreme from eBay. I sent a picture and they gave me a refund immediately. But then the seller responds with "We're very sorry to hear there was an issue with the supply chain, but not to worry, if you want to keep it, we will give you a 50% refund." Yeah, on the bottle of rubbing alcohol they sent me.
I'm to the point where I will only buy clones off Ebay, and purchase designer and niche from trusted online discount retailers. I have bout fake designers off Ebay, and i have always got my money back.

Ebay refund process is trash. That is why after processing with ebay. I raised this refund process in paypal. They resolve the issue as long as you have complete documentation.

In my experience, i always ask the seller if the item is authentic. Most of the time the seller will tell you if the fragrance is fake or not. Also i like checking reviews. I would say the problem is still somewhat small as long as you look for red flags, it’s about the same risk to get scammed as trading colognes on marketplace or reddit.
What’s funny is i tried selling an authentic fragrance and somebody flagged me as counterfeit and i got taken down , when I literally bough from Sephora crazy

Perfume Empire and Forever Lux are the 2 sellers I go through on Ebay. Except the last time I bought a cologne. I bought JPG Le Male and it smells nothing like what I remember from the sample I got.
Posh, Walmart, eBay, Mercari and Amazon. I have written and report d and all of them send letters back and yes you are correct!!!! Yes I spent hours.
I only buy from 4 sellers on eBay. 2 of those were on ashs’ recommended list from a video he made years ago

Walmart & Amazon are the same as well. I only buy online if I know the scent or have a sample to compare it to & there is a return window.
Plenty of Initio Side Effect on eBay, new in the package, $80-$100 buy it now. I've reported these for years and eBay always comes back with they don't see an issue with the item.

Yeah, that happened to me with a bottle of Versace Eros EDP. And I’m still questioning the tester bottle of D&G Light Blue Sun that I bought on there as well.
I purchased a bottle of YsL 3 or 4 years ago and it was an obvious fake. The scent literally lasted less than 5min. The seller fought me saying I was uninformed and it just became a skin scent. Ebay gave my money back but it took months to go through their process.
I received a fake Althair last week.
Fortunately, Ebay refunded my money even before the bottle arrived.
I was trying to be careful.
But it looks like I need to redouble my efforts.

It is 100% not the fault of the buyer if they get scammed by someone presenting counterfeits as if they are real. That’s why there are consumer protection laws in place. I would suggest writing an email to your attorney general. The more people who get involved the quicker they’ll do so,etching to put an end to it.

these are wild, I don't think you can even trust the ones with 97% and up reviews on there

I think that for us buyers to actually make a point with eBay, the companies themselves are to take it up against eBay.
Ash, one more advise to anyone out there buying from eBay, make sure to go to feedback and read the negative reviews on any listing you are interested on.
eSellers will give refunds/partial refunds if you give a positive feedback. People that write negative feedback will decline the money to leave a mark on the seller. Unfortunately not everyone do it.

This happens anywhere where there's a third party seller. It's not eBay's fault shop the seller Don't buy from sellers that are in Michigan selling designer fragrances for 20 bucks

In Poland We got the same problem. We have "allegro", the biggest online shop (like ebay), and We have 90% of fakes fragrance on this page. They have 5% on every fragrance, and not matter this will be a original or fake.. It's so sad
