Odisha is named after the Odra tribe who are the natives of the Nayagarh region. Before the Jagannath culture came into existence,
Nilamadhav was worshiped as the Ishta devata or primary deity of Odisha, whose temple is located in the Nayagarh district. Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha, is also the original part of the Old Nayagarh or Ranapur kingdom(1900BCE), at that time Khordha district was not a separate entity but a part of the Ranapur kingdom.
