    Hi Marly ! Thanks, I just finished my first knit thanks to this tutorial !! It took me 2 months and a half (oh yeah, I started in August ;) and I un-knitted everything at least once during this process. I adapted it to the kind of wool I had, but I almost did everything the same. We got our first snow yesterday in Canada and I’m so happy I got this in time ! I didn’t knitted since I was 5 years old with my last grandma and my mom, and I feel so grateful that I get to feel closer to her, up there, and my mom, 6000km away in France, by knitting myself. Thank you for taking the time to do a super detailed video, I wouldn’t have pursued without it.

    I really like how you included the continental stitch at 7:37 because there are a lot of tutorials that don't explain other ways to do the stitches.

    There's a video attached to the Yarnspirations pattern, but the instructor doesn't show how to do the seam. I wish I had seen this video the first two times I made a headband, but now I know it's here. Thanks Marly!!
    Also, I did a regular knit bind off for my first headband, but I found that edge to be much tighter than the long-tail cast on edge. Folks might wanna try a stretchy bind off so the tube will be stretchier!

    Finished, the headband looks good, it fits, it is warm, I was a bit worried, because I used different wool and more stitches, your explanation about little details is so good, I'm from Holland, living in Swizerland, at the moment it freezes an couple of degrees, I'm happy.

She has passed and I now you are helping me get out of my comfort zone by trying new patterns and techniques. I am producing beanies and sweaters like crazy! Positively going to knit this headband, super easy and never knew how I would do the twist. My question is you talk of the length of the head band being 21 inches, but how broad would the band be in inches. Can you make it broader at the start, if so by how many stitches approx. Warm wishes and many thanks , Yvonne

  • @saarreynhout

    Thank you so much for this video! I was wondering, since you use 39 stitches, and you start with a knit for the first row (at 5:50), your last one will also be a knit because it's an uneven amount. So shouldn't you start with a purl then for the second row (at 11:40) in order to put purls on top of stitches? I don't recognize the purl/stitches properly yet so I have to rely on memory :D

    • @MarlyBird
      @MarlyBird  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If I end with a knit, that makes it a purl on the other side. So when I turn my work, I will be looking at a purl so I want to knit it.

    • @saarreynhout
      @saarreynhout 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MarlyBird so in theory you always start with a knit in this case? That already explains a lot! Thank you

  • @lornatw
    @lornatw 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm so confused because I did 39 stitches same as you and I started with knit and ended with knit so surely I start with purl on the next row but you did not? You started with knit both times?

    • @MarlyBird
      @MarlyBird  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a seed stitch. You want to work the opposite stitch than what you see when the fabric is facing you. If you end with a knit, when you turn your work you will see a Purl so you will knit it.
      If I purled the Purl I would end up with stockinette stitch.
      Take a look at the written instructions too as that might help :)

    • @professorrhyyt3689
      @professorrhyyt3689 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      She was showing two different ways of knitting. Some people prefer the throwing (english) method and some the continental (yarn fed from the left). There are several more ways to knit, but these two are the most common ones.
