    Dave, thanks for stopping on the road in the cascades to help us fix our shock dragging on the ground. We appreciate the “kindness of strangers” that you showed us. I’m happy to report that we have now bought tools and recovery gear and helped “pay it forward” by helping snatch someone else out of a ditch. Hope our paths cross again.

    I'm 74. I've seen a lot in my life. I used computers since before there was an internet. I remember the computer science dreamers - those who dreamt of the free and active exchange of life's experiences in real time. Your work epitomizes these ideas. Thanks - I guess there's hope for humanity after all.

    You just can't beat Western Oregon in the summer. So green. Then there's the rain, which can be discouraging. Mac and I have lived in Western OR a lot. Decided to go to Central to be away from so much rain. Loved the photography and Dave's tutorial on the edible plants.

    Hult/Horton log pond was the site of the Horton Log Mill and logging operation back in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Horton was my great grandfather and I have pictures of him and his sons pulling giant Doug Fir out of the woods with teams of oven. High Pass RD and Low Pass Rd were their routes for getting the lumber and logs to the rail head at Junction City.

    I am very curious as to how you survive financially while doing vanlife full-time. I know you make money off of YT and I know you guys have done the beet harvest in the fall the last few years. I also know that Carrie does professional photography when she can get a gig. But do you really make much money from YT with only 26K subscribers to fill in the gaps? I am not trying to be nosey about your finances. Just trying to get honest answers about how you make it through each year. You guys have been pretty honest about most questions and hoped you would for this one too. Maybe this would be good content for a video, Talking about all 3 jobs and your expenses, budget and so on?

    • @oneadVANtureatatime
      @oneadVANtureatatime  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Julie! Firstly we are extremely frugal! 😂 four years on TH-cam and it STILL DOES NOT pay enough to cover our monthly expenses! We supplement with a few side jobs a year. We just worked a small side job in Oregon and are just about to head east for the sugar beet harvest for the 3rd time. Last year we made enough money to travel for 8-9 months just from the sugar beet harvest, if we travel frugally. From time to time you will hear us give our patrons a huge “shout out”….. without them we would NOT still be doing the whole TH-cam thing. So between TH-cam, Patreon, amazon affiliate, and side jobs we manage to find funds to keep going😃 Then gas prices hit!! And it sets you back a bit….. but we have adjusted our travel to be slower.
      We are rich in experiences! If and when all the above no longer works we will give up yourube and work seasonal jobs 4-6 months and travel the rest of the year
      But for now we continue to trek on one month at a time and are still really enjoying the process and sharing with our viewers!
      Hope that answers your question.
      Carrie

    Can you please not publicly reveal local recreational spots. Oregon is a special place and when you publically offer specific locations…you literally contribute to these areas being over run and often not accessible by locals who have been enjoying this special area for decades.
    Come to Oregon, explore on your own find the spots we enjoy l, but then please do not go announcing locations to such specifics on the internet.
    Not to mention these are indigenous lands, have respect when you are traveling for the people who call this area home. Oregon is a special spot, let’s keep it that way with responsible travel, including how you promote on the internet.
    You can just as easily, make reference to a place without using a specific name and exact directions.
    Be vague, inspire curiosity which encourages folks to get out and explore our beaut fun state and find all we have to offer here , by looking themselves-it’s how we find our spots, but getting out and exploring.
    If you cared to actually understand how we live here in the PNW, you’d understand we don’t go announcing our hidden treasures to on the internet-which ends up overrunning areas, is less sustainable and more a a total disrespect to the people who call this area and Oregon home.
