Another fantastic video Gly! This area is within 150 miles from our back yard and I have flown over the area many times as a private pilot. From the air one can see many remote dirt roads leading to nowhere. Actually many lead to amazing mines! I liked the sped up footage of the short hike up the hill and Mr. M’s footage of you coming back down. Your drone shots really elevate your productions too! There’s a pun ... but the aerial footage is just gorgeous. Keep up the good work! Love your channel.
I absolutely love that you stop and look over the old graffiti. It's super interesting seeing the writing's that people do on the walls from nearly sixty years ago. Definitely one of my favorite parts of your channel :)
I lived in Goldfield Nevada after retiring from the Navy & Nam. 73 to 75. I’ll have to fill you in on my time there through your PO Box#. Great place. Loved it! Love watching your films too!
That first mine had a great example of why the sides of a mine are called the 'ribs' at starting about 8:17. It depends on the type of country rock they had to drill into. Every new set of holes drilled around the outside edge of the new face weren't drilled parallel to the direction of the tunnel, they were drilled at an angle away from the center. Otherwise, the tunnel would get smaller and smaller. Each one of the ridges left is the edge of the former face which looked like the ribs if they continued for any distance appearing like the ribs of a skeleton. And ribs are connected to the 'back'. The fact that you don't usually see evidence of the drill holes speaks to the shock effect dynamite had on the rock. It literally shatters the rock for some distance in all directions. If you find a mine where evidence of the drill holes remains in the ribs it will be a mine driven before roughly 1867 when black powder was replaced by dynamite. Black powder is a low explosive exerting more of a push than the shock of dynamite. This mine made up for the last couple of weeks but I'd like to see what's at the bottom of that deep winze. Are you ever concerned that you will come across the source of a stink that's wearing tennis shoes, sunglasses, and a watch?
Mister M is a riot, and an inspiration, I'm 62 and my suspension would have a hard time with some of the terrain Mister M is trekking through, great job, and the one liners are priceless along with mine adventure. Not just the union but many others in the area. I know he's explored some of them with a buddy and he also hosts other youtubers. Might be worth it to reach out to him as he's not far away.

Don’t know how you guys do things, but if you spend nights out there, the chaparral has long, dead branches that make great fire starters. It burns hot, no smoke, and doesn’t give food any funky tastes. It doesn’t burn to fast either. We’ve spent weeks in the high Mojave desert and have always used those branches to start our campfires, and to cook over. “Gly”: Thanks Sue! I’ve often wondered just how wide the various types of blue copper ore got in some of these mines before they mined it all out. I’m certain there’s more in that area near the tops of the surrounding mountains in places to hard to mine because of the terrain.

Well first of all, that was the fastest 53 minutes of beautifully rendered video I have watched in awhile! And I can't say enough about your intro today! The overhead footage along with your voice and choosing the perfect music, you had me so excited before the you ever got in a mine! If I ever was gonna do a TH-cam Channel I would pay you for my openings! That was the best opening I have ever seen on TH-cam! Also, I live in Palm Springs and I didn't realize how many mines were so close! Almost in my backyard. I have a 4wd Honda CRV, are the roads passable in something without the ground clearance of a Jeep? Thanks so much for what you do. The depressing part is having to wait another week before another masterpiece is available to watch. One last thing, when you first start and you say hi and explain where you are, I miss not seeing a nice warm hi from Mr. M also! Take care and always be safe!
“Gly”: Thanks for the kind words, I’m really happy your enjoying the channel! I wouldn’t recommend taking this road unless your SUV has at least 9 inches of clearance underneath. We drove past a similar SUV on the way in and they were struggling with a flat tire.
Best adventure l have seen. Sir you have a new follower . Very well done . My son is a Geologist l will forward this link . Being South African gold mining is in our blood ..
Hey Gly, I am a son of a Miner. Was born in Massena N.Y. was raised in Tahawus N.Y. a mining town. My father William F. Brainard worked there in the mines. There was a small town with a school. My two older brothers, who are no longer alive went to school there. Now knowing that the place closed down in 2005. All of this came to mind last night. Thought of telling you, all this mining brought it to mind to check it out, not go there.
Love the end sequence Gly ... In the good old UK, we had a comedian, "Benny Hill" who used to end his TV show with a speed'ed up sequence, mostly chased by half naked girls. Maybe you could emulate that if "El Magnifico" could stand it!! LOL!! Great explore too, by the way ☺☺

