We are very grateful to you and others like you that share your knowledge with us. In 2017 here in PR we faced a horrible situation due to Hurricane Maria. We were many months without running water, and without electricity. Delinquency got so bad we were put in a curfew. People had to stay in line for gasoline to run their generators and many left lines after hours waiting without it because gasoline would finish, the curfew time hit and there was some cases of individuals skipping all the line and getting gasoline at gun point. Some got creative and went to car dealerships and stabbed the tanks to rob the gasoline in the new vehicles. In my neighborhood some men got together to patrol the area every night because strangers were entering our lands. To think about going through this again is scary but preparedness is key, and survival is a must. Some people had their generators day and night, I couldn’t believe it. And got upset because they couldn’t run their AC. In a situation like this we can’t be thinking of living the same as before but to make the most of what we have. We cannot afford being wasteful. We need to teach everyone at the house to be proactive because the burden could be very overwhelming if it falls only on one person. We need to even think on the clothes we wear. We are in the Caribbean so it was a very hard time for us. So I only allowed my family to wear clothes that were easy for me to handwash. There was a separate set of clothes for yard work for my son and I and wore the same clothes for days for outside. Something like going to the bathroom was a big issue but I don’t want to go there, 😂. We were advices to eat one clove of garlic daily to stay healthy. So trying to achieve health now, makes the difference of the world. Many died of Leptospirosis. There wasn’t much vegetation and mice and rats got in our basements. And people didn’t take precautions with water. We might not be able to think of every single scenario, but videos like this gives us a heads up, and makes us think about areas we need to improve. Thank you so much!
I never heard of the leptospirosis. But I do have rat traps because since Covid and restaurants shutting and no food in dumpsters, they migrated to residential areas. They also got into the FEMA debris piles again that sat for months in Florida after Hurricane Ian. We are still fighting them up n the garden
@JeannetteMarrerro3361. You do realize that weather warfare and weather modification are real I hope. They steered 2 hurricanes sequentially over Puerto Rico to wipe it out and force migration off the Island of the lower class and middle class. Now the rich hedge fund managers have gone there and bought up EVERYTHING from el Viejo San Juan to schools, etc through these pennies on the dollar govt investment programs. Hmm. All planned. But, these hedge fund managers will get bored in the medium term and be gone, leaving it in shambles during the current economic downturn which will get way worse. Who really wants la Isla del Encanto is the big question y'all need to be asking yourselves.
Thank you for your post, I had heard that things were tough in Puerto Rico but had not heard any first hand accounts. Such experiences were no doubt terrible, but you emerged from it. I commend you on you strength and courage!❤
I would like to actually hear about what you all did for the bathroom and if any tips you can share on that subject to help us that are in locations where we cant just go into the woods or those in Apartments.

Before my retirement from a Nevada State agency, I was required to be certified in Incident Command Center training. That training spurred me into family preparedness. No one is coming to save you. It's important for each of us to become self reliant.

My biggest worry is the friends and family that think they’re going to bunk with us when SHTF!
Right!
I tell anyone who knows we have a garden that if the SHTF and you think you are coming here you better have food, water, guns and a skill I don't possess. Other than my kids and grandkids the rest of them are on their own.
Same!
This is why I'm very particular with whom I share info with. I do think of my grown kids/ families when I prep but they didn't know that. I've told them and they agreed after some discussion that having a minimum of 6 weeks of food etc was a good idea. After an initial smart aleck comment of " we'll just come stay with you, and my firm response, they started to see the light. They changed their tune about coming empty handed.
My kids and grandkids are more than welcome, but they know they better be ready to work hard.
I’m 56. My prepping is no longer about the continuation of My life, but the survival of my children and grandchildren. My life is complete and blessed. I want to give THEM, the best possible chances to live a full life.
Many blessings and much Aloha 🌴🤙🏽🌋
Part of the next generation surviving is for you to continue to live long enough to teach them how to survive without you
Sad to say we’re running out of time. I made sure my eternity is secure.
I'm not worried about FEMA, I'm more worried about the homeless drug abusers breaking into my home, looking for whatever they can sell. But, they'd better come well armed and much better trained than I am! I'm 61, and after everything I have survived so far, I'm not ready to lay down and give up yet!
Druggies are easy to knock over 😂
@meldlew that depends on what they're high on. Some drugs rob them of the ability to feel pain while they are on a "trip." I knew a state trooper up in Delaware who was almost killed in a hand to hand fight with someone. That trooper was using a "night stick," but it was ineffective. It took 7 additional officers to take the man down without using firearms. They didn't want to shoot someone at a high school football game due to the risk of hitting an innocent bystander. My father's friend recovered from his injuries but had to transfer out of the patrol division.
1963. Great year
DITTO IM WITH YOU IM79
My town, like many others, has a real problem with the 'Section 8' (welfare) housing, and the druggies/homeless population. Several of their camps have been totally cleaned out, they were disgraceful, with garbage and probably sewage, going into the waterways. They climb over the chain link fences at Tractor Supply and steal things, and as the crow flies, it is six miles from my little haven. I worry too, but they aren't bullet proof should it come to that. Every time the town gets pressured by the general public about the horrific camp, they finally go clean it out, but the people just move up or down stream a little. I used to be a corrections officer, and the jail is no place for them either, it's already crowded. I don't know the solution, but all I can say is, they better not hurt me or my property.....sad but true.
My philosophy is to never underestimate evil men.
Regular people do more in a disaster than FEMA has.

