You want to run the shoe of the saw on your work piece. It will help reduce vibration. You are fighting it too much.

I bought a recip saw recently and was using the same technique as yourself albeit to cut through wood. Thought it was completely useless due to the vibration and having to fight with the saw to make it cut. Then I realised you need to rest the shoe of the saw on your work piece as someone else has noted. Now love the saw and use it regularly.
I think many of us had to find out, great that you did too.
That would be the right way to do it, but if you look closely you'll see that the teeth of this blade don't make it all the way down to the shoe, so that section won't cut and get stuck on the the brick. Poor design really.

This kind of saw would greatly benefit from the cut being scored by a grinder first. Also putting the fence right on the wall

ya gotta learn how to use a sawzall. You need to have the shoe against whatever it is you are cutting and you need to have the blade at an angle to whatever it is you are cutting as well. for an 8" concrete block you would use a 12" blade. ideal angle is going to be close to 45 degrees. when you find the honey spot of an angle you will know it because the saw will start cutting a lot faster and easier.
I like to see how easy/fast it would cut concrete block that isn't filled with concrete.
Was gonna buy a full on demo saw for a little job but I think this will get it done
I think I'll get one of these masonry blades, it adds a lot of versatility to my reciprocating saw.
I think it can make a really nice through cut that is straight too! Let me know what you think after using it a while.
Also check out the scraper blades. They rock when you need them.
You also want to check on the package to make sure that you have optimal RPM which in this case is reciprocations per minute that way you don't burn the blade up they are designed to be at a optimal speed a lot of the times I know people like to just squeeze the trigger and hold on for dear life but if you want to get the most out of any blade anytime you got to make sure you're going the right speed. And don't try to push down onto the tool It will cause more friction and burn the blades up even faster a little pressure is fine but that's just to help guide it more or less.

Why aren't you using water to help you cut and clear out the cut out as you go? I guarantee you will have a hell of an easier time. Also, a battery operated sawzall really?

Battery would probably be fine I it was better unit like flexvolt or milwaukee fuel
@@andrewk8636 I agree. This machine does many jobs well but it lacks the power, is too small and too light for this job. Any battery operated machine this size is, no matter what brand. For this job, either use a corded machine or a battery powered machine that delivers (more than) corded power, where only DeWalt 60v Max and Milwaukee Sawzall M18 Fuel come to mind.
@@HansOvervoorde yep but let's face it, the biggest problem was operator error. Not having the shoe pressed against the concrete is wasting battery, and your own energy too. It's not the right saw but it'd probably still be a night and day difference if it was used properly seated against the workpiece
@@andrewk8636 Good point! That makes a huge difference in effectiveness as than least energy is channeled back to the machine and its operator causing hurt.
Proabably works well on nongrouted tile.

Have you considered using the tool properly so your arms don't feel like they're falling off?
I'm sure that is a good blade. I, personally would have put a plumb line down each side of the block, then drop cut it with a skill saw, cut the center with the saws-all.
My first thought was that it was a DeWalt and the battery was going to die before you were half way through the first cut. Then I laughed pretty hard when you stopped to check the battery. I'll trust a corded DeWalt but never a battery powered one.
I had way better results with this exact Spyder blade: I had a helper constantly keeping the blade wet with a spray bottle. It cuts faster, reduces dust, and the blade lasts longer. Not soaked mind you. If theres too much water it starts to cut slower.
Yup you should try it with a super Sawzall, I also think orbital mode would be ideal here since it would help keep your teethe free
It may work a whole lot better if you use the sawzall the proper way . The shoe is meant to be against the material

Yeah you got to keep that shoe pressed against your materials you're cutting or else you're just wasting time and energy. It allows the stawzall to literally move with the blade way too much. If the saw is stationary the blades are what is moving which will be doing all the cutting You have to let the tool do the work. Like somebody said one time to me before if you're using a tool and it's not easier or faster you're either not using the tool properly or you're using the wrong tool. They are literally designed to make things faster and more simple and a lot easier and if that is not what is going on in use then those are the only two options you got it's the wrong tool or operator error.
It takes ages to cut through one block... angle grinder is 30 times faster. I get the idea coz the cut is fine but not worth the time and arms
I agree an angle grinder cuts quickly through block too. The fine cut and low dust is really nice. I still haven't had a chance to try my new 60V saw with that blade. That might work a little faster.

Your using your sawzall wrong. I’d use Milwaukee instead but I use Milwaukee for everything. I did metal fabrication for 10 years. I to started like you with that sawzall but you have to let it do the work.

Definitely not. I was sore the next day. The compact XR is known to have more vibration than fully size Reciprocating saws. I have a 60V full size now from Dewalt that I want to try with this blade. I was able to at least cut throw with minimal dust and keep a pretty straight line.

Dude, first get a real Sawzall with a power cord on it. Battery power tools aren't made for the job you're attempting to do.
I've got a Dewalt Flexvolt Sawzall now. It's a 60V tool and it is a beast.
david schwartz, you cant electrocute yourself with a cordless tool. so i avoid corded tools most of the time. technique made this a hard job. dribbling water on the groove would also be a good idea.
