Tatsuda’s had just celebrated their 103 year anniversary a few months before the rocks came crashing down in the back I was employed there when it happened and Safeway hired us all on at their store with our same hourly wage and our normal schedule and the company that have been harvesting the rocks for landscaping etc., paid The Tatsuda’s for the loss of their store since Mr. Tatsuda didn’t have landslide insurance he however had everything else covered but that . Hope that helped 😀😇

We live in central Florida. We can get 90/10 ground sirloin in a chub for about $3.25/lb at Sam's. Our eggs at the warehouse club are over $10 for 36. The produce, chips, milk, etc are all about what we pay.

Ketchikan Gateway Borough population is around 13,700. A popular place to purchase local seafood is Fish from Trish. Our local Walmart is going thru a refit. Summer daytime shopping at Wal-Mart is challenging, very crowded with ship crew, they clean out the candy, nuts, chips and cookies. 😃. We usually stick to evening Wal-Mart trips. Glad you were able to enjoy some of our beautiful summer.

Thanks for the insights! We were told 8,000 for the city and around 13,000 for the Borough. Thanks for clarifying! My viewers just like to see stores in Alaska so I try to show them when I travel and when I shop locally! Thanks for watching

I loved the restaurant looking out on the harbor at the seals. I couldn't imagine how exciting that would be to experience in real life. I loved seeing Ketchikan, Alaska. You highlighted it's stores, restaurants, cafes, & were amazing with the history of the Tatsuda family owned store. So goad you & your Husband were able to enjoy yourselves at these various places. Enjoyed seeing everything with you both. Loved it!

I really enjoyed your video , I know I had already said it but I just wanted to let you know again 😀 it truly is a wonderful little island full of life and folks from all walks of life my husband and our son go on a lot of hikes with a few of our friends and take our boat out for fishing sometimes we’ll leave for a few days or so, and my son and I will do the grocery shopping and decide on our menu and keep a night open for the fresh catch of the day our boat sleeps 4 a nice 25ft boat loaded for fishing we have a fish finder that came with the boat but we chuckle when someone asks how it works on finding fish , we don’t need one , my husband was born and raised in Camas, Washington

I was supposed to go to Ketchikan some years ago with my family while on a cruise. Unfortunately the ship was unable to dock due to the weather. I'm the Cheesecake Queen, as Mark and Lee call me. LoL. Enjoy your dinner and your weekend. Back to my book... that is if I can get Dakota, the cat, to remove his royal furriness off of it 😻

It is interesting that you say Safeway is expensive. I personally have never been in one as I am not sure we have them in Ohio but I have friends allover that shop at them and they consider them a kind of a discount store? Like I said though I really don't know much about them. Truthfully I didn't think the prices were that off from many of the items you showed that we pay here in Ohio. I was really surprised. The A&P store...that was a bit pricey but it was nice to see some of the bulk items were available. Might have to do a little math with the two stored though if you have a larger family to see if the items really are a deal though. McDonalds believe it or not wasn't that far off either. I love your adventures and thanks for bring me/us along! I would really love to visit someday and really helps with deciding my possible adventure!! And that crab feast...OMG!! YUM! For years we went to a hole in the wall local hang out bar/restaurant on the gulf coast in Florida when on vacation for all you can eat crab leg night. The biggest legs I had ever seen. They stopped it the year before covid because of the cost of crab and then covid. Apparently it is slowly coming back. Fingers crossed all be good next summer when we go. Always a highlight for my family!!

Alaska is a lot like canada, always expensive. All the states lower then canada often are cheaper in one way or another. When I lived in British Columbia, we traveled to washington for cheaper groceries. Let the canadians tell you how much cheaper it is in those southern states. If the canadians are coming down, its cheaper. Since Canada is more expensive then the US and we pay taxes on dairy that the US doesn't. Dairy is always cheaper in the US and one of the most common items to bring back. We import most of our food too. Alaska would be in similar pricing as much of Canada.
