I have always viewed this song differently, always. To me, it's not a song of a man whose heart HAS been broken - it's a song of a man who realizes he is falling over the edge into love. ("No, I don't want to fall in love with you"). It's the song of a man helpless against love. (Terribly romantic, FWIW.)
