My father recently took his own life after losing a battle with a sudden mental illness. This only happened a month and a half ago. He was my best friend and we were extremely close. In the garage listening to music, as he did often with the crazy amount of audio equipment he had, he would listen to this song and say, "I love this song so much, it feels like it was made just for me". We played this at his funeral. I have only just turned 21 and my younger brother being 19, and we have listened to this song an infinite amount of times since his passing. Thank you Tyler for the memories and emotional connection with your music. This song was something very special to him.
I will play it for him and you boys Bradley. I recently discovered this song and have been listening to it a lot lately. My boy is 4 he likes to sing along.
I am sorry for your loss, boys. A person's mind is a powerful place and sometimes folks get lost in it. I hope you cherish the memories of your father. They will only become more valuable over time. Blessings and peace for you.
I just can't get enough of this jam! It's like catching up with an old friend you haven't seen in a while and feeling like you never spent a day apart. Cheers Tyler!
He doesn't need to sing to be better than the junk artists, he just has to say like 3 words and I'm already applauding way louder than most of the trash the radio has on loop.
A buddy of mine passed me the Purgatory album on Friday of last week. I have listened to the album on repeat since. This song, in particular, hits me in the feels. Everybody gets so caught up with all the noise in life, no one has ever expressed what perfect harmony feels like... this guy gets it. This will forever be one of my favorite songs. Not just because it is amazing, but because it's about so much more... Thanks for reminding us that all is not lost!
Folk from Texas have been doing it for years, look up cody jinks, Cory morrow, koe Wetzel, Aaron Watson, or Parker McCollum. And that's only about half a handful of Texas country artists. On a side note, Tyler Childers and Cody jinks would be a badass collaboration
My GOD this just made me cry my eyeballs out. What a poet. Tyler Childers is an incredible artist. Doing just what music should do, touching to the very heart and soul of a person. Phenomenal.
Thank you Tyler for this song. I've been to Pocahontas and the Cranberry Glades, and the universal sound is strong there. Love your music, please keep writing about my WV home and all our beauty!
Here's another song about Pocahontas, Virginia out there if you're interested. Scott Miller's Across the Line: th-cam.com/video/7MvSarCfUrQ/w-d-xo.html
I can't put into words how grateful I am to have had my long dead (but once indestructibly vibrant musical inspiration) resussitated & reinvigorated in just the very way he did it & I honestly feel like only he could as if part of some ethereal, existential plan. Anyway (getting carried away here) Tyler Childers is my fave band!!!
I didn't know 5000ft was considered a mountain. I only say that cause I live at almost 7000ft and I'm surrounded by 14,000ft+ mountains. But either way I'm glad you enjoyed it my friend and I definitely get where your coming from
This song reinforces my belief that "God" is music. Everything around you is held together by deep tones and sounds we can't hear. Sound is th only thing you can feel to your core and nobody has ever said they hate music. Music is used at the highest level of warship in all religions. I will die one day and my energy will ride the sound waves of the universe till I make it to that big concert at the center.
I agree with you but somewhere along the way we lost Logos. This new age zen definition of God has made society deteriorate. Boys are commonly growing up to be women. Women are no longer Motherly. And family values no longer sacred. The ancients gave us deity for a reason.
In my experience, God is in everything, and everything in him. Maybe even exists through everything. Music is (when properly done) a gathering of harmonized vibrations that can induce emotional and transcendent experiences, so I think you're right in a way. Maybe its the ultimate manifestation of perfect harmony. Religions have always tried to personify and reduce everything higher that us into pieces we can understand, and much of it is true, if vastly different perspectives of the same concepts. I think a lot of people miss truth while picking apart allegories in search of facts or clinging to dogma, but music is a sure way to experience "God," just like love, nature, meditation, psychedelics, etc. Tyler really got it right with this one.
This song makes me feel so weird, sort of nostalgic about my childhood, being more in tune with nature before life caught up with me. It’s almost overwhelming every time I sit and listen to these words. It’s my favorite TTC song by far.
Just discovered Tyler a couple of weeks ago he is now one of my favorite artists. I absolutely love his authentic sound in a day in time where there is so much "bro country" circulating around it is refreshing to hear someone with his flare and sound. I wont give it long and Tyler will be up there with Cody Jinks and Chris Stapleton.
This dude has the realest lyrics I've ever heard in every song. He sounds like me. A country man trying to be happy and be good and make my woman and kids happy. Good as good but lost as hell. Got a bunch of broken pieces but I got em gathered, probably as close as I'll be to having together. I just wish I was half as good with words. Hell I barely speak well much less write it down in such a way that it gets past the ears
I just heard this song today for the first time on a public radio station.. WOW! Incredible! Definitely one of my favorites now! Thank you for sharing this gem with us!
A rope swing the floor is lava a child's laughter brings both of them what can stop at the idea of a ghost and it's Universal to think that you can hide from it the universal sound is in essence Happiness Is Love its being an existing without fear. Man I'm a HUGE music snob, I mean who isnt. But man this flows! Went into a 7-11 and this random ass cashier in California where I live was playing this with his phone, I'm sure he could have thought I was gonna rob him. Little did he know I had spammed my shazam button just to know this song. This guy is the truth
Up in Pocahontas, near the Cranberry Glades Ain't got bars, nor the charge to call her anyways My mind's a mile a minute and my thoughts they bark like hounds I'm focused on my breathing in the universal sound I think about my darling girl, sleeping all alone I pray the stars will shoot her all the wishes she can hold On the day that I return, I aim to lay her down But right now, I am focused on the universal sound I think about tobacco juice and Masonjars of shine I think about the vices I've let take me over time I recall when I was a baby, I didn't need nothing around But a little bitty rattler and the universal sound I close my eyes It was all so clear It was all right then It was all right here I'm focused on my breathing in the universal sound I let it take me over from the toenails to the crown of the body that I’m in well they put me in the ground Then I return to the chorus of the universal sound I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace I've sat there on a bar stool, and I've looked him in the face He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down He was humming to the neon of the universal sound I focus on my breathin' in the universal sound
@@jasonferrell228 I will repeatedly play a certain part of the song too.. where he says a "little bitty rattler". This song is absolutely one of the best I've ever heard.... Very nice. Great lyrics. Love it. Just dont forget how good you sound without any arrangement. This would be powerfull just acoustic and belt out. Love the new stuff. Love the old stuff! Keep it up.
Ok as a man that loves the old you stay that way no matter what people think. That raspy voice is a hit just give it time look at other artists. Dont change for the industry just be you. In this world its hard to find someone real anymore. Your music bring cheers to my heart and would hate for you to change and I'm saying this from my camper at alcova, wyoming. And keep doing you my man!!!

