Business enquiries: Railwaycatriiyu@gmail.com There was a driver change at Therapia Lane and the second driver insisted on closing the blind. Sorry for the sketchy video from that point!
Sometimes wondered what the tram journey was like; now I know. So, thank you for that. I was surprised at how much of it they have managed to produce as a totally dedicated system without running down streets.
I remember in the 80's it taking 1 hour to get to Croydon on the bus during rush hour. Now it takes 15 mins regardless of the time of day. Yes more Trams are needed.
Greetings from France. Very nice video! Back in 1971 I was in secondary school and stayed in Caterham during Easter break, we used to go to London by bus and would pass by Waddon Marsh HALT, then a rail station, quite funny to see it as a tram stop now!
Such a pity the blinds came down after Waddon Marsh. Actually, some of this route follows the earliest railway namely the Surrey Iron Railway built in 1820. The carts were hired and were pulled by horses. I travelled the British rail train from Wimbledon to West Croydon which more or less follows the tram route.
we have in the bay area of San francisco and the surrounding areas a tram system called BART Bay Area Rapid Transit, and the funnest things for the kids is to be able to watch through the doors window of where the operator sits , but like here, then they always tend to eithr hang their jacket or whatever totally blocking the view....
Quite scenic. Especially from New Addington. I rode Tramlink from Beckenham Junction to Wimbledon on a visit from the US around 2000. My home city Portland Oregon has a tram system called Tri Met MAX.
I just returned home from London and I had a wonderful time during my long-overdue vacation. I loved riding this tram, and I see my favorite chicken place coming in @ 21:05 - KFC! Thank you so much for this awesome upload.
There must be a security system in this place, which applies the emergency brakes in case of excessive speed. Valencia metro accident in 2006 was caused due the same reason, as AWS was not present.
Canada Russ here, i wish i could travel 🇪🇺 but now here we are, day 800ish of covid.. it seems traveling anywhere is forever done.. i love you all my fellow man! Please be kind and respectful to your fellow man.
totally agree, theres no aws to remind drivers of the severe speed reduction just coming out of the tunnel at 13.57, why dont they have speed limit boards at the side of the track? surelt its gotta help on the slow bends if there was a board displaying the max speed limit just before the bend, just like u have on the railway,
I've noticed that, as you come out of the tunnel, the oncoming track in the distance helps to kid you that the line goes straight on. A new or inexperienced driver (or one who's just half asleep) could make a mistake.
yeh i thought that, because uve got that other line joining it u could easily think that was your track just carrying straight on. Im surprised at the sheer speed that these trams do, thought they would only do 30 mph max
The New Addington run is interesting. Between Addington Village and the Sandilands Tunnel, you really feel like you're in the countryside; next minute you're in Central Croydon!
We call it a tramway (and the units are trams) here in the UK. Technically its classed as light rail tramway. Most systems running today in the UK are of that type. Germans called it Strassenbahn, or "street train" as it is a light rail unit that shares some level of running on the road with road traffic, such as the Berlin and Cologne (Koln) systems.
An excellent video, thanks a lot. I want more of tram videos if possible. But why the majority of tram stops are on the left while a few others are on the right? Interesting. Do all London trams have doors on both sides?
A terrific idea to reduce traffic congestion. Glad to see so many people taking advantage of a worry free journey. Where is the control centre operating the signals and points? Obviously, location of each tram must be known. Wish this scheme could spread to other towns and cities!
A bit late but the control centre is based at Therapia Lane, from 28:30 on the left hand side. I think the points/signals are set locally though, would have to recheck that
at every stop keep hearing that recording about a penalty Fare, would hate to guess how much extra THAT penalty fare actually is...LOLO 23:32. Gotta pick up the speed to make it up that hill...lol
I saw one tram vid where it slipped back down to the bottom. The driver reversed for a bit at the bottom then it was pedal to the metal all the way up. Autumn leaves, hills and tram track dont mix.
Too bad the wiper was on from 07.30 to 14.00. Even in the tunnel. I didn't see any raindrops. But I enjoyed the ride, especially on those fast straight paths!
Those announcements get somewhat annoying after a while. Surprised to see a driver, i was expecting a computer especially with those nasty sharp turns. Imagine if the driver was half asleep coming out of that tunnel - i swear i could see the tracks going straight on. Looks like there is an extra center rail at 23:35 for extra power up that hill lol
Im in training right now at Croydon Tramlink. They usually advertise around twice a year for drivers and have just taken down their advertisement so it may not be for a while yet. You don’t need any qualifications in particular, although you need a full UK drivers licence. You need to pass assessments, such as a concentration test, an interview and a medical. Hope that helps. I’m aware you posted this comment 4 years ago but I replied in case you’re still interested
Daniil Trokhimenko they are there to prevent trespassing on to certain sections of the track. Particularly Sandilands Tunnel section and on the Wimbledon branch which is classed as a closed piece of track.
Hi there. Can you please confirm that this is your own footage? If so, may we use it on BBC News and Social outlets? Please email haveyoursay@bbc.co.uk. Thank you.
Unbothered No. Unlike mainland trains the signs are in kilometres per hour NOT miles per hour. The trains themselves have a top speed of 80kph (50 in mph)
Two McDonald'ses in Croydon, maybe it's the closest distance between them ever in the world, except ones which are on different sides of motorway gas station
Had to watch with the sound muted. That so-called music was enough to drive a person to suicide and spoilt an otherwise excellent video. David Cutter should be prosecuted for fraud. A two year old could have come up with that horrible repetitive row! Music it was NOT.
The engine sound reminds me a lot of the Type T Metro trains of Vienna when they still had GTOs. I miss that sound.
Jesus
London is so big
Some parts looks like a big city and some parts looks like a small rural town
This isn't even central London lol this is all the 'outskirts'. Some parts aren't officially London at all!
@@MikeWillSee yes the are you must be stupid new Addington was considered part of London in 1913
Sometimes wondered what the tram journey was like; now I know. So, thank you for that. I was surprised at how much of it they have managed to produce as a totally dedicated system without running down streets.
Remember seein the line constructed between new Addington & Lloyds park in 1999.
Really is a shame there isnt more of this sort of light rail/ tramways in other parts of London, similar to the Paris system.
I remember in the 80's it taking 1 hour to get to Croydon on the bus during rush hour.
Now it takes 15 mins regardless of the time of day.
Yes more Trams are needed.

