The biggest problem is the financial crisis a PhD student goes through during the PhD term except for the institution funded ones. The students who pass through multiple highly competitive exams conducted by the funding agencies like DBT, DST, UGC, CSIR etc. Suffer a lot due to the untimely release of fellowship, which may be sometimes delayed by almost more than 6 months. And students are not supported by the institution or guide too. And who already are in stressful journey of a PhD and it becomes worse and people suffer from depression and some also leave PhD. These are bitter truths.😢
