  • In this video, I stop by Petaluma Adobe State Park in Petaluma, CA for an exploration of the old Rancho belonging to General Mariano Vallejo in the 1800's. The interesting history of the area is preserved in the little museum, and in the rooms of the old adobe ranch house. It was a very interesting visit, and I invite you to come along with me!
This CA State Park is open daily from 10-5. Adults $3.00 and Children $2.00.

So much history! It's fascinating to learn about how much land Vallejo owned, and how many residences he had, etc. California history is interesting! Thanks, rvdawg, and happy wandering!

It was nice to finally have some time to explore this place....I passed it so many times on the way to "my" beach! I was surprised to hear how big this rancho was, and how many heads of cattle Vallejo once has here. Thank you for stopping by, Bre!

Such a beautiful area. They can keep that cactus though! I am sure they have to cut that stuff back all the time. Otherwise, it really would take over the entire park! Isn't it nice that you can come and go freely and enjoy that museum and no one has despoiled it. I wonder if they have to maintain all that leather by oiling it from time to time. I wonder if the Indians were free to come and go.

Hey Deb, you raise some interesting questions - some of which I have raised myself. When digging further into the history of Vallejo's treatment of the indigenous people, I have become aware of some atrocities. His treatment of the Native Americans was often not kind, and there is much more to the story than what I choose to elaborate on in these short videos of mine. As with much of history, I am disillusioned by the touristy headlines, and catchy overviews on plaques, etc., about Vallejo and this period of time. The more truthful documentation is out there, and can be found. Usually a quick visit to a place like this Rancho is just the tip of the iceberg, with much darker history lurking beneath the surface. Thanks for watching and being inquisitive. And yeah....that cactus is crazy!
