Great story and I met Landon Turner twice at his home in Indianapolis in 1986 and 87 and we talked about Coach Knight and his time playing basketball 🏀 for Indiana. Always enjoyed seeing him and talking to him when I met him. Great guy him and Coach Knight
An outstanding Inspirational Story and one of human perseverance. Congratulations to Landon Turner on reaching not only his scholastic achievements but also his strength in human endeavor. Kudo's to the great coach Bobby Knight who demonstrates how great coaching and caring can change a young person's life for the better regardless of their circumstances.
I wasn’t a big Knight fan, but I do always look for good in people. The fact that he was one of Landon’s first visitors in the hospital tells you he loves his players more than they knew.
It's been well documented that Coach Knight raised 500,000 dollars including kicking 60,000 dollars of his own money to build Landon Turner a wheelchair accessible home. This is just one example of the countless number of things he did for people at their deepest time of need.
I am not sure how I ended up here but I learned some things today. I never heard of Landon Turner. He had accomplished a lot before his accident and figured out how to make lemonade out of some sour luck. Good for him. Bob Knight seemed to have a good heart but he would hide it behind sarcasm, tough words and actions.
Jonathan Ellis Yea Bob Knight is a good man, a coach I would have loved to play for and honestly needed at that age when I was a knucklehead. If you’re a father why wouldn’t you want your son to play for a man like that? We’ve gotten way too soft as a society, it’s a shame because makes him about to be a monster.
I was just a teenager back in 81 when Indiana won the big dance. That whole tournament Landon Turner just dominated everyone that came up against him. Indiana would have 1 less NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP if it wasn't for Landon Turner!!!
I always heard that when Landon was on hosp the first month Landon was growing a goatee coach knight comes in sees it says indiana Hoosiers do not wear facial hair he kept him on a full scholarship yes coach knight is different
He has a bigger heart than people realize - his 98% graduation rate emphasizes that. Plus, when Ryan White, that young man from Indiana who was diagnosed with AIDS from a blood transfusion was basically shunned by Kokomo, IN, he reached out and befriended Ryan. He was appalled at how White was being treated.
Coach Knight was the very definition of alpha male...strong, determined, and mentally tough...pretty much the opposite of the American Democratic party...
He was a tyrant who motivated by fear. That's not Alpha at all. In fact, it only exposes his fragile ego. The Democrats are a disgrace. Bit using Bobby Knight to illustrate that is bizarre at best.
@@wrldchamps04 about 2:30 ET. Decision to play the title game wasn't made till about 35 minutes before tipoff at 7:45 ET and then only after it was reported Reagan was out of danger
The Scatman Tim could do various sports like swimming and volleyball which gave him a good consistent base. That’s why he played 20 years and the last 7 having an injury that would have ended many players’ career. The Indiana guys didn’t play other sports with the exception of Buckner and Randle El.
What would you expect a coach to do? Tell his player, "You're paralyzed, so you're worthless to the team. We're going to take away your scholarship instead of just wasting one on you"? Knight did what any other Division 1 men's basketball coach would have done. At least Knight didn't put his hand on Turner's throat. Bobby Knight's a jerk who embarrassed the United States by getting arrested at the Pan American games and accused of trying to punch a policeman. Way to go, Bobby!
There's a way of seeing the negative in everything I suppose. You could say his good acts like this don't make up for the bad ones, not sure I agree, but there's an argument to be had, but no not every coach would kick in 60,000 1981 dollars which would have bought you a decent house at the time. I was surprised to look up and see that he was never all that well paid at IU either, his last year there he made under 200k, although he had other side things like a TV show, radio show and other things that brought in side income, but still most coaches at big schools don't need to do anything extra to get wealthy.
The policeman asked for what he got! If you bother to read the story and also I believe that he was the greatest coach ever! Coaches now days are all about the money! Bob cares about his players! Period!

Very impressive spirit and attitude of Landon Turner, nice to see a beautiful side of Coach Knight.

How thoughtful and nice of Bob Knight setting up a fundraiser for Landon. “Landon!! Landon!! Can ya hear me?!” asked Bobby Knight.

Bob Knight seemed to have a good heart but he would hide it behind sarcasm, tough words and actions.
He also had Red Auerbach to use the Celtics last pick of the 1982 NBA draft on Landon!
True story
Truly, was waiting for that fact to be mentioned in the interview.
Wow! Thank you for sharing that information.
Landon Turner is a very nice man, I delivered packages to his house for ups. Always very nice to me.
Glad to hear it. He seems like nothing would get him down after watching this.
This is cool. I love both Coach Knight and Landon. I met Landon a couple years ago while working at Belterra Casino in Southern Indiana.
touching to see how emotional Knight got at the end there talking about Landon. Bob Knight is a good man
Yes that was very touching a side of Bob Knight that u rarely see the man is human after all!!!

I'd upgrade Bob Knight to a Great Man. I grew up a Fighting Illini fan but have always admired Coach Knight. Great Guy!
Coach Knight's the best.
that equals how much money now?@@fml5910

The Turner-Knight story ranks with Stokes-Twyman as never to be forgotten.

Landon Turner is a class act.
One hell of a basketball player.
Landon Turner is a much better man than I am. I don't think I could be as positive.
like him or not, Bobby Knight is a tremendous human being

KoKo Yep! Only people that don’t like Knight are soy boy beta cucks.
KOHF34 Yep! He’s exactly the kinda coach you’d want send your son too.
Turner had his wreck just down the road from where we lived.. Sad thing to have happened to a great young man ..
Larry W Were they going to Holiday World?
@@jimfritz8983 They were coming back Cincinnati
God bless Landon and coach Knight.
Ok all you Knight haters, jump on this!
If Bob Knight ever takes up acting, he would be a shoo-in to play the title role in "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde."
(3:17) When basketball was played by men who were passionate about competing and not by crying girls like today's players.
RIP Bobby Knight.
Coach Knight was the very definition of alpha male...strong, determined, and mentally tough...pretty much the opposite of the American Democratic party...
@S D I smell a beta....
Union members and pro-union Democrats have balls. We are alpha males too. Fuck with the bull and you will get the horns asshole :)
Democratic party is rubbish.
Not everything has to be politics. Sheesh let people enjoy an interesting story

Great story. Love to see the other side. Knight is never portrayed like that anymore.

The general coach knight !

Would he have done this for a player who didn't lead him to a national titile?
Yes. Read A Season On the Brink and it will tell you how loyal and devoted he is to all his former players.
I didn't know Ryan White led them to a National title.....
Thumbs down , u need fkn help !