It closed in 1997 under network southeast

Enjoyed the BART on my travels, but the interiors could do with a good clean and upgrade!
Quite scenic. Especially from New Addington. I rode Tramlink from Beckenham Junction to Wimbledon on a visit from the US around 2000. My home city Portland Oregon has a tram system called Tri Met MAX.
How can some cities have such awesome tram system. Amazed .
I just returned home from London and I had a wonderful time during my long-overdue vacation. I loved riding this tram, and I see my favorite chicken place coming in @ 21:05 - KFC! Thank you so much for this awesome upload.
No probs! Glad you enjoyed it.
Enjoyed the chicken?
I love the ends , no matter how dangerous people say it is , i was born and bred there and i love it especialy the transport
Well, thanks for posting the video. I used to live in Croydon, that was 60 years ago. In West Coast of Canada now.
Glad you enjoyed it
This line was the location of the tram accident, the location of it is at about 13:57 on the video.
Pretty much slows to 10mph to take that corner in the video...
Grich Al please
The line speed is 50mph through the tunnel, but slows to 12mph on the corner.
There must be a security system in this place, which applies the emergency brakes in case of excessive speed. Valencia metro accident in 2006 was caused due the same reason, as AWS was not present.
You can't have AWS without signals?
I love it how the camera shakes when it goes fast
That second driver was a knob. If I knew someone behind was videoing the journey I wouldn't have done that as it not very nice
lel yeah
I was born in Addo in 1952.There used to be Trolley buses. They were known as 'Whispering Death!'
In Glasgow they were known as `Silent Death !`
Excellent work.
Thanks for your support 👏

The New Addington run is interesting. Between Addington Village and the Sandilands Tunnel, you really feel like you're in the countryside; next minute you're in Central Croydon!
now this is a decent light rail
Hobo G it's a tram
Pig Gamer Tram is light rail

