    Update: Backtested January and February, excluding holidays. Trade session was made between 0630-0900 PST with a maximum of 2 losses per day. 1 ES contract per trade, set target profit is 2 points and stoploss is 1 tick above/below the signal bar. I didn't factor in the commissions since it varies by broker. The setups were also tweaked a little bit.
    It's easy to look for the setups in hindsight, therefore take this stats with a grain of salt and results will be different on live sessions.

      Amazing statistics. I like your idea of stopping after two losses. That way, if you are in a choppy low range market, you don't continue to take the paper cuts all day long.

    • @richardgayton1337
      @richardgayton1337 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Sounds like you found a way to trade successfully with a smaller stop. Do you have a feel for the average stop loss you used? The cool thing about using ES instead of NQ, is the commission per contract is the same for both, but ES is $50 a point, NQ $20 so more bang for the commission buck.

      @@richardgayton1337 I haven't trade it yet on sim, so I'm not sure how the results will be. As I mentioned, I marked all the setups from the backtest. But obviously wouldnt do that on live knowing I will be very selected with the entries, specially if the signal bar has big risk, then I wouldn't take it.

      I am obsessed with Hoagies (great name). March 10, 2022 ES traded Hoagies all day. 10 EMA, 1 minute, 3 pt Stop. 5 pt Target for ATR 5, 4 T for ATR 4, and 3 T for ATR 3. I took every Hoagie trade even trying 3 times on a few Hoagies looking for breaks over one point. Not profitable. Also no profit in taking breaks against the 10 EMA angle. If its slanting down, only take shorts and vis versa. Taking only trend conforming breaks and only 1 attempt, I got 10 Winners 1 loser. 33 total winning points minus 3pts losing=30 pts x $50. In psychology we call this a one subject experiment with limited applicability, but a nice working hypothesis to test.

      @@quanttradeedge2514 I'll try to back test January and see if the results will be similar. Spent a lot of time which target is profitable, $150, $200, $250, $300 and $100 is the most profitable target and has the highest win rate. But I almost took every single set up.
      $200 came second with about 70%wr, but around $1500 less in net profit. Although, entries were only made with good signal bar. Results might be different with less filters.
      Stop loss depend on the signal bar size (between 2-4 points SL) and limit order entries after quarter(25%) retracement off the signal bar.

    How do you decide how much to let it run? When to take profit? Trail a stop? That is a key part to making this strategy work.

    • @quanttradeedge2514
      @quanttradeedge2514  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You set a fixed target based on ATR. You trail stops behind the previous bar. If you are letting some thing run, it is because you have a higher timeframe view and were using this scalp method as the entry for it.

  • @TheOptionsGod
    @TheOptionsGod 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Hi QTE, thank you for taking the time to create this video, however there are a few things that are still unclear to me. I will use your short scalp setup as an example (timestamp 0:09).
    Firstly, I assume that the "setup bar" is the first candle (green) in your short scalp structure, is this correct?
    If this is true, I will label the setup bar as "C1", the red candle as "C2" and the blue candle as "C3".
    I identify a "C1" on my chart and look to confirm a higher high and higher low on a consecutive "C2".
    "C2" has a higher high and higher low with respect to "C1", so I analyze a consecutive "C3".
    *Question 1:*
    Do I analyze "C3" with respect to "C2" or "C1"?
    In your first example, if I analyze "C3" with respect to "C1", "C3" would necessarily need to be a red (down) candle in order to satisfy the Close(C3) < Open(C1) criteria. However, I realize that "C3" need not always be a red (down candle) with respect to "C1", as it is possible for a green (up candle) "C3" to have a closing price below "C1"'s opening price, it would just be positioned lower on the chart, below "C1"s opening price.
    Again, in your first example, If I analyze "C3" with respect to "C2" (instead of "C1"), "C3" could be either a red (down candle) or green (up candle), so long as its closing price is below the opening price of "C2" in order to satisfy the Close(C3) < Open(C2) criteria. Do I understand this correctly?
    I suspect the reason why you used the color blue for your "C3" candle was to illustrate the flexibility of the type of candle (green or red) that "C3" could be, but in your first example, "C3" would _necessarily_ have to be a red candle _if I were to analyze it with respect to "C1"_ and this is where I need the clarification.
    *Question 2:*
    Once the criteria is met for a long or short, I assume the ideal entry point to be the opening price of the _fourth_ consecutive candle, is this correct?
    *Question 3:*
    When you switch to the 1 minute chart (time stamp 1:34), you display several arrow signals that indicate long entries above the 10 EMA. Which candlestick do these arrow signals point to? Do they point to any of the long scalp structure candles ("C1", "C2", "C3")? Or do they point to the _recommended_ entry point candle ("C4")?
    Thank you.

    • @quanttradeedge2514
      @quanttradeedge2514  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The setup bar is C2 as you've described it.
      Use a buystop above the setup candle (for long scalp) to enter.
      The arrows point to the setup bar.

    Being able to do this manually is the problem, its very hard to get into these trades manually. I tried this today (4/12/24) from open to 11am, got 3 winners, all were 6 pointers cause ATR was near or at 12 at the time of the trades. I set up OCO orders for 2pt profit target all the way to 12 pt profit target and simply swapped to the relevant one with each attempt.
    I have a question as to when is the trade considered invalidated; say we get a short setup below EMA, we enter 1 tick below the low of the signal bar, but price does not move through it and instead reverses, going past the high of that candle. is that considered a failed signal bar and we discontinue the order? thanks for your time
    Also, i understand the stop..but saying each of these moves had 30+ points in them is confusing because isnt the profit target much lower? so you would move the stop up each minute, but does that mean youre also moving the profit target instead of waiting for it to get to 1/2 ATR?