Does anyone find themselves shouting at the screen, “look up/left/right”. We didn’t get to do a full explore on the first mine. I appreciate that you are trying a new editing style. Personally, the Gly cam gives a first person feel to the whole adventure. The drone shots are great. Loved the Gly, “Mighty Mouse” speed edits. I look forward to a new video every Saturday. Didn’t get to explore much, but it’s quite beautiful out there. Mayhap’s we passed each other at some point. Glad you had a better time than I did!
That first mine was probably still working the last time I was in Southern California mine exploring with my grandfather in the early 1960s. I have a Mavic Mini too, as well as a Mavic Pro... and a few others. I've been flying quadcopters and drones for 7 years and registered with the FAA the 2nd day they had drone pilot registration. I tried the first day but their server was so overwhelmed that it crashed. In case you didn't know; if you monetize your videos it is illegal to use drone footage without having an FAA Part 107 commercial drone license.
“Gly”: I have my attorney friend looking into it. It would seem there definition of “commercial” is a one size fits all statement including anybody who profits from there drone even in the smallest capacity. If this is the case and there’s no grey area wiggle room then I guess I’ll be forced to hop on the band wagon of government over regulation and get one.
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces Don't do it!!! These idiotic laws need compliance to work and when they get that they'll keep on adding regulations. I don't need a license to fly my R/C planes or launch model rockets that can take pictures, why a drone? I remember when fishing licenses were freshwater only, now they want control of the ocean's bounty too. Never had a fishing, hunting OR a drone license and never will, fine me and I won't pay, put me in jail, they'll never do it. PLEASE do not comply.
I've seen a relatively recent TH-cam vid from some other abandoned mine explorers where they documented this very same mine -- and they didn't mention anything about a horrible smell. This tells me that either the source of the odor is a very recent occurrence or that those other TH-camrs have Covid and can't smell anything. :)
First part of your intro we used to visit that mine in southern Calif a lot. That was a very very interesting mine. Its been over 15 years since I was last there, I see the tanks remains are still there. We found lots of chrysocolla there.

Thank you both for another great video. I love watching you guys every Saturday night when we are eating our Curry. Stay safe both :)
Thanks for the trip
First part of your intro we used to visit that mine in southern Calif a lot. That was a very very interesting mine. Its been over 15 years since I was last there, I see the tanks remains are still there. We found lots of chrysocolla there.
That opening sounds like an into to one the greatest action sci-fi movies of all time. Awesome 😄
Video production is coming along leaps n bounds, congrats from Downunder ..just don’t dig too far or you pop up here lol
You guys are a good team. The veins of blue azurite are simple spectacular. Great video and wonderful explaining as you go about what we are looking at. Such as the hanging wall and the vein pointed out by your laser. Thank you for showing your passion. You have a lot more bravado then I going in those places. Better you then me. Thanks again.
Wonder why they left it in there
Editing/production on point as usual!
Beautiful rocks
I was stationed at 29 palms when I was in the marine corps! Loved it there.
Great vide guys. Thank you.
Hey Gly, I love the channel! The moment I watched the first video ( I want to say it was episode 50 something) I got hooked. You and Mr. M stay safe, see you next weekend!
Hey gly, thanks for the great content video after video. I'm from far east washington state and have explored abandoned mines since I was 15. Unfortunately most the mines where I am from have severe ground water pen, I would love to fly down and meet you and explore some mines with you on a weekend. Again thanks for the great videos.
You guys are doing such a great job with the show , everything is on point !! Hopefully I'll get the chance to buy one of the blue chunks some day ...
Gly - do you have some kind of gyro stabilised camera for those shots at the start? amazing quality. Massively impressed - the quality of your channel just keeps getting better and better - thanks for all the work that goes into the footage - really interesting stuff! We get it here in the UK in the late afternoons.
“Gly”: Thank you very much! The shot in the beginning was done with the DJI Mavic Mini drone.
I look forward to your videos every week! 😎
I love my Mavic Mini2, its the best drone for its size and price category