This is a masterpiece.. Pure, simple, and real music.. Ive seen childers twice. Truly a great story teller..
went to highschool with tyler, hes the man. i never dreamed he would make this much noise being from a small kentucky town!
Joshua, was he as real as he seems? He must be a cool dude to know.
Chuck Turner yes he was awesome, we all used to get stoned and drink Miller on the weekends!
I know a couple guys who are pretty well known it's super weird!
Joshua - we are often overlooked and misunderstood!
busch light & tychi is awesome!
Pocahontas County & the Cranberry Glades. Love it Tyler when you sing about West Virginia & Kentucky. You represent us well. Keep those tunes coming.
Lol
I love this version! I love how the the sound bounces from ear to ear when you have your earbuds in. This album is genius and it's magic!
Larissa Muncy gotta agree with ya!
It's hard not to be genius when the great Sturgill Simpson produced it.
Wish I knew can't hear in 1 ear but this is still a great song
Tyler’s music stands on his own without sturgill by far he is an amazing writer but sturgill helped promote it forsure!
SpacedOut2U broooo yessssss I was just talking about that
I just can't get enough of this jam! It's like catching up with an old friend you haven't seen in a while and feeling like you never spent a day apart. Cheers Tyler!
Pick any of his songs and they’re better than the pop country junk on the radio!
I dont like this because radio country sucks. I like this because Tyler Childers is to my ears what heroin is to my veins.
He doesn't need to sing to be better than the junk artists, he just has to say like 3 words and I'm already applauding way louder than most of the trash the radio has on loop.

Kind of like sitting in a deer stand surrounded by nothing but peace. I don't even have to harvest anything...just sit in the quiet sounds.
Great albumn
Kentucky boys have truly decided to show the world what real music is, and I thank y'all
Brandon Little sure got that right
Yes, Sir. My kin folk are from Mildsbourough, Kentucky. (South East corner.)
Eastern kentucky voices just hit different. Morgan county is where my family was raised .
You're welcome brother🍻

Appalachian. Some of them are like 2000

I find God in laughter.

Yep, he's blowing up right this second. I discovered him last week, and his views have shot up like mad since then. He is incredible.
inexplicably weeping 45 seconds in, so. huh. what an amazing song.
This song has come during a shitty time going on for me right now. There's something so calming about it.
Simply amazing. I have yet to get through the 2nd verse without losing a few tears, it's just beautiful.
I'm an eastern KY boy and was passed your music from another one, brother you are the truth! Keep killing it!
Hey, us western Ky boys love em too.
One of the most amazing Songs ever written. Its a blueprint to find god in your life.
Can't wait another minute to see this man. Goin to Cain's tonight to finally see him live. Fuck yes
1.25x sounds more like the live version. Pretty cool. This man along with sturgills production is gold
Another reminder of the gift of music and how it moves the heart and comforts the soul.

this song made me realize I need to go sit in the woods for a while
Out there everyday now
Yes. You do
Made me realize I need to live there. So I am😉
You would be happier when you come back
Or make the kids sit in a boat on a Missouri river
Up in Pocahontas, near the Cranberry Glades
Ain't got bars, nor the charge to call her anyways
My mind's a mile a minute and my thoughts they bark like hounds
I'm focused on my breathing in the universal sound
I think about my darling girl, sleeping all alone
I pray the stars will shoot her all the wishes she can hold
On the day that I return, I aim to lay her down
But right now, I am focused on the universal sound
I think about tobacco juice and Masonjars of shine
I think about the vices I've let take me over time
I recall when I was a baby, I didn't need nothing around
But a little bitty rattler and the universal sound
I close my eyes
It was all so clear
It was all right then
It was all right here I'm focused on my breathing in the universal sound I let it take me over from the toenails to the crown of the body that I’m in well they put me in the ground
Then I return to the chorus of the universal sound
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace
I've sat there on a bar stool, and I've looked him in the face
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down
He was humming to the neon of the universal sound
I focus on my breathin' in the universal sound

I listen to this song every time I have a bonfire by myself. I feel like that’s the best way. For me anyway.
You s.o.b. I'm in. Much love tho to you and yours.
