- Uttarkashi Tunnel Collapse Rescue Operation: The rescue operations to evacuate 41 workers trapped in Uttarakhand's Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi district continued for the fifteenth day on Sunday.Mahmood Ahmed, managing director of National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, said that multiple plans have been put into action to rescue the workers.
Vertical drilling, one of the several chalked-out options to bring out the workers trapped since November 12, is currently underway.The Indian Army has also joined the operation and been tasked with the manual drilling. Kindly implement the following methodology.
1- Ultra high pressure (50 000psi) water jet to be used at location of augar failure, in order to clear the abrasive particles and natural bonding sedimentation.
The above operation needs to be carried out in interval of 30 minutes. 3 course of close range nozzles spray will be enough.
Thereafter a rotary hammer drilling to be performed. Then by horizontal thrust boring method the extension of slightly reduced dia pipe to be jacked till final clearance.
Thats it.

Another side cutting is more safe... than vertical.side tunnel .....possibility of heavy raining shouldbe taken care off.. supply of very pure watet and food suppliment...donot allow any person who is out sider....

Explanation is fantastic, but the background noise is pathetic. They are least bothered about the news. It is surprising that video is recorded in the open path of the common place . People are bound to go from the side .
Just one observation- As you mentioned that from barkot side we are trying to reach there by completing remaining ca 500m tunnel, right ? Did we explore the possibility of pilot tunnel from this end ? because blasting complete profile a slow process eg 3-5m at best in one cycle which last a day or two.
Another option push a rod through remaining 13m in front of the already drilled pipe and that will give some orientation to workers who are stuck inside the tunnel. If it is “safe to do” than they can perhaps help in clearing at-least some portion of this debris as they have best view of the situation from inside of this tunnel.
Ludicrous and childish suggestion. The workers cannot take that risk because it could end up collapsing even more and literally kill them. This is a very dangerous task.

If the auger tunneling had happened near the roof of the main tunnel near the food pipe, then the steel pieces would not have been encountered. Best wishes.

Should not attempt anything from the side where food pipe exist. They have started it from opposite side from beginning.

No, any boring from outside will fail as there were not only iron net with concrete as lining but vertical iron rods into the mountain to support whole mountain rocks ( & then lining is made) so there are vertical iron rods of 10 to 15 metres & then horizontal net of iron inforce concrete lining . Hence tunnels are strongest from outside but very easy to break from inside , just like an egg.
There is one catch & sure passage or weakest link of tunnel is from the groundbed or floor of the tunnel ,no lining vertically or horizontally no big bolder only natural bed which were already dig out ( diged above to make a tunnel ) similarly to make tunnel so good knowledge is available about the structure hard or soft .
Just below the floor dig the tunnel ( inches or foot down ), not within the debris or avoid debris it create problems.
Ony inside of tunnel is appropriate for boring .

So many options are being used. No doubt, human life is important but they shall weigh all options in advance instead of implementing all options together. It can cause permanent damage to constructed tunnel and may cause future accident.
Try finding coal mine workers who live their lively hood by Rat hole mining they can be the best way to rescue the workers.

Can't expect them to work which will increase the risk of them getting injured and no way to treat them.
Trapped persons cannot do any thing except during final openning nor they are having any tool to do. It is not easy to keep alive in such conditions for the trapped ones.Any how within 2-3 days they will be freed.
Ask workers to dig pending 6 meter tunnel from inside, they can do it within few hours
Who will save them if they get injured while removing the debris?
