back in 2004 i lived in Ontario and i used to run laps around the yard and this big Cardinal would run laps from one side of the yard to the other. i began to listen to his calls so one day i started to call back. i copied him/her and learned that they can count to 10. i repeated the 2 high pitch sounds followed by another low pitch sound all the way up to 10 and the bird went back down to 1 after the 10th sequence. Then repeated it, the several times I tried. amazing creatures these birds
Played this when I heard a Cardinal in my backyard and one came to inspect.
Me too!
Cheer, cheer, cheer.. wheat, wheat, wheat .. my favorite bird!
His songs are as beautiful as his plumage. What a blessing it is not only to hear his song , but, to see him joyfully singing away. Thanks for sharing this incredible footage! ❤️❤️❤️
It's funny the variations of the same birds calls in different areas!
Awesome, I never heard the "rrrrrr" till u pointed it out! The the "dunk" vocalization at the end of some of their phrases! Great video! Thank you! Such a diverse collection! Liked and subbed!
Glad you enjoyed it
Ever since I was a little girl in the 90s, the “switch back” has always been my favorite bird call. It was only recently that I finally learned it came from cardinals. ❤
Very nice
This was great! You should hear my cardinal (not literally mine, he’s just been living in my backyard more or less for like 3 years!) his call is hilarriousss, and soo cute !
The ones I hear near Minneapolis, MN have two calls. One sounds like #4 only with a note ahead, so it sounds like "What cheer, what cheer". But I've also heard ones and luckily seen them that sound like "see cue, see cue (or C Q, C Q).
The reason I'm watching this video is I was trying to figure out which bird does that "what cheer" sound. I've got one doing that every day outside my window! Thanks for confirming.
Thank you for this great video! I didn't know cardinals had such a wonderful variety of songs.
#4 is what I hear..the 'pew-pew-pew" sound
My husband and I hear this every morning super early and also in the evening, we were calling him Laser Bird until I found out today it is the daddy Cardinal we see occasionally!
I hear one similar to #3, but it goes on longer, then stops abruptly.Hard to explain. It sounds like it starts in mid call, then goes on a few seconds, then stops in, what seems like, the middle of it's call.
Had one crowing sounded like more 10 feet right above a tree against my backyard. Js didnt sound like no matting call lol. Such a beautiful bird....let's go cards pulling for you 2020
At 1:06 you can hear a Blue Jay call in the distance.
I make this call and a bird answers. Now I know it's a cardinal!
All northen bird sounds
In southern New Jersey/southeastern Pennsylvania they don’t sing like this at all. It’s completely different.
Very interesting.

I have watched the male feed the female
That's likely the bird that's always calling me weirdo. The abuse I take...
It's hard to interpret.
