The last segment concerning consolidation within the other pro sports and the possibility of other competitors into their sport offer some insight. The NFL/AFL football consolidation was successful however since that merger there has been several attempts to offer an additional pro football league with currently 3 outdoor competitive leagues (2 are on their second attempt), plus 5 arena/indoor leagues with a total of 34 teams between them. With the pro disc golf sport at the bottom end of the money tree compared to other pro sports (football, soccer, basketball, baseball, and golf) it may at once be tempting for someone to start up another league but at the same time there is not enough total money and capitalization to perhaps tempt someone. Someone with spare money laying around who has a passion for disc golf may consider it but emotions usually do not make for sound business ventures.
There are just not enough high level courses that the DGPT doesn't control that would allow for a tour competitor to come in. IMHO. At least not here in the U.S. It's probably a completely different landscape overseas, which is where I suspect most disc golf growth will come from in the future, and which might prove to grow a competing tour.
At the moment, with most of the DGPT events happening on courses more focused on accommodating live spectators rather than good disc golf, I think there is space for a competing tour that focuses on good disc golf and a home audience. I'm not sure how that looks, or where the revenue comes from, but I think as technology advances to enhance that coverage experience, we could see our sport (course wise) go back to its roots where it belongs. That shift could open up room for a new competitor.
thank you for putting this together. i tried to stay up on the state of the tour but its got very confusing the last couple years

This is really well done.

Do they control courses that aren't on tour? What does "control" mean exactly?

Hooters scorecard girls didn’t catch on how? 😂
If live disc golf can look even 85% as good as post produced then we’ll be in good shape
Boy do I have news for you
Was that Casey Kasem announcing the '77 championship?
I had no idea dg was that old
I just wish they would learn how to communicate
