I think saying gojo dying was part pf the plan is very nearsighted. Everything we've seen so far about their plans seem to be based upon contingency plan after contingency plan, when yuta talked about helping gojo to fight agito and mahoraga people told him to calm down because he had a specific purpose upon which their plans are dependent.

Kenjaku, gojo, kamo all just died off screen or really si ple, which ruins the whole manga and destory the rich history the show laid out,
Kenjaku has live centuries and yet a beheading ends him, yet he taught sakuna how to be a cursed item, so woudent he know rct or how tech to recover or revive like sakuna.

The only reason he could do that is because he could alter the shape of his soul. but since yuji could damage his soul if yuji somehow punched mahitos head off that would kill him.Edit, Actually I think for cursed spirits you need to destroy their brain specifically.