Pump the brakes! As a former FEMA officer, the 4Th amendment prohibits ANY agency from imposing any such nonsense, period. I would be more concerned about unprepared people next door or down the road...lock and load!
But yet they approved other mandates for putting certain things inside your body...or lose your fema job?!
The govt. would ignore the 4th amendment.....
There are documented reports from people who lived through the Great Depression that "government" men showed up at people's homes to investigate if they had more than the allowed rations on hand, so people got crafty in how and where they hid their food. Just because you didn't live through that doesn't mean it didn't or won't happen. Because it DID. And WILL!
SMH people underestimate this government! Keep telling yourself that FEMA (government) wouldn't do certain things.

Hi. Billy Bob on the corner here. 1 week after I will have contacted the veterans, law enforcement and medical professionals in my neighborhood as well as stocked my rabbit cages with wild rabbits from my live catch traps (feeding them with the stuff I put in my compost from my garden now). I will be harvesting squirrels with air rifles and placing them in a large stock pot with rice and fresh/canned veggies on a wood stove in my backyard and giving away bowls to neighbors that can't feed themselves. I will have work (tending the garden, hunting, animal husbandry and helping with projects that I will be working on. Some of my veteran neighbors will be teaching the skills they learned in training and setting up the security. I hope that others are as well prepared and organized. Always praying that we never need it Rob Pickard.

The biggest worry is the public as a whole.
If it's a case of an EMP even FEMA won't be coming around unless they're all on foot.
"EMP Shield" can be installed on vehicles, generators...
Government (military) vehicles are hardened for emp events. So, they will have the ability to drive up and harass.
I've heard from folks who go in to help in catastrophes (tornado damage, etc.) that FEMA pretty much shows up, stands around with clipboards, and looks busy.
And the key word is 'looks'.
@@darlas5762 yep
A group dealing with a local town that had flooded had gotten organized and set up cleaning kits for the local families to start to recover their homes and a FEMA person simply walked in and said he was taking them for another community. Problem was that this was organized in a fire department garage and the coordinators and fire men stepped in and told FEMA that the kits were for that local town and other people would just have to step up. They didn't mind pushing around a church group but the fire chief and his men were another story. We distributed those kits fast.
And fema takes up all the motel rooms forcing those that are actually there to restore services to sleep in their vehicles, campers or tents. Fema is totally useless.
@@anndennis7163so in other words FEMA would rather take what has been gathered for a community disaster to supply for another community. Good job on the firehouse. The churches are there in that community to support the community first and need to get the supplies to those in need before FEMA arrives. Most communities need to have their own CERT program to provide support to those in need during disasters.
Postal drivers will park their vehicles in fear of getting their mail and vehicle stolen

I had to deal with FEMA. Our area was declared a disaster because of tornadoes and hail. I would think the govt would take warehouses of food first.
That's for the elites to take to their bunkers!!!
The governor mentioned has its own bunkers full of food and necessities. So do the elite.
We only need to worry about our extended family members and neighbors. They are the ones who will come knocking & begging the first time and will return after you say no.
The government has food stockpiled in the caves for themselves
Not sure of the details, but DHS is already embedded into many warehouses and factories.