      ES typically has a lower ATR than NQ. Recently it has had nice big ranges. The key is just to test this over a long enough period of time. And if these statistics work out well over 67% - Then you just have to mechanically take each one and know that you'll come out ahead over time.

    Paper traded this on Ninjatader with this set up on ES Feb 23 (I don't trade NQ yet), but it took a while to spot the set up in real time and I flubbed my first entries. So I backtested this evening from 6:30 am PST to 4:30 pm PST on one minute chart, 4pt T 8 pt stop. 14 Winners at 4pts each, 2 losers 8pts of stop each. Total potential trading just T and S:
    40 pts at $50 a point. If you were able to expertly manage the trade, the profit was double that. Of course real trading, paper trading and backtesting are all different things and with each increase in reality, results degrade. Still wonderful set up. Many thanks.

      A hoagie happens when you have one relatively large bar, and then more than one more bar stays inside the range of that original large bar. It is like an extended version of an inside bar.
      As it pertains to gann bar counting, I do not count the wiggles that happen inside of a hoagie.

    great vid, question though... in your first diagram (for long example) you make it seem like the 3rd candle BODY needs to close above the previous candle high, but then in several of the long examples on the chart, the middle candle had a long upper wick so the next entry candle the body closed above the previous body but not completely above the previous wick high. Does the body need to close above the wick to be considered a proper trigger? or is it enough for the second green candle to just close slightly above the previous green candle close? And do you wait for the second green candle to close first or just as soon as it crosses up?

      If it's an inside candle, then you can take it on the next candle. Look over a lot of charts and gather statistics for yourself as to winning percentages when there's an inside bar versus not. The key to any strategy is doing the work to build the confidence in it so that you can stick through it during the lean times.

    Alright a couple questions:
    1. going back to your diagram and comparing to the real cart. The first candle can be any color. But the middle candle needs to be bullish for a buy and bearish for a sell? Seems like you say the bar color matters but the indicator doesn't seem to care if the 1st candle is red or green.
    2. I am looking at your arrows and I slightly confused. Your setups are only if they break above the arrow candle on the NEXT candle correct?

    • @quanttradeedge2514
      @quanttradeedge2514  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I usually trade the this scalp strategy on the fast 500-tick chart, where the ATR often drops below 10 points, but still provides plenty of opportunities. Is it still valid to trade as long as the 1-minute chart's ATR remains above 10? Is that enough alone to signal a favorable market environment? Or should I find a new ATR minimum for the 500-tick chart/maybe move up to the 1000-tick?

    • @quanttradeedge2514

    Hi I'm not sure if you are monitoring this thread anymore, but if you are, this is Richard and I have been studying your Hoagies and Scallops and trading them for several months but have not understand how you move your stops. From watching your scalloping videos I see you are setting the initial stop with order entry depending on the size of the signal bar or is it just based on the ATR at that moment? e.g. ATR 15 you set stop at 15? If the signal triggers and goes in your direction, when do you move the stop. Do you wait for another entire minute to elapse and lets say you are in up trend, move it to the top of the signal bar or wait for the next bar to close and place it at the top of that bar? Many thanks for your ideas and videos. Is there another platform you can be followed on?

    • @quanttradeedge2514
      @quanttradeedge2514  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would typically wait for each minutes bar to complete and then move the stop behind the previous bar. Sometimes other bar count criteria come into play. For example if it's only the first violation, I may stay with it but once we know that a 2e has formed, you want to be quick to exit on a violation of the previous bar.

    • @quanttradeedge2514

      I typically only use stop market. If you are getting significant slippage in ES, that is a sign of a disorderly market and perhaps a time to sit out. Our assumptions of risk are based on our stop - If the market is so disorderly that they stop on some thing as liquid as ES is significant- it's time to take your marbles and wait to play another day. Jmho. Remember, we have the advantage of not having to engage every day. It's better to engage only when your risk is measurable and the odds are squarely in your favor.

    Do you ever use fair value gaps in your trading? Also, I know you said you like to use this strat in the first two hours of the day. What is your go to strat for ES or NQ in the afternoon when ATR is lower?

      When I was more involved, I did more with gaps. When the ATR is low, I'm reminded of Mr. Miyagi's advice "Best block Daniel son - no be there".

      @@quanttradeedge2514 I know you get many requests for videos and I think you have slowed down making them due to other obligations. If you ever get a chance to show your favorite use of gaps in a video, I'd love to see it. I just discovered them and really interesting how well price respects them in trending markets. I haven't seen Karate Kid in the longest time...ha! If I am interpreting Miyagi's words correctly, "the best trading strategy is to not trade low ATR at all"

    Is the 10ema the best one to use and not the 9ema as I see it everyone uses the 9ema?

    I'm usually pretty good at understanding these things, but here, looking at your arrows highlighting the candles, are assuming an entry right at the top or bottom of the candle? Feeling dumb asking this.

    • @quanttradeedge2514
      @quanttradeedge2514  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For a long trade, it is a buy stop at the top of the candle. All of the trades are done with a stop entry and there is a stop at a target that are automatically triggered when the trade enters.

      It is not. One of our members tried to program it for TV.

      @@quanttradeedge2514 Thanks. Do you still trade this strategy and do you have a discord channel?

      I tend to stay away from one minute charts. And I'm not trading much right now. I do not currently have a discord channel.

    can you show a result of a backtest of 100 trades? how much percentage can we earn?

    • @quanttradeedge2514
      @quanttradeedge2514  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Coming back and manually testing 100 samples would be a great way to build confidence in a system and give you immense insight into variations and nuances. With regards to percentage earnings, that completely depends on your money management (position sizing) algorithm.
