Sometimes you just have to dig to find the good stuff even if that means coming face to face with a couple of skunks. Sliding under tons of rock reveals never before seen artifacts and was well worth the risk.

    Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on TH-cam!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...
    WARNING
Abandoned mines and ruined structures have many hazards and can severely injure or even kill you. Do not attempt to copy or re-enact situations or scenarios seen in this video. Stay Out and Stay Alive: • Gly Says... STAY OUT S...

Going back through old videos and catching up, I have to say that this mine looks to be one of the best preserved that I have seen you go into. As said in other comments, given the amount of artifacts at the top of that shaft, I can only imagine what is down at the bottom. Personally I think it would be worth it to get a small group of people together to go in and try to clear and reinforce that passage so that you can finish exploring. The mystery of that shaft would haunt me every day until I was able to get down there.

There is, I believe a way to use the rails as an antenna for your radios, and possibly any metal ducting. The railroad uses (used) the rails as 1/2 of the radio system, from what I remember.
VLF radios would likely work in the mines also. That area you crawled thru was a totally , imo, foolish place to go. Yes, very cool stuff, but I also noticed how dry rotted many of the timbers were. The only safe way to get there would be to move the dangerous rock and rebuild the lagging & stalls.

BBRRRROOOOO, WOW... I haven't seen your last few videos, I've been too busy but DAMN you finally got a REALLY GOOD intro...The behind the scenes morning car ride and conversations were GOLD!!!( THE MORE PEOPLE get to know you outside of mines the more personal they feel with you in a entertainment perspective!! And look forward to the next content!!! Your comfort level in front of a camera is 1000% better than even 4 months ago...MR. M, I'll have to say he's breaking out of his shell and really blossoming!!! He's still a bit apprehensive at times to be talking to a hundred thousand people but I like how he's being more vocal about his thoughts on dangers and reining you back (We want to stay healthy and alive Bli)! Ummm MR. M the more you think all of us behind the camera are just your close friends and family(WHICH WE ARE!!!!) ARE THE only ones watching and just be as natural as a day at home...with possible falling rocks!!!With the B roll, drone, mineralization, vein structure talk, figuring out how they worked the mine...all perfect SO I THINK you are about 56% rdy to pitch a show to discovery channel!! I agree with you work on your grappling and rope work next but, hate to say it but rope work especially ascending is for lighter people!! You can trade that with a crap ton of Cardio, arm and leg strength or a lighter frame. Technique is also a big factor so practice up! OH and don't forget to get a go pro harness for descending shafts so you can climb with both hands and save your good camera and Mic from dust and falling rocks!!!

When you get your ropes in, I bet there are interconnections that will bypass the collapse. There's just too much mine there to not have multiple routes, especially since it's more modern.
Also, that collapse has been there a while, so... how did something get in there to make fresh scat? It could obviously get in and out because you didn't find it dead of dehydration in there. Must have been small enough to slip through the existing hole. Which... I'd have been itching for a folding shovel, lock it down to 90 and lash it to a pipe or a board, and just drag it back and forth to lower the pile while being far back enough to get out of the way if things let go.

16:40 IDK what you normally carry for a handgun, but you really should have something integrally suppressed. not for any cool factor or anything like that, but I think a standard 9mm going off in that mine without ear protection (assuming you had to use it and didn't have time for earplugs) could really damage your hearing and disorient you like a flashbang. that would definitely not be good, especially if a follow up shot was required on something like an angry cornered (and now wounded) boar.
If you want to test it yourself, just find a small exploratory mine and try a few shots under the conditions you expect to need it in a mine. I'm betting that first shot underground surprises you
Look into something like the maxim 9 as an example of what i'm talking about as an integrally suppressed pistol. it looks like it's a scifi blaster, but it keeps the noise down enough where you could keep your wits

You didn't comment on the two hinges on the left side of where you said there was a false floor. I suspect those hinges were to allow the door/floor over a shaft to be easily lifted out of the way to access the lower shaft?

One thing I have learned well in my 53 years is that gravity sucks! The older you get the harder the floor feels when you hit it...

“Gly”: Yes, and from time to time I put it up for sale on my eBay site to help the channel. I found some fantastic specimens over the last year or so but you’ll have to go back through the videos to see what I found. Some pieces sold for over $400 and it really helped out the channel.

Hey gly, when first entering these mines are you worried about oxygen/toxic gases? Or generally is It fairly safe to assume the entrance and first hundred feet is ok?

nice explore guys, Gly you mentioned when searching around the shaft area that there was some freshish pig poop, wonder if you missed something and there is another way into that shaft area?

Can't help but wonder what the skunks are munching on or what their water source is.

Sorry for the lack of knowledge, but why not try to dislodge the safety hazard before hand and see what everything looks like afterwards ?

Brace up those two back and head crushers and digging a bigger entrance he should not have a problem getting backup in there with you.

I’d be back tracking away so fast, from the 2 skunks. Plus, before you even get close to skunks 🦨, you don’t even have to see one ☝️ before you smell-em. There smell 👃 is so strong, you can smell one way way before you see one.