If FEMA and the rest of the government didn't take control of the grocery stores in March 2020, they're not coming to individual homes ever. Besides, they would never take home-canned or repackaged food. You're right, the neighbors are a greater concern, as well as those who might "scavenge" in an shtf situation.
Never say never.
They won’t take home canned food, they will destroy it
Heck FEMA didn't even take control of the companies making PPE back in 2020. That was in much shorter supply (and more relevant to the crisis) than simple canned goods.
@@KellyS_77 I think they did use the Defense Production Act for the manufacture of a few items, but not wide-scale or taking over local businesses. Everyone was paid for the products.
I am glad that the general public is afraid of eating home canned food, and agencies seem especially paranoid about it. That makes my pantry a lot less appealing to them. I am really more concerned with skyrocketing prices. At what point will I be unable to afford restocking my pantry shelves? I am already cutting back on purchased groceries because of the expense. If inflation runs wild, how long can I hold out until there is nothing left? This is a problem that a lot of people will be facing in the weeks and months to come.
Knowledge is Power!!
I'm a pepper to save money, not because I'm a fear monger.
While I mostly agree with you I also have seen what happens when our government enforces the emergency act. It sure was an eye opener!
“I have a wood chipper and pigs.” Waahahahaha!! LMAO!!
The only quibble that I have is that they can combine state, local, and federal agencies in the event of a serious emergency.
They can't coordinate effectively now, in a shift situation, they are the least of your concerns
When sh** really hits the fan, all bets are off.
Indeed…. 😱
It would be local L-E-O that would confiscate food - for their families.
Really appreciated the sarcasm in your message, it made total sense 😊 if worse comes to worse can I borrow a few pigs 😎
We had a storm knock out power for days. FEMA came and reimbursed myself and my neighbors for the foods lost. It was amazing and quick. Cards in hand.
Thank you for the positive testimony. My dad worked in disaster relief for decades alongside FEMA (not directly with FEMA) and always saw people eager to help in the majority of cases. Because of the chance to travel and make decent money, sometimes they’d get people that weren’t great workers, but I guarantee you they weren’t called back up again in FEMA or the group my dad worked with. It’s disheartening to see some of the comments made about FEMA and the disaster workers and some of it is questionable. Sometimes I think people like to foment drama, catastrophizing (which is how the whole conspiracy crap gets around), etc.
I think I need a woodchipper and pigs, LOL!

Even when being confronted with facts, they usually pivot to some other facet of their consiracy loving narrative to attempt to drop another false conspiracy into the mix to debunk the facts. It's almost as if they are addicted to entertaining themselves with this stuff. I sincerely appreciate your time and effort to bring a level- headed perspective to the table. There's A LOT of alarmism out there these days, as you are very aware. Im with you on the stand your ground position and my local postal workers would be like yours. My biggest worry about my pantry is .... heat and light getting to it and minimizing its shelf life.
Fact check is not truthful. It only says what you want to believe, everything in this world is run by government who I believed before I woke up. They do not work for your benefit. They work for themselves.
There are federal properties everywhere for FEMA to use. When they came to my area they used the 4H property nearby. Even if they were in the need they would get it from companies with the ability to produce large amounts of foods to support a community in need and they would be highly compensated.
Living in a mobile home, fire or a hurricane/tornado is more concern for us.

My biggest pantry concern. Is not FEMA, it's mice or 🐜 ants.
Get free plastic buckets from the bakery department. They have a gasket in the lids that make them air tight and too much work for mice.
Glass canning jars will help with that especially if you can vacuum seal them. Lots of info on YT for that.
Ain’t that the truth!!!

To answer the question you asked at the end: My biggest fear for my pantry is that my storage racks will fail and I'll lose all my home canned food. I think it's highly unlikely based on the weight rating for the shelving, but I worry anyway. The store bought stuff would still be fine, so it's not like we'd lose everything.
A certain TV personality (whose name rhymes with Spalex Spones) spent a LOT of time talking about everyone being put in FEMA camps. There's also an awful lot of preppers (and people in general) that can't seem to separate fictional books and films from actual real life.
FEMA would have to go back a whole lot of Costcos, Sam's Clubs, and regular grocery stores and their distribution centers before they get to little old you or me. Yes, you might have a large pantry, but I assure you that the Piggly Wiggly or Kroger a city next door has more food than your house (or anyone's) could ever hold.
That act is, I believe, more a response to massive natural disasters and wars.
(I think FEMA is kinda useless, and usually offers no help at all or help comes too little and too late. I don't worry too terribly much about the neighbors. They think all I do is make pickles and jam)
Spalex Spones. You made me laugh out loud. I'm still smiling. 😂
Plastic milk crates are great for storing Mason jars of food and stack securely. Also easy to move.
People quickly , easily, and merrily engage in committing horrors against others . Just doing their “job”. The powers that should not be know this all too well.
I prep foods we eat. The good thing is, the government or those who would take it away, generally wouldn't want it. I blanche chopped kale and dehydrate it. I dehydrate brocolli shreds without blanching, because it is great as a noodle substitute. I dehydrate riced caulifower, without blanching, because that makes a great rice substitute. I dehydrate shredded cabbage, without blanching, because I can rehydrate and actually make a coleslaw with it. A little odd? Yes it is. But my body can't stand wheat and all the usual processed foods. I developed these as substitutes for health and rv travel. The people that would rob you, also don't know how to cook in the first place! I loved your take on the concerns!
@@diann546 don’t underestimate starving strangers.