@@axeljonsson151 No, light rail has specific tracks for the trams, tramways are more on-road, the vehicles are called trams.
@@TransportofPerth It uses alot of seperate track and has a high operating speed, therefore it can be, and is, classified as light rail.
An excellent video, thanks a lot. I want more of tram videos if possible. But why the majority of tram stops are on the left while a few others are on the right? Interesting. Do all London trams have doors on both sides?
Gotta love New Addington, place has a bit of character to it
13:26 Never seen a tram accelerating tht fast
Trams accelerate fast. An example of this is between wandle park and waddon marsh.
The train company my dad works they don't think it was going 50 at the corner because the tram wasn't that much damaged

wow! very beautiful infrastructure!
Such a great video of a tram!!
Thanks for your support 👏
Love this street running. Hey, wait! There's a Kentucky Fried Chicken place. Let me offf.
That KFC was huge looked like it had 3 buildings on the street.
Its tiny inside!
tramfan not really it a 2 floor kfc
I’ve had a phobia of trams ever since the sandilands accident
So this helps me
Cats are the best that was human error. Don’t be scared of tram, be scared of human operating the tram.
TransportFlick thank you
14:00 this is where the accident happened
RIP for those that perished.
Hope the injured made a full recovery.
Don’t take me back please…
And that is why they slow down
awsome vid thank you for this posting i realy enjoyed it super
Thanks for your support 👏
I know I’m late but I get the tram to school from therapia lane to Merton park
14:20 the points are set for the other line! I guess we just bumped over the rails. A lucky day.
Those are loose points, which means they're not remotely controlled and are only moved by the tram itself (there are some of them on the Tube too)
I wish there was London trams in north london

Never been on the tram system. This is closest, I'll get
Great camera work .
Thank you!

13:50 imagine going 50mph as we were told it was going. rip.
Because all the signs on the Tramlink are in KPH, that means he would have to have been going 80 in 20, x4 the limit, I can't believe that somehow..
Yeah that's what I thought too, seems not believable
They really are going quite fast through there. You could hear the tram slowing down in a very short space of time too.
I was in this video but u won't know who's me
Wow beautiful! 😍🌹👌
Hello friend, masarap sumakay,.no passenger.. thank you
Nice journey but how frequent are the trams in peak and off-peak hours?

Slowing at even the gentlest of bends must be discomforting..oh well.
*13:40** Yesh the corner Tram driver*
Nice video.
Thanks!
In Cologne drive the same Tram on the Lines 1,7,9,12,15
Hi. Do you know where I can apply a job for TFL Tramlink? And what qualifications do I need?
I cant remember where you apply but you need two gcses

Pity about the blind.
18:30 The Gemini 3 buses on route 119 were alot. Still today
Why did the driver close blinds if you can just a. look out the side window or b. still see through the front.. strange
cus some drivers are just like that sadly
Reminds me to the K5000
Wohl eher an die K4000. Die CR4000 und die K4000 sind nämlich nahezu identisch
At George Street I would not have stopped because it is not that visible
Drivers are alert while driving trains & sensible. Common people have proper awareness in European countries.
i use this route a lot because Belgrave Walk is local to me
Let’s face it, You’re here for 14:00.
Ye kinda R.I.P
No I actually came for the tram ride
What are those wooden triangles in the middle of the track?
Daniil Trokhimenko they are there to prevent trespassing on to certain sections of the track. Particularly Sandilands Tunnel section and on the Wimbledon branch which is classed as a closed piece of track.
klassz a video de kár hogy a megállok ninxsenek kiirva❤❤❤
Thanks for watching 😺
Hi please you can halp me I want this corss how I can do it please
The blind effect really spoilt the film
Whats the point of that blind
I think "privacy" for the driver, but its pretty pointless. The newer trams on the system do not have it.
👍
13:45 The guy left on reflection was scared
What’s the top speed on this tram?
80kph
37:07 ooh interlaced track
I live near the BP garage at 6.00
14:04 is this were the tram crashed happened?
2000guineas It was indeed
