This was such an incredible game.. used to play this, doom, duke, hexen, quake, unreal, unreal tournament with my dad. Some of the absolute best memories I have from my childhood. Thank you for uploading this. Looks amazing.

This game was definitely a part of my childhood PC game favorites. SNES and Playstation 1 & Nintendo 64 were also the other parts of my life as a young gamer. Despite how good games look these days, the nostalgia will never fade when seeing these classics.

@@DaveChCprolly too late but these games used the home and end keys for look around and movement maybe try to map them differently? Also the ps4 controller has an adapter that adds 2 buttons on the back if that helps
@@DaveChC You may either emulate the XBox controller (with DS4Windows or Steam) or emulate the PS4 controller and modify the controller settings in the game as follows: 1st: Strafing, 2nd: Moving Forward, 3rd: None, 4th: None, 5th: Looking Up/Down, 6th: Turning

Props for the effort to whomever made this, but I think there is nothing wrong with the original graphics. The graphical fidelity doesn't make a game better, the art direction does, and heretic has a great one.
Wow, excelente tu remasterización, me quito el sombrero, estaba a punto de hacer un gameplay de heretic en streaming, y lo hare con tu mod, quede muy satisfecho con lo que hiciste, imagino que la textura que tienes en el video es por la RTX? ya que instale el juego y corre genial, pero no es la misma textura, igual es un gran aporte, muchísimas gracias por remasterizar un clásico de mi infancia.
Xeotroid has remixes available for Heretic, Hexen, and all the classic Doom games. There's also the SC-55 Music Packs which sound very good. And a Hexen Remastered Soundtrack floating around somewhere. I think the last one may have been lost by the internet (last time I checked I wasn't able to download it), but I have it stashed away somewhere :P

What's with the silly trend of making everything shiny in remastered old games? These levels are made to be dirty, you can't have a shiny floor in an old temple!
Me encanta lo bien que has utilizado la palabra "remastered" porque has mantenido el aspecto y gameplay original pero mejorando a nivel visual lo que ya había sin hacer que el juego pierda su verdadera esencia original. Muchos videos de internet tratan la remasterización utilizando mods demasiado invasivos: es decir que cambian demasiado el aspecto de las texturas o sonidos, por no hablar del propio gameplay. Estos mods hacen una reinterpretación propia del material original del juego, que por una parte eso está muy bien, pero que al final, con o sin darse cuenta, terminan alejados de lo que significa el término remasterizar. Pero eso no ha ocurrido en tu caso y te has mantenido fiel a este concepto así que has hecho un trabajo impresionante. Se nota que lo has cuidado al milímetro :O

Bueno, el mérito es de los que han hecho el mod, yo solo los he combinado. Sobre lo de jugarlo en un Mac, no te sabría decir porque nunca he usado uno, siempre he tenido PC con Windows (o MS-DOS en el pasado).
agree, its like the modders hired cleaners and polishers to spend weeks with machines rubbing and waxing the surfaces like a NASA telescope mirror. Most of the surfaces should be filthy, grimy.

It was painful to watch you wasting mace ammo on mummies... ) RAVEN were intending the crossbow to be the main weapon of choice because of doom-based mechanics. Also wizard skulls are easier to be dealt with by the mace. Yet, what can I say: the remaster is gorgeous!
This is kinda like Hexen 0. It’s more of a straight doom clone, the weapons are all mostly kind of analogues for the doom arsenal. But Raven developed both. I’m pretty sure the full title of Hexen is Hexen: beyond heretic.

Hola, gracias por la suscripción y el like. Los mods con GZDoom suelen funcionar simplemente arrastrando la carpeta o archivo (y muchas veces también comprimidos) hasta GZDoom.exe. Sobre la música, puedes usar tanto .pk3 como .wad, para GZDoom suele dar lo mismo. No recuerdo cual usé yo específicamente. Por cierto, no sé si has visto que en la descripción dejé el juego ya preparado (solo hay que añadir el archivo heretic.wad). El PC con el que grabé el vídeo (que no es el que tengo actualmente, mucho más moderno) fue con un i7 4770K, GTX 1080 y 16 GB de RAM.

My favourite before 1st Quake came out. I used to smash Hexen for hours and then came back to the Heretic. Loved Doom but was too square and all H games had better atmosphere.
To much lighting i recall seeing Heretic as a medival magic version of Doom with a bit of color but it had that same dark and grey lighting just like Doom. The rest is perfect this is how a fully remastered version of Heretic will look if Raven actually care about this franchise.
You can buy the original version of Heretic from Steam or GOG. I don't have Steam Deck so I can't tell you if this or the original game are playable on it.
Why everything on those mods, engines and stuff that do stuff "better" always looks like everything is wet, metalic, like glass or crystal, shining like some oil poured everywhere? I never seen a stone floor to shine like that from a fire on a torch!
That's parallax mapping mods. Looks like shit. Like everything is covered with a thick layer of wax. Why 90% of people recording Heretic/Hexen videos use this shit is beyond me. Same goes for all this Hexen mods turning the game into some kind of RPG instead of FPS. Upscaled weapon sprites are really great though.
it gives it a cartoony look in contrast to a realistic ine which i feel preserves the artstyle of the game even though i personally feel a realistic texture in place whould be better
A lack of experience and confidence. When people try to get into graphics programming, they often try to impress by adding glow and normal maps to everything but it just looks lame and amateurish. Mastery is about understanding that less is more and focusing on quality versus quantity

Graven definitely uses some elements but the combat is a bit slower vs heretic/doom. Still looks promising

I like the added lighting, although it's true that sometimes is too much, especially with the particles. But still I think it looks good.

You can buy the original version of Heretic from Steam or GOG. I don't have Steam Deck so I can't tell you if this or the original game are playable on it.

I have an issue, textures are improved on the environment but not on weapons and monsters. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Why everything on those mods, engines and stuff that do stuff "better" always looks like everything is wet, metalic, like glass or crystal, shining like some oil poured everywhere? I never seen a stone floor to shine like that from a fire on a torch!

That's parallax mapping mods. Looks like shit. Like everything is covered with a thick layer of wax. Why 90% of people recording Heretic/Hexen videos use this shit is beyond me. Same goes for all this Hexen mods turning the game into some kind of RPG instead of FPS. Upscaled weapon sprites are really great though.
it gives it a cartoony look in contrast to a realistic ine which i feel preserves the artstyle of the game even though i personally feel a realistic texture in place whould be better
A lack of experience and confidence. When people try to get into graphics programming, they often try to impress by adding glow and normal maps to everything but it just looks lame and amateurish. Mastery is about understanding that less is more and focusing on quality versus quantity