You can't donate home canned goods to the food banks. What makes you thing the gov't is going to take your home canned goods?
I live out In the middle of a forest and a bit tricky to find my home even the GPS gets mixed up so I'm not really worried about FEMA. Thanks Leisa for another great video and keep on canning
We're from the gov't and here to help you. Fema/martial law/gov't...Love your positive crystal ball. 😂
Thank you so much for staying sane. I've stopped watching so many homesteader/prepper vlogs I previously enjoyed because so many of them have just gone down the rabbit hole! It's like they have lost all common sense. It's like a competition, who can come up with craziest conspiracy theory. Then they all copy and repeat this nonsense. The last 4 years I've been asking the same question over and over........Where are all the normal people? 🤔
I'm too busy to go crazy 🤣🤣
Watch the Kramers and The Modern Yeoman (?)
All of your detailed and very thorough research won’t stop the consp1racy theorists from, a-hem, commenting; but I’m with you! Having worked for the federal government for several years, I can definitely support that the federal worker bees will be at home with their families, not rounding up individuals’ food. And their “organized” efforts would look more like the Keystone Cops than any coordinated effort.
Exactly 🤣
🎯🎯🎯 I am so over all the fear mongering and conspiracy theories. People have lost all critical thinking skills. But that's how the fascist wannabes want you: uneducated and afraid.
I love you..."Wood chipper and Pigs"...I really Love it...Speak truth.
Talk about a breath of fresh air. Keep speaking real stuff. Way too many channels screaming FEAR. I figure it as not prepping per se, but My family did this stuff when I was a kid. It was just living.
Hahaha I subscribed right at” I have a wood chipper and pigs” pure gold.
Thank you for this. It’s so frustrating. After my dad left the military he worked in defense and space contracting for a while. After being laid off repeatedly according to who was in office, he got a job with disaster relief with the federal government, which allowed him to maintain his government pay rank (forget what it’s called) and be able to maintain his pension. He didn’t work with FEMA, he worked with the SBA, but he worked alongside them and they were all salt of the earth people. They never confiscated anything and they compensate VERY WELL those whose land might be requested if any was needed to be able to house people that had lost homes. In most cases, however, hotels were provided. I’ll have to ask him for sure, but I don’t think he ever saw a situation where land was used that was in use whatsoever and whomever owned the land was compensated very very well. One of the things they do is make sure that no one is going and buying up all of the available water, gas, essential resources, and generators at the stores as this happens (not what you’ve stored on your land over the years) and then price gouging people in a crisis. That’s the only time they will step in and put the brakes up. It’s illegal and immoral to do this. Take what you need and that’s it. They aren’t going to come and take anyone’s property, food, prepped resources that they’ve spent years accumulating for themselves, but you also can’t go and resell at prices that are clearly well beyond market value to profit on someone else’s suffering. Yes, you can sell your resources and barter, but you can’t price gouge. This is immoral and illegal. Another thing they do is give grants to help cover costs while you get your life back in order, help cover deductibles and food and hotel needs while you’re unhoused due to a disaster. And remember that every time people from FEMA and SBA are called to come in and help that they are called away from their families for long stretches of time. There were times my dad was gone for two years and more. And just as he would be finishing with one disaster he would be called to go somewhere else for another disaster. It was hard for our family. And he got threatened by people making similar accusations that people are making online about FEMA and people would come in angry and be really hateful when he and others were just there to help. Most places were grateful, but there were definitely certain places where they got a lot of flack for their presence regardless because of these rumors. Remember how the military was treated returning from Vietnam, yeah some people treat disaster relief workers the same way. I don’t get it. But it was only in certain areas. Most were great. I haven’t finished watching the video, but am at the part where you’re explaining what they do at around 5 minutes in. I will finish but I’ve been sick and am horribly tired and saw the name of the video and got a little worried because of soooooo much misinformation. I remember a professor I had in the early 1990s in Texas that would have us watch these conspiracy videos about FEMA, the military, and AIDS. My dad was already working for disaster relief by then and it was really upsetting. I know it’s hard