this game holds a special place in my heart. it was my first ps2 game given to me by my uncle (a taxi driver) who just died a few years ago of cancer. every time i see this game i think of him. r.i.p uncle pat
I remember 2000, workin at the arcade, spending my breaks sitting in the Crazy Taxi machine, flicking reverse-drive for speed boosts and getting a score of "S". Those were good times =)
Sucks they replaced The Offspring's music from the original release - I'm not even all that much of an Offspring fan, but that soundtrack defined this game's personality. Without it, it just kinda seems like a cheap knock-off.
I'm going to buy Crazy Taxi today. I already bought After Burner Climax and Daytona USA. Sega games are the best. I'm also going to buy Fighting Vipers, Nights into Dreams, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Generations, Sonic the Fighters, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II, The House of the Dead 4, Virtua Fighter 2 & Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown.
I remember watching the original Game Room review for this in 1999. Those were the days of Giant 40 Oz half-hour double game reviews! You guys made me want a Dreamcast so bad.
I loved this game on Dreamcast. The real key is to get the speed boost button combo down and do it constantly throughout the game. Why weren't you using it?
Awesome review :) I have this game on GameCube but I find the arcade one a lot easier and when I play it on the GameCube, I tend to use the controller as a steering wheel :)
Awesome review. I loved this game in the arcade, and yes the Offspring was memorable. I always thought the black guy sounded like the cabbie from Total Recall. Hold on!
Wow I was 10 when I was playing this on Dreamcast, then purchased it on PS2 for myself when I was about 12. Hate to sound old but it sure does bring back the memories, love it.
I remember back in the day playing it on the dream cast. The hair salon near me had it, so I could get a hair cut and play video games! Tried to buy this for PS2 but I returned it since it didn't work (mine doesn't seam to like the blue disks). I don't have a PS3 but I heard it is for GameCube so I am going to try and get it for that. The game cube remote is is more like the Dream cast one anyway.
Did they change the controles at all for the ps3? I remember hatting having to shift into reverse instead of just having one button for drive and another for reverse.
im 14 and can still remember going on holiday when i was like 7 and seeing a crazy taxi arcade game in the lobby, it was like 25p a go, and no kidding i must of spent like £100 just over the 7 days i was there on that game alone :')
I love this game but i'm stuck on the last crazy box challange, you have to race around the whole Arcade map and i keep missing the last checkpoint by about 30 seconds!!!
i played this game years ago when i was ten on arcade machine while my parents were next to me. even to this day they seem to think twice before letting me to borrow their car :D
Remember having this..i Mastered the Burning Technique and knew the whole map..I gained time instead of losing it so i could keep on as much as i would like!
I remember playing this in the arcade. I had a PS2 at home, so I looked for it on that console, then I found out it was rated T. I was too young to get it...
If you don't hear "Ya ya ya ya YA!" at the beginning... IT'S NOT CRAZY TAXI! This makes me so happy that I got a Dreamcast with a COMPLETE copy (box and book) of Crazy Taxi this year. In fact I'm going to go play it now.
Ohhh I remember having this on my ps2 years and years ago but I didn't play it much because the three best ps2 games in history over shadowed them: War of the Monsters, Burnout 3, Star Wars Battlefront 2
"HEY HEY IT'S TO MAKE SOME CRAZY MONEY ON CRAZY TAXI!!" "HERE WE GOOOOOOO" *cue the offspring music* "ARIGHT ARIGHT IT'S TIME TO SEE HOW YOU DID TODAY NOW LET'S TAKE A LOOK!!" "A CLASS B LISCENCE!" "GAME OVER!"
"It's about actually feeling like you're driving a real taxi in a real world environment" ... he says, as the taxi flies over a rooftop.

Only problem is the lack of The Offspring in this port.
The iOS and android version has the offspring
Sucks they replaced The Offspring's music from the original release - I'm not even all that much of an Offspring fan, but that soundtrack defined this game's personality. Without it, it just kinda seems like a cheap knock-off.
I know but the reason it's not there is because Sega's contract with bad religion and offspring ran out so they replaced it 😞
The original soundtrack can be played over the music if you have the music saved to the XMB.
