1997 James Cameron releases the highest-grossing film of the decade, Titanic, filming aboard the RMS Olympic, Titanic's sister ship

No they didn’t. The RMS Olympic was scrapped in 1934 due to the white star line (the company that owned the Olympic and Titanic) merging with the Cunard line because of the Great Depression and lack of money to keep the ships clean or build new ones. In the movie Titanic they used an almost life sized model. But it was only half of the ship. They only built one side and used a mirror to create the other side. All the rooms that you saw were built in a studio.

Passenger ships of that era generally lasted around 30 years unless they underwent MAJOR refits. If Olympic hadn't been scrapped, she'd be the equivalent of a 225 year old person.

Really an Old Reliable. No matter how much time passed, how many ships came and went by. She's still there.
And she's always avaliable to help and teach to the new generations how to do the job.
And now, she sits as a museum in the same pier she docked so many times in her life, she's at home.

    A few bones to pick:
    1. She's putting out waaaay too much smoke. Remember that she was converted to Oil in 1917.
    2. At 4:20, she is showing only one lifeboat per davit, but she was equipped with four per davit in 1912, the month after You-Know-What happened.
A good presentation. I can't believe the Argies would not try to sink it!

Great video. I have always pondered this thought myself. In fact, in my AU of the RWS, one of my human characters starts a historical society on Sodor, and their first move was saving the Olympic, and to this day, she operates as a cruise ship with modern refinements, but she is still powered by her oil-fired boilers, and still has her original three propeller design. Other ships in the collection are the QE2, Queeny Mary, and the new builds: Titanic 2 and the Oceanic.

Nice thought but these ships weren't designed to last 100 yrs. Aquitania is a good example: scheduled to be scrapped in the late 30s, she was saved by WWII and made a troopship. She survived the war but by 1949 was literally falling apart, couldn't get a certificate to sail and was scrapped.
The same fate, I'm afraid, would have befallen the Oly.

Depends on what the ideas they had for it were.
If its war record was just as good or even better than its World War Two record there's a fair chance it would have become quite popular. Maybe popularity could aid in a preservation?

I would think Olympic's interiors would've been restored to her pre-WWI style (non-green) because she starred in James Cameron's film as her sister (studio paid for her complete restoration to look just like Titanic, including some 'modifications' such as the A Deck promenade and brief removal of the post-Titanic lifeboats). I also think once the Titanic Quarter was started she would've been transferred to Belfast as one of the museum centerpieces alongside Nomadic.

She would’ve been the biggest tourist attraction and would’ve been even used for James Cameron’s movie Titanic, especially it would’ve even helped the titanic honor and glory developers to digitally develop Titanic’s interior which the game would’ve been released in 2016 since the Olympic had the exact same interior as Titanic did.

If Olympic wasn't scrapped and the Great Depression didn't happen:
Case 1: She would be used as a troop transport for WWII alongside RMS Aquitania.
Case 2: She would be used as a Hospital Ship like her younger sister RMS Britannic.
Case 3: She would get modernized and would sail alongside RMS Queen Mary as Cunard and White Star Line merged into Cunard-White Star
Case 4: She would outlast any 1900s era ocean liner as most of them would have been either scrapped or sunk
Case 5: Since Olympic is still in active duty, the plan for a massive ship on WSL's part would not come to fruition (RMMV Oceanic)
Case 6: Olympic would, in turn, become the oldest ocean liner in history and oldest White Star Ship alongside SS Nomadic as the oldest tender ship.

      @claytonpaddison6721 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

I suspect Case 1 would be most likely. Saved by the outbreak of War in Europe in '39. Suffered and survived a U-boat attack in 1941 and 1943, rammed and sank her second U-Boat in 1944. Maybe a bit of service after the war, retired in the late 40's, possibly as late as 1950. In limbo after 1952, she is saved from the breakers by a huge public campaign to preserve her during production of "A Night to Remember". Is used as a Set piece during filming and becomes a permanent museum in 1959. Saved again from hull deterioration in 1978 and used in the film "Raise the Titanic" in 1980. Moved to her new home in Belfast in 1984. Restoration work done in 1987 and a major restoration to restore her as close to her 1912-1913 appearance in 1994-'96 and used in the production of "Titanic" in 1997 (The Last time she is underway on the ocean). Moved to the Thompson Graving Dock in 2011 as its new permanent home at the Titanic Museum in Belfast.