to decipher sometimes but there’s a lot of information out there that is easy to find that is good and accurate. He worked in disaster relief from about 1991 to 2019 when he developed a whole in his macula and it became too difficult to focus on a computer screen to help people with applications (that was what he did - he helped people process their insurance claims and also find out if they qualified for any grants from the federal government and if not if he could help them get a loan to cover what they needed and to keep their businesses afloat if needed. Which reminds me, please please please do not fall for a frequent scam I see on places like Facebook where people say that if you message them or click on a link they post that they will be able to get them money from the SBA and/or FEMA and that they claim to be agents of these organizations. THEY ARE NEVER FEMA OR THE SBA. They are stealing from you - your identity and your money. That’s not how anyone that works for SBA or FEMA works with the public. All of these are scams. Please be careful out there.
Edited to qualify that I meant not what you store over the years for yourself, but watching out for people going and buying up all of the resources locally so that no one can get any water, gas, generators etc., so that they’re forced to then buy from individuals at outrageous markups that are price gouged rates. Even companies get in trouble for this and that’s something else FEMA and SBA did was to monitor for situations where companies were taking advantage too. By all means, save over the years for yourself as much as you want. That’s never frowned upon. In fact, they have information sheets, if you live in disaster-prone areas especially, on recommendations for what you should always have on hand in case of emergencies.
My biggest concerns in protecting my pantry are fire and tornado.
Mine, too!
As always, a calm voice of facts & common sense in this crazy world. Thank you!
It's great to see someone educating common sense preparedness!! Thank you!!
Prep enough to provide for friends and family.
Best book about partial collapse and being prepared is 299 days by Glen Tate. Opened my eyes.I agree with your mom, I don't want to live in a world where I have to worry about people stealing from me to live. But, I don't want to survive something terrible and find I'm unprepared and starving. My biggest reason for putting food by is a hedge against inflation. Food prices are crazy and getting crazier. Preparedness doesn't have o be something crazy but you'll be glad you did it.
Loved thar series,
Future inflation is the reason I started canning when I was staring 60 in the eye. I may not have a woodchipper and hogs (use to), bit I have a 4 month puppy who weighs 45 pounds already! The local animal control officer was at the vet's office when I took her to get her shots. One woman asked how large will she get? Over a 100 pounds. The animal control officer looked at her paws, which are the size of my hand, and said, "Try 130 pounds." And she isn't friendly with strangers. And most of my rural neighbors have similar animals.
Tell it like it is, Leisa! Thanks again for your videos.
Leisa, I just love your plain speaking, no nonsense, common sense attitude! GET THE FACTS PEOPLE!!! You're the bomb lady. :=) ❤
During these times the worst thing any of us can do is panic. Panicking is what made Covid a madhouse. People lose all reasoning when they panic. First thing to do is don't panic.
Covid proved people were completely stupid and could be manipulated beyond belief.
we got MORE to worry about China and all the land the own its next to or close to our BASES!
Yeah, let FEMA confiscate them bases...
I'm from the government and I am here to help
Love this community. It keeps food preparedness on the forefront of my mind. I know it takes lots of diligence on your part to keep us informed and motivated throughout the week. Thank you!
Remember...TAKE... not pay you for it, but TAKE!
My biggest worry is my other half going binge eating and snacking his way through what we have stored so far! Or on the other hand, keeping the pantry pests away from our preps in the first place!! Really great video that gets right to the truth!!
“Poop in a group” 😂😂😂 I just recently found you. You’re fabulous. I wish we were close enough to be “friends”!
THANK YOU!!! I'm so tired of people (certain TH-camrs) fear mongering that the govt is coming after your stuff! It will absolutely be your neighbors/extended family etc...
I'm too old to worry about the what it's. I have been preparing and set for what comes. But I will not sit by and worry about it. I know what I need to do and it's just a matter of at my age can I do what needs to be done to protect what I have for mine and my family's survival
That rooster makes me happy. I miss my Roos. 😊
You are really one of the only prepping channels I like watching because you are based in reality and not a big fear monger. Your videos are practical and don't seem like an infomercial. Thank you!
“I got a wood chipper and pigs” 🤣 I nearly spit out my coffee! Loved it!