How can they not have The Offspring and Bad Religion songs in this? That's what made the game awesome tbh.

This game is also on several otherplatforms, not just PS3, I reviewed it also.
Game over yeah!
I reviewed this game too ^_^
Great review! Is the Xbox 360 version any different from the PS3 version? Is the DreamCast way better than both?
I remember watching the original Game Room review for this in 1999. Those were the days of Giant 40 Oz half-hour double game reviews! You guys made me want a Dreamcast so bad.
I'm going to get crazy taxi for my ps3 can't wait to play it again good old times. :) love this game.
I loved this game on Dreamcast. The real key is to get the speed boost button combo down and do it constantly throughout the game. Why weren't you using it?
No... Yeah yeah yeah yeah?

HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH NOW?!!!
Awesome review :) I have this game on GameCube but I find the arcade one a lot easier and when I play it on the GameCube, I tend to use the controller as a steering wheel :)
I need to get this game, i remember playing it on my cousin's dreamcast, good times, good times.
"Hey Crazy Taxi! This game was on the Dreamcast. I should make a review of this..."
I love cgr.
I had this for Game Cube it was insane on how I played it everyday
I remember being incredibly impressed by this game back in 99. Everything was awesome. The graphics, music, product placement...it all blew my mind.
Awesome review. I loved this game in the arcade, and yes the Offspring was memorable. I always thought the black guy sounded like the cabbie from Total Recall. Hold on!
i had this on game cube. it was awesome!!
Wow I was 10 when I was playing this on Dreamcast, then purchased it on PS2 for myself when I was about 12. Hate to sound old but it sure does bring back the memories, love it.
I wish they had the original music in the PS3 version. But I go to the arcades to play it all the time. Never gets old!
i LOVE LOVE this game!!
i used to put quarters in the arcade with this... and i also had this on PC
No offspring or bad religion? No buy.
Oh shit you can do that?
IcKY right on.
You are just so awesome.
This game is a must have just so long as the price is low. Lots of fun/re-playability make this game worth having.
This game was part of my childhood. I love it!
When you get paid for getting to the destination, you're paid in gold rings from Sonic.
I love this game but had more fun in crazy box! Why did you leave that part out Mark??
I love the way Mark talks. "Games like Grand. Theft Auto and Test. Drive Unlimited."
i have the gamecube version, fun as hell!
Damn I used to play this a lot back in the day.
I bought the original copy of this game for ps2 for three dollars and 51 cents
alot of great memories with this game
damn i feel like buying the dreamcast version now, thanks for bringing back memories
I have the PC version. Used to play this a lot back in the day.
Why did they redo B. D. Joe's voice? I know it's not just in this PS3 version but the Dreamcast version's not the same as this.
They redid Gus and Gena's voices too
@SanKarma Should I be the one to guess that the only games that you own are all bloody shooters?
This game brings back memories.
Awaiting a crazy taxi 2 review for the DC. Bring it!
The game cube remote is is more like the Dream cast one anyway.
one of my fave dream cast games if not my absolute fave
I love playing this on my Dreamcast. This version, not so much.
Can you add your own custom soundtrack for PS Network version?
was there an arcade cabinet version of this game? i clearly remember playing it
I downloaded the Demo on XBLA and thought it was awful. Loved it back in the day on the DC, a wonderful score attack game that keeps you coming back.
Ahh nostalgia I love this game
YAH YAH YAH YAH YAH! man I miss that song from the original Dreamcast
So many fond memories with this game! I'm gonna buy this on psn. It's only $2.50 today!
I remember this was my first ps2 game. I got in in 2002 when I was 3, my mom didn't want me to play it. But I did, alot!
Did they change the controles at all for the ps3? I remember hatting having to shift into reverse instead of just having one button for drive and another for reverse.
Oh,this games was one my childhood.
im 14 and can still remember going on holiday when i was like 7 and seeing a crazy taxi arcade game in the lobby, it was like 25p a go, and no kidding i must of spent like £100 just over the 7 days i was there on that game alone :')
I have this game for the dreamcast, psp and xbox 360! That's how awesome it is!
i have tha original Dreamcast version
Its funny how your driver is always chilled out
I love this game but i'm stuck on the last crazy box challange, you have to race around the whole Arcade map and i keep missing the last checkpoint by about 30 seconds!!!
@KurosanNitebird i never played Crazy Taxi. So what does "Offspring" mean? :o
Love this game because you can just pick up and play. I used to play the taxi in Grand Theft Auto 3 as a substitute.
I used to play this all the time when it was seen alot in the arcades.
i remember playing this years ago at the arcade. this and Daytona USA. good times. too bad the only arcade in London closed down :(
I played this many years ago at an arcade machine and spent alot of money on it ;) I might buy this off steam.
Where did you get it??
PS STORE?? or is it a bluray disk??
i played this game years ago when i was ten on arcade machine while my parents were next to me. even to this day they seem to think twice before letting me to borrow their car :D
Remember having this..i Mastered the Burning Technique and knew the whole map..I gained time instead of losing it so i could keep on as much as i would like!
Love the Star Trek 4 reference at 3:32.
I remember playing this in the arcade. I had a PS2 at home, so I looked for it on that console, then I found out it was rated T. I was too young to get it...
i used to play this game on my ps2 it had all the stuff before. I used to play the arcade version in walmart everytime we went
I'm so happy they made this game for the Xbox 360 and PS3
Ah Crazy Taxi. One of the greatest games ever.
I still have this on my dreamcast, my PS3 probably wont get the chance to play such a great game because of this fact.
I see that Mark went back in time for a moment there
Any restaurant worth its salt had a crazy taxi cabinet. It didn't even have to work, just looking at it made food taste better.
I played this a bit on the Dreamcast but I never owned one at the time! I bought the PlayStation 2 port of the game instead! it was an awesome game!
i remember playing this game at the arcades.
LOL at the ending. "HEY CRAZY TAXI! THAT WAS ON THE DREAMCAST!"
I played this epic game on PC when I was little
i used to play this on my dreamcast , so mark please review it for the dreamcast too ! thanks
How did you upload this on the 11th???? It's only January 10th.
@ScReWaTtAcKeD road rage!! thats the one yes, great memorys playing that. cheers for reminding me of its name lol.
I have the dreamcast version of this game, and I play it all the time, crazy taxi is bad ass
I once spent $15 in one session of the arcade game at one movie theatre in town. This game is that fun.
I used to always play this game !
I use to play something like this with my cousin on GTA. We stole a taxi and activated the taxi mission, then sank the car in the sea.
Nice review but not a single comment about the game's soundtrack missing it's two key components; Bad Religion and The Offspring.
Does this support custom soundtracks, ala Wipeout HD? That would be one way to get around them not having the original music.
They changed the soundtrack :(
who else for some reason just loves B.D. Joe's demented smile?
If you don't hear "Ya ya ya ya YA!" at the beginning... IT'S NOT CRAZY TAXI! This makes me so happy that I got a Dreamcast with a COMPLETE copy (box and book) of Crazy Taxi this year. In fact I'm going to go play it now.
oh the fun days in the arcade
Fucking love this game. The Dreamcast fucking owned.
@JayMBeeMe
Yes, Crazy Taxi on Dreamcast/PS2/Gamecube did have licensed real life stores.
I remember playing this in the arcade as a kid thinking the graphics were amazing
Ohhh I remember having this on my ps2 years and years ago but I didn't play it much because the three best ps2 games in history over shadowed them: War of the Monsters, Burnout 3, Star Wars Battlefront 2
The original was crazy taxi for seg dreamcast in 2000. I was beast! Ima go play it now ;-D
Games like Call of Duty will never ever come close to the awesomeness of CRAZY TAXI!!!!!!!!
this game was godly when i played it on the dreamcast
Hey, hey! Come on over and have some fun with CRRRRAAAAAZY TAXI!
"HEY HEY IT'S TO MAKE SOME CRAZY MONEY ON CRAZY TAXI!!"
"HERE WE GOOOOOOO" *cue the offspring music*
"ARIGHT ARIGHT IT'S TIME TO SEE HOW YOU DID TODAY NOW LET'S TAKE A LOOK!!" "A CLASS B LISCENCE!" "GAME OVER!"
Looks like fun. Simpson road rage should have been this.
